Fallout: New Vegas Guide

Simple FNV bug-fix / performance guide for Fallout: New Vegas

Simple FNV bug-fix / performance guide

Overview

A basic guide which aims to fix the remaining issues with this game while improving performance and not changing anything of the game itself. This includes:• YUP, aka. “Yukichigai Unofficial Patch” (a pure and comprehensive bug-fix compilation that also reduces CTDs or “crash-to-desktop errors”). • Extra Fixes (weren’t included in the YUP patch).• FNV 4GB Patcher (this file allows for you to play the game on Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update and also allows for the game to use more than 2 GB of ram, if needed).• New Vegas Script Extender (allows for the use of the two tools mentioned below). • New Vegas Stutter Remover (simply fixes stuttering in-game). • New Vegas Anti-Crash (reduces a ton of crashes).- The 4 GB launcher is not needed for 32 bit PCs… so SKIP step 6 in this guide. If you’re on Windows 10 though, feel free to try step 6.- These are all handpicked, essential fixes for having the best Fallout: New Vegas experience without having to go through complicated modding or lots of fixes.* Credit goes to Steam user Roy Batty ( http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197999305406/ ) for offering many tips that helped improve this guide and for also creating the FNV 4GB Patcher.

The method

Firstly, install Fallout: New Vegas like any other Steam game. Once the game is fully downloaded and you feel you’d like to use these fixes, follow these steps:

1. Download YUP – Yukichigai Unofficial Patch:
[link]
Click on the “Files” tab and download:
“YUP – Base Game and All DLC”
OR
“YUP – Individual ESMs” (IF you do not have any or all of the DLC for this game. Later on, you will need to download and use a program called, Nexus Mod Manager, to only enable the ESM files which correspond to portions of the game you own.)

2. From the YUP download, copy and paste the 6 items into:
C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonFallout New VegasData
Then launch the game on Steam, click “Data Files” on the launcher and tick the box for “YUP – Base Game + All DLC.esm” AND “YUP – NPC Fixes (Base Game + All DLC).esp”.

3. After this, download “Lil’ Dino-Dee Lite Motel Room Tweaks” (version 1.1) at:
[link]
From the download, copy and paste the .esp file into:
C:Program Files (x86)steamsteamappscommonFallout New VegasData
Then tick the box for it in “Data Files”, using the main Fallout: New Vegas launcher.

4. Then download “Reload Speed Game Start Fix” at:
[link]
From the download, copy and paste the .esp file into:
C:Program Files (x86)steamsteamappscommonFallout New VegasData
Then tick the box for it in “Data Files”, using the main Fallout: New Vegas launcher.

NOTE: Make sure to also check your graphics settings and “Data Files” in the launcher
while you’re here… as you WON’T be able to make any changes after a later step!!

5. Next, download i. “FNV 4GB Patcher”, ii. “Script Extender”, iii. “Stutter Remover” AND iv. “NVAC”. Download links:
i. [link] (“Files” tab – download “FNV 4GB Patch”)
ii. [link] (download the stable version – should be towards the top of the page)
iii. [link] (“Files” tab – download “NVSR_4-1-36”)
iv. [link] (“Files” tab – download “NVAC – New Vegas Anti Crash”)

6. (Unless you’re on Windows 10… SKIP this step if your PC is 32 bit, as this is only meant to allow Fallout: New Vegas to use more than 2 GB of ram).
Unzip the 4 GB launcher download and copy and paste the “FalloutNVpatch.exe” file into your Steam game’s main folder. Next all you need to do is run this file and wait for the patching process to complete (you might need to run the file as admin.). Once that’s done, you can then run the game from the game’s launcher file or Steam.

Doing all of this allows you to keep the Steam overlay with this new .exe file as well as prevent crashes. It also allows you to play this game on Windows 10 with the Windows Anniversary update.

7. Simply copy all files from the Script Extender download, to the Steam game’s main folder.

8. Copy and paste the “Data” folder, from the Stutter Remover download, into your Steam game’s main folder. Then go inside the Data folder in your Steam game’s main folder and into the “NVSE” subfolder. After that, go inside the “Plugins” subfolder and open the “sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.ini” file. With this file open, locate the line “bHookLightCriticalSections = 1” and change it to “bHookLightCriticalSections = 0”. From there, just save the file. With this line unchanged the game hangs for 2-3 seconds quite a bit.

9. Lastly copy and paste the “NVSE” folder from the NVAC download into:
C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonFallout New VegasData

Further Reducing Crashes

If you still experience crashing after following everything in this guide, try these suggestions:

IN GAME LAUNCHER:
Disable “Transparency Multisampling”

IN-GAME:
Pause Menu –> Settings –> Gameplay –> Disable every ‘Save on xxxx…’ feature.

NOTE: This will disable the ‘autosave’ feature but this will improve load times, performance, and prevent your save games becoming possibly corrupt. Be sure to save regularly though.
