Overview
A basic guide to sniping and the different sniper rifles in CS:S
Intro
Hello, my name is Sinon, i’m currently a UGC sniper in tf2 and I sometimes go on CS:S to practice.
In this guide, I will be showing basic sniping techniques i’ve picked up in CS:S. I will also be showing you which technique goes with each sniper rifle. I apologize for any grammar mistakes throughout this, english isn’t my first language. Now before you begin questioning me on the UGC thing, no I will not skrim your team, no I will not add you to my friends list so you can trade with me, and no this isn’t my main account.
The different sniper rifles
This part is going to be the basic idea of each gun, it’s accuracy, the damage, and the reliability
Scout
Let’s start with the Scout. The Scout is not seen often in CS:S due to the reliability of the other sniper rifles. To kill a enemy with this rifle, you must shoot twice into the body or once into the head. Unlike other sniper rifles, this one doesn’t impede your movement and is relativly accurate while moving. Although it is a bolt action, meaning the time before each shot is dreadful. This gun is meant to be used like it’s name, you move to a location, fire, and relocate before the enemy fires back. With this said, close quaters is dreadful for anyone who can’t use this weapon effective enough. Although, a person who is skilled enough with it can absolutely destroy people close range if they get a accurate shot off first.
SG-1
The terrorist’s auto sniper. High rate of fire, around the same damage as the scout, impedes movement as if carrying a heavy assault rifle. All-in-all it can be pretty reliable and is great at many ranges. Not much to it, fire one or two shot, wait, rinse and repeat. The reason this is more reliable then the scout is the fact it can be used close range as if it is an assault rifle. Long range though, it’s not as reliable, due to the fact you must wait between shots giving your enemies time to find you and put a much larger bullet into your skull (Unlike the scout it’s harder to relocate in time). Usually want to make sure that when you fire, either your to far away for his buddies to put hole in your head or engage the enemy when they are distracted with your team. Things can get pretty scary when your all grouped up firing at the other team and then you hear a auto sniper unloading into all of your friends.
SG-550
The CT’s auto sniper. In almost all aspects is the same as the SG-1. The only differences is a bit more fire rate at the cost of alot less accuracy and since the swedish make it, costs a bit less (Not doing research on why it cost less, just blame it on the swedish.) Same idea as the SG-1 except it’s a bit more reliable close range then long range.
The AWP
This is probably one of the most famous weapons in CS:S. It’s reliablity is the highest close range if a person is skilled and lowest if they aren’t. Due to it’s high damge, it insta-kills bodyshot or headshot. Glass though, counts as a penetrative object, so shooting through glass and hitting an enemy in the chest won’t automatically kill them. It has a slow chamber time, but there is a certain pistol switch glitch you can do to reduce it. It’s accuracy is terrible while strafing, but wonderful while standing still. All-in-all, the perfect weapon for sitting back, relaxing, and blowing the brains out of unwary enemies.
-LogG- Maximum Over Segway 18 hours ago
This clutch play was to much for the other team btw, there were only the two of us versus 8 terrorists. Here’s the chat log.
(TEAM)-LogG- Maximum Over Segway: I have the hostages, is the front hall clear.
(TEAM)Sinon (Not shoes): Nope
(TEAM)-LogG- Maximum Over Segway: Can you clear it?
Starts hearing sniper shots and watching the kill feed fill up.
(TEAM)Sinon (Not shoes): Two left, none in vision, probably moving to intercept you or to guard garage. Good luck.
Fun times playing casually with my comp team.
Loadouts? (New!)
Your skill and choice of other rifles influences your loadout. If you’re running around using a assault sniper like a assault rifle, then armor, Deagle (If you can aim it), and maybe a smoke or flash bang are best for you. Let’s say your going to stand far back from the fighting with an AWP and you don’t wanna spend to much money, then you would buy a helmet and a high fire rate pistol (If you get jumped or have to keep moving, which sometimes happens if your using the AWP, a faster rate of fire pistol can come in handy). You alter the loadouts how you see fit, but please, don’t use HE gernades, they are a waste of money.
Different sniping techniques
There aren’t many techniques I use, although all of them are simple to understand and can be used by almost all sniper rifles.
Camping (Being a sniper)
Basic sniping stereotype, you lay back behind the safety of your team and pick off any enemies you catch in your sight. Not much to it, sometimes good to move around and keep your ears open for anyone coming to ambush you. If someone gets the drop on you, your practically dead.
Fast and Furious
Your a scourge on the battlefield, your enemies spot you kill one of his friends with a Scout. He opens fire but it is to late, you’ve already rushed back behind cover, he then sees his other friend fall over dead with a small bullet wound in his head, and he sees your already in a new position. This is basically firing and relocating as fast as possible, enemies have a hard time pinpointing you and have to take there eyes and ears off the enemies at hand.
Assault sniper
You open fire at a hallway with an enemy in it, only to get railed over by a person with an auto sniper at your flank. Basically, this is just the aggressive form of sniping, you keep with your team and use your high damage weapons to keep your enemies in cover. Nothing to it, just pertend your playing COD or something. Best used with an AWP or auto sniper.
Conclusion
Hope I gave you all a good explanation in the world of sniping. Please don’t leave anything idiotic in the comments. Once more, don’t contact me over UGC, trading, and/or Skrims in either TF2 or CS:S. Oh, and to anyone who calls a certain weapon in tf2 or CS:S “Noob”, don’t flatter yourself for not using a simple weapon. Have a nice day everyone.
