Overview
This guide will help you obtain all achievements while still playing the game and figuring out puzzles by yourself with minimal spoilers.Since the game requires at least 2 playthroughs to get all achievements, I’ll include a full walkthrough for you to follow on your second playthrough (or first, if you’re here only for the walkthrough and don’t care for achievements).
Foreword [READ ME!]
First and foremost, yes, a lot of achievements is missable. Some also block others, and although there’s no manual save, there’s the “load last checkpoint” option which can spare you from 2 extra playthroughs. Sadly, you’ll still need at least 2 playthroughs in order to obtain all achievement.
So what I suggest you to do is use your first playthrough to play the game your own way, figuring out puzzles and the story on your own. I’ll only provide a few tips for your first playthrough so you get at least the limiting achievements. I won’t list story-related achievements since they can count as spoilers a little bit. Note that the actions you need to take are ordered according to the game’s timeline.
On the second playthrough sections of this guide, I’ll include a full step-by-step walkthrough with all the other achievements, focusing on the limited achievements which we didn’t unlock on our first playthrough. I will list story-related achievements here for the sake of record. If a walkthrough line is only an underlined term, it just means you should interact with that hotspot.
Finally, note that some achievements require multiple steps. In these cases, I’ll add a counter, like (1/4) until (4/4). I’ll add the achievement icon only when it’s unlocked, so you know when to expect it being unlocked.
Good luck, and have fun!
While researching on the internet to make this guide, I found much conflicting information regarding a lot of these achievements. After extensively testing different actions on 2 different Steam accounts, I’m as sure as one can be regarding achievement conditions.
That said, if another guide says you need to do something else in order to unlock a certain achievement, I guarantee you that you don’t. The only dubious information that I present here regards the 2 bugged achievements, Sherlock Holmes and Fine Listener, but they’ll be explained as much as I could test.
1st Playthrough
I’d really recommend you get one specific achievement during your first playthrough: Fine Listener. It requires you to beat the game without skipping any text. You can’t click at all (or press B) to speed through text. I’d recommend getting it now in order to make your second playthrough less painful, but it doesn’t block any other achievement and can be obtained on your second playthrough as well if you’d prefer.
NOTE: This achievement is reported as bugged when playing with M&KB. I can confirm that playing with a controller works. But there’s a workaround if you’re playing with M&KB, which I’ll explain at the end of this section, if it comes to it.
You could also get the achievement for not using the snoopkey, but I think it kinda takes away from the experience. It makes more sense to me to avoid using it on your second playthrough.
Last but not least, I’ve spoiler-tagged this section in an attempt to spoil the least I can while still being able to warn you when you need to do something specific.
Artistic fool
Description: Fall in all balance checks or fall in the same check 3 times
What to do: In the area with the green fog, when you jump onto the globe you’ll trigger a balance minigame. Fail it 3 times to unlock this achievement.
You have 5 opportunities to get this throughout the game, but why not just do it on your first chance? This one is so early in the game that you can even start another slot if you missed it and quickly get to it.
Sadist (1/4)
Description: Let Sadwick die every time it’s possible
What to do: After exiting through the rails, a voice will tell you to hide from the seeker. Disobey, or let the timer run out.
To err is human…
Description: Trigger the same game over sequence twice in a row
What to do: Just repeat the process explained just above, under Sadist (1/4).
Sadist (2/4)
Description: Let Sadwick die every time it’s possible
What to do: When you’re close to the bridge, after Spot gets in the ring, don’t do anything and let the timer run out.
Sadist (3/4)
Description: Let Sadwick die every time it’s possible
What to do: As soon as you walk past the lava crater with Noah, you’ll meet a seeker. Don’t retreat. Insist on the “Venture Forth” option until you get this death sequence.
Sadist (4/4)
Description: Let Sadwick die every time it’s possible
What to do: At the very beginning of the chapter, when a seeker is attacking a shack, don’t do anything, just wait.
Fine Listener
Description: Finish the game without skipping a text
What to do: This will pop after the last scene after the credits. I confirmed you can hit Esc to skip the credits when playing with M&KB, but I’m not sure if hitting B or Start on the gamepad would void this achievement. Leave feedback if you know!
If you did everything correctly and it didn’t pop, you either didn’t do it correctly (lol) or the M&KB bug is real. In either case, you can edit the game file in order to turn things in your favor. Follow these steps:
- Go to the main menu..
- Open this folder: X:Users<your_username>AppDataLocalDaedalic Entertainment GmbHSilenceSavegames<your_steam_ID64>
- Open this file with the text editor of your choice: save_01.txt (assuming you’re using slot 1, otherwise the number will be different)
- Search for: 0000_achv_text_was_skipped
- If the achievement didn’t unlock, I’d guess the value under this will be set to “True”. Change it to “False” (without the quotes)
- Run the game and go through the final scenes again without skipping anything, but you can hit Esc to skip the credits.
2nd Playthrough – Chapter 1
NOTE: Just to be safe, make sure you do everything in order, since some actions have very narrow windows.
You’ll need to get 2 achievements that requires actions throughout the whole game:
- Finish the game without using the snoopkey
- Finish the game without dying
For the first one, don’t ever use the hint button! There’s a tutorial at the beginning of the game that forces you to use it, and this might cause trouble. Just hitting the spacebar very briefly to make the tutorial go away might help (it seems to have worked for me, when I was playing with a controller).
You can check anytime if the game thinks you’ve used the hint button by going to X:Users<your_username>AppDataLocalDaedalic Entertainment GmbHSilenceSavegames<your_steam_ID64>save_02.txt (or another number, if you’re not using the second slot) and checking the value for 0000_achv_snoop_key_was_used (you want it to be “False”).
As for the second one, I’ll warn you when you need to be careful.
Note that some achievements divided into multiple parts MAY carry over between save slots, so it is possible that some unlock before the indicated time.
REMEMBER: IF YOU MESS UP, PAUSE THE GAME AND LOAD LAST CHECKPOINT!!!

Checkmate in 8 moves

NOTE: As soon as you get this achievement, pause the game and Load last Checkpoint, as you’ll need to actually skip this puzzle for another achievement.
This puzzle requires you to move everyone across (apart from Spot, who’ll inevitably end up on the right side) within 8 moves. I’ll spoiler-tag a few tips in case you want to try to solve this on your own, and then the solution at the end.
To move someone across, the person moving can’t weigh more than the total weight on the other side, and can’t weigh more than the total weight of the other characters on their side (this would make the bridge tip and everyone would fall).
Small weights count as 1, while large weights count as 2.
Sam = 6 / Janus = 4 / Sadwick & Kyra = 3 / Spot = 2 / Renie = 1
A head start to serve as example: Since Spot weighs 2, only characters that weigh up to 2 may cross, you have to start with Renie…
One possible solution (there are slightly different variants): Renie, Kyra, Sam, Spot, Janus, Renie, Sadwick, Renie
Remember to quickly pause the game and Load last Checkpoint.
