Overview
My point of view on how to play on Sniper.
Introduction/meta gameplay
Sniper is skill-demanding hero. It’s really quite hard to make good plays on him. He is armed with one of two rifles that are different in mechanics, but intended for one – one-shot kills at long distance. Sniper requires good aim and fast reaction on what happening around you in map. Playing as sniper, you can’t just go into the thick of things to try to kill everyone. Sniper likes sneaky plays 😉
For example, you can never get involved into “men” fights, but last hit every low HP unit and earn top score because of easy points for multikills.
Weapons
Sniper has two rifles: Sniper rifle and Beam rifle
SNIPER RIFLE
This rifle has 50 damage per shot(almost a half the health of other heroes) with stable 1 second shot cooldown.
BEAM RIFLE
This is a charge weapon, so you need to charge it before shoot. It gives more variability, because you have no need waiting a second to reload(as with sniper rifle) and shoot faster if the situation requires it. It is charging by holding an attack button(mouse – LMB). The more you’ve charged the more powerful shot you have. Btw, has ~ the same damage as first rifle.
Regardless of all positive sides of beam rifle, I prefer playing with sniper rifle, but i can’t even explain this, I just get used to it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Ability
Shadow walk gives invisibility to sniper. A shot from shadow walk will do more damage. It can be used for both: escape and attack. It also good to use with boost on damage to make one-shot kill.
Tip: you can capture generators while invisible.
Perks
Time to move on to Sniper’s perks.
- Almost a teleport – Sniper moves faster while invisible.
- Bounty – chance to get invisible entering the room. Active only in treggered room.
- Oh, camping – Sniper accumulates power while not shooting. After 5 seconds break, his next shot deals additional damage.
- Next time – whenever Sniper itself casts the super ability, it gains a chance to reduce its cooldown.
- Lucky guy – one-shot kill chance when double damage boost is picked up.
- Sharpshooter – Sniper’s presence on the battlefield increases the attack speed of himself.
Currently, I’m using almost a teleport in a pair with sharpshooter, because of my aggressive playstyle so I need to rotate fast through map and be ready to shoot asap.
I believe next time and lucky guy also a good pair. Being always invisible will piss off your opponents 😛
v.v. oh, camping and sharpshooter not a best matchup.
Whatever, you decide what will emphasize your playstyle better.
Hero matchups
Bad against Pyro and Rocketeer because additional HP, resist, armor, so you need to shoot accurately a lot of times to kill one of them and if you missed once consider that you are already dead.
Good against Gunner and Laser as these classes aren’t so fat. Two accurate shots will be enough.
Works well with Pyro, Rocketeer. Pyro can tank all damage and attention, so you will have enough time and space to make a huge damage to your opponents. Rocketeer can give you additional armor so you will be more enduring.
Summing up
Although Sniper is a complicated and skill-demanding hero, but it’s a lot of fun to play. High skill = high reward.
