Notes on Character Choice And Tier Lists
I don’t agree exactly with existing tier lists. Also, Tier lists are also somewhat unfun because they send the message “play only high tier characters and everyone else is worse” which just isn’t fun. A “higher tier” character will not make a bad player into a good player, or an inexperienced player into an experienced player.
Characters are affected by match-ups with other characters, current deck, arenas, events, etc. Character strength varies a lot. Characters’ Hyper cards are a core part of their play-style and strength, not just stats. Different characters have different play-styles, so you might jive with a certain play-style, even if it isn’t “high tier”.
Picking characters based on looks/art/design is also a good option.
Tier lists are highly subjective. Tier lists evolve with the metagame, aka every tier list becomes wrong later bc that low tier character is actually amazing and nobody noticed because they were only playing 1/6th of the roster. Card choice matters as much as character choice. New strategies and solid play can make “lower teir” characters very viable.
Don’t like the meta? Play with friends in private games.
Only playing top tier characters because they’re top tier is boring. Play the characters who are a good fit for your play-style and have a character design you like to look at.
TLDR – PLAY WHO YOU WANT. MAKE YOUR OWN STRATS.
How To Unlock All The Characters
Play all the campaign missions (on any difficulty)
Get stars from playing the game. Online MP games also drop cosmetics.
Spend stars in shop (don’t buy stages)
Tomomo Hell
Buy DLC characters with real money ;_;
Stat Totals
For ver 1.13 “Sealed Guardian”
This is not a tier list. This does not rate passive abilities, hyper strength/cost/lvl, or stat distribution.
The only way to know if a character is good or not for you is to play them.
Res = Revive speed

6 Totals and Up
For ver 1.13 “Sealed Guardian”
This is not a tier list or strength rating. This is just for informational purposes. A character with a higher base stat total may not be stronger than a different character with a lower stat total. This is due to stat distribution, passives, and hyper cards.
Character Roles
This is a broad categorization of characters. This doesn’t take into account subtle nuances of play-style. This is not a tier list. Characters may be listed in multiple categories.
Tomomo Hell Tips
Tank out the damage using Fernet / Kyoko / Kyousuke.
Race for wins using Marc / Yuki / Star Breaker.
Use Poppo and spam hypers. – Suggested by Shade
Cards –
Holy Night if going for star victory.
Oh My Friend can delay Tomomo.
Lonely Chariot can cause Tomomo to kill herself and buy you some time.
Here and there can make Tomomo get lost and deny her normas. – Suggested by Hearts
Mix phenomenon can cancel battlefield. – Suggested by Shade
Map Building Tips
In anticipations of the level editor coming out eventually, here are some speculative map building tips.
4 way or rotational symmetry is a good idea.
Take inspiration from official maps.
Try to accommodate a balance of play-styles, not just your favorite characters.
Playtest with CPU before you make your friends play it, playtest with friends before you “release” it.
When paths branch, try to make every roll give a choice between 2 different kinds of panels if possible.
Making paths connect more often can make it easier for players to meet each other on the board.
Pannel Types:
Star Bonus (Yellow) – Gives stars! Woo! o/
Star Drop (Blue) – Very annoying. Can be used to discourage certain paths. Don’t overuse these.
Encounter (Red) – Can be a good or bad thing depending on circumstances. A risk/reward proposition. These make the game more interesting. Wins players NEED them for their play-style.
Warp (Purple) – Can be used to mix up players on the board, provide a quick get away, or kick players away from home base.
Arrow (Cyan) – Lets players move again. These could be used to make longer paths faster, or just spice things up.
Blank – Boring. Don’t use too many of these, if at all.
Feature Requests
I’d like it if character select remembered your last cosmetic options for every character. Right now, it is only possible to “save” one character’s preset, and that is through the player avatar feature.
It’d be nice if colored cosmetics dropped faster in multiplayer than currently.
I’d like more antler colors. Purple antlers could be given to players who’ve beaten extreme mode.
The “friend” button in mp lobbies doesn’t do anything in Steam Big Picture mode, fix plz.
