In this guide, I will hopefully be able to explore multiple aspects of the game in detail for your viewing pleasure, including but not limited to:- Character Creation- Main Quests- Side Quests- Obtaining Gear- Different Playstyles- Much Much MoreNow, without any further explanation, let’s hop right into it.

So, you decided to boot up Skyrim. Whether it be for the first time with a pair of fresh eyes or just another playthough to pass the time, it doesn’t matter. The same question always winds up arising.

“Who are you?”

Now, before you begin shape-shifting in front of this poor Imperial, I think it’d be helpful to actually understand what you’re getting yourself into.

Argonian

ARGONIAN

“This reptilian race, well-suited for the treacherous swamps of their Black Marsh homeland, has developed a natural resistance to diseases and the ability to breathe underwater. They can call upon the Histskin to regenerate health very quickly.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Histskin: Invoke the power of the Hist to recover health ten times faster for 60 seconds. Can only be used once per day.
  • Resist Disease: Your Argonian blood is 50% resistant to disease.
  • Waterbreathing: Your Argonian Lungs can breathe underwater.

SKILL BONUSES

  • +10 Lockpicking
  • +5 Light Armor
  • +5 Alteration
  • +5 Pickpocket
  • +5 Restoration
  • +5 Sneak

Breton

BRETON

“In addition to their quick and perceptive grasp of spellcraft, even the humblest of High Rock’s Bretons can boast a resistance to magic. Bretons can call upon the Dragonskin power to absorb spells.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Dragonskin: Absorb 50% of magicka from hostile spells for 60 seconds.
  • Magic Resistance: Breton blood grants a 25% resistance to magic.

  • +10 Conjuration
  • +5 Alchemy
  • +5 Alteration
  • +5 Illusion
  • +5 Restoration
  • +5 Speech

Dark Elf

DARK ELF

“Also known as ‘Dunmer’ in their homeland of Morrowind, dark elves are noted for their stealth and magic skills. They are naturally resistant to fire and can call upon their Ancestor’s Wrath to surround themselves in fire.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Ancestor’s Wrath: Once per day for 60 seconds, opponents that get too close take 8 points per second of fire damage.
  • Resist Fire: Your Dunmer blood gives you 50% resistance to fire.

SKILL BONUSES

  • +10 Destruction
  • +5 Alchemy
  • +5 Alteration
  • +5 Illusion
  • +5 Light Armor
  • +5 Sneak

High Elf

HIGH ELF

“Also known as ‘Altmer’ in their homeland of Summerset Isle, the high elves are the most strongly gifted in the arcane arts of all the races. They can call upon their Highborn power to regenerate Magicka quickly.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Highborn: Regenerate magicka faster for 60 seconds, once a day.
  • Fortify Magicka: Passive increase in magicka by 50 points.

  • +10 Illusion
  • +5 Alteration
  • +5 Conjuration
  • +5 Destruction
  • +5 Enchanting
  • +5 Restoration

Imperial

IMPERIAL

“Natives of Cyrodiil, they have proved to be shrewd diplomats and traders. They are skilled with combat and magic. Anywhere gold coins might be found, Imperials always seem to find a few more. They can call upon the Voice of the Emperor to calm an enemy.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Voice of the Emperor: Calms nearby humanoids for 60 seconds.
  • Imperial Luck: Anywhere gold coins might be found, Imperials always seem to find a few more.

SKILL BONUSES

  • +10 Restoration
  • +5 Block
  • +5 Destruction
  • +5 Enchanting
  • +5 Heavy Armor
  • +5 One-Handed

Khajit

KHAJIT

“Hailing from the province of Elsweyr, they are intelligent, quick, and agile. They make excellent thieves due to their natural stealthiness. All Khajiit can see in the dark at will and have unarmed claw attacks.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Night Eye: See in the dark for 60 seconds for an unlimited number of times per day.
  • Claws: Unarmed attacks do 12 points of damage.

  • +10 Sneak
  • +5 Alchemy
  • +5 One-Handed
  • +5 Archery
  • +5 Lockpicking
  • +5 Pickpocket

Nord

NORD

“Citizens of Skyrim, they are a tall and fair-haired people. Strong and hardy, Nords are famous for their resistance to cold and their talent as warriors. They can use a Battlecry to make opponents flee.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Battle Cry: Target flees for 30 seconds.
  • Resist Frost: Your Nord blood gives you 50% resistance to frost.

SKILL BONUSES

  • +10 Two-Handed
  • +5 Block
  • +5 Light Armor
  • +5 One-Handed
  • +5 Smithing
  • +5 Speech

Orc

ORC

“Orcs, also known as Orsimer, are natives of Orsinium, a small mountain kingdom between Hammerfell and Skyrim. It has been sacked and rebuilt many times.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Berserker Rage: Take half damage and do double damage for 60 seconds.

  • +10 Heavy Armor
  • +5 Block
  • +5 Enchanting
  • +5 One-Handed
  • +5 Smithing
  • +5 Two-Handed

Redguard

REDGUARD

“The most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel, the Redguards of Hammerfell have a hardy constitution and a natural resistance to poison. They can call upon an Adrenaline Rush in combat.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

  • Adrenaline Rush: Stamina regenerates 10x faster for 60 seconds.
  • Resist Poison: Your Redguard blood gives you 50% resistance to poison.

  • +10 One-Handed
  • +5 Alteration
  • +5 Archery
  • +5 Block
  • +5 Destruction
