A guide to all the stray bead locations within Okami categorized by area, divine brush requirements, availability, etc!
Preface
In this guide I have listed each Stray Bead by number, location, and any requirements needed to obtain specific beads. Brush techniques will not be marked as spoilers! This is because many of these beads are required to or are recommended to be obtained via backtracking.
If you have previously played Okami and are simply wishing to collect each bead during this playthrough, I have listed below which areas fall under what sections so that you may skip ahead.
- Beads #1-#20: Cave of Nagi, Kamiki Village, Shinshu Field, Hana Valley, Agata Forest, and Tsuta Ruins
- Beads #21-#35: Taka Pass, Kusa Village, Sasa Sanctuary, and Gale Shrine
- Beads #36-#56: City Checkpoint, Ryoshima Coast, Sei-an (Commoner’s Quarter), and Sei-an (Atristocrat’s Quarter)

Tip: Some beads require digging up chests to obtain; buried items are much more easily found at night as they emit a beam of light from the ground.
Some beads require upraded versions of Brush Techniques which can be unlocked in the latter half of the game. For a description on how to obtain these, be sure to check this guide I have also made!

Complete the Devil Gate Trial Cave. The entrance is a hard ground dig spot near some cows, behind Ankoku Temple and on the way to the Guardian Sapling. You must first defeat the Bandit Spider and drop back into the cave in order to access to Devil Gate Trial. There will be 10 Devil Gates in a row which must be cleared in the same visit, bring proper items along with you to ensure your success

Buy the charcoal from the Merchant across from the Origin Mirror. Give the charcoal to a little girl in the eastern part of town who is drawing on the ground. Speak to her again and make note of the shape in her thought bubble. Head to the Kimono Shop and draw the same design, being sure Mr. Chic accepts it. Return to the girl and repeat this process five more times to receive a bead

Complete the series of racing minigames against Hayazo and return the four stolen items (a Glass Watch, Millet Dumplings, a Chrysanthemum Hairpin, and a Tao Mask) to their respective owners. To return the last item, refill the dry pond in the southeast, then use Waterspout to access Waka’s base of operations; give the Mask to Abe for the Stray Bead
Defeat Ninetails. The final race can be completed easier if you have the Thunder Glaive weapon equipped

Approach Camille and Camellia underneath the Guardian Konohana in Kamiki Village and headbutt Camille when you are prompted by Camille saying “If someone would just hit me…”. When they appear in Sei’an City near the Kimono Shop, speak to them again until Camille says “Maybe if trees appeared right here out of nowhere, well…”, then paint a dot on the ground to make a tree sprout up. Talk to the duo a third time; when Camille says “Maybe if there was rain right after the tree appeared…”, draw a dot on the ground to make a tree, then use Deluge before the tree disappears. Talk to Camille, who finally believes in Amaterasu’s existence, to get 50 Praise and a Stray Bead.

Reward
Once you have obtained all 100 beads, you will be rewarded with the Holy Artifact called String of Beads. This rewards Amaterasu with invulnerability, infinite ink, and 10x attack power! Now you can begin a New Game+ as a true Goddess.
