Overview
There is limited content available for this game in the internet and new players attempting to play it might have a very difficult time. Sudden Strike is extremely unforgiving and brutally difficult – especially for players who are not used to slow paced, strategy war games. This guide will attempt to cover the basic game mechanics for the beginners and also specific mission walkthroughs.
General Tips about the game
In Sudden Strike everything dies, quite easily. Entire armies can collapse in the blink of an eye under heave artillery fire if you are not careful. Choices you make carry weight and therefore in order to be successful you need to consider the possible consequences of your actions.
In each mission you are given a precious but finite amount of units to control – some missions provide reinforcements after you achieve certain objectives. In any case, unit management is extremely important, since there is no option to recreate lost units. We will discuss the different unit types and their general uses in the next Section.
Usually, your first steps in every mission is to evaluate what you have and what you can do with it. It is very useful to assume that anything outside of your starting line of sight, is enemy territory. And like in real life, enemy territory must be conquered step by step. So in short, start by organizing your units in whichever way you see fit and avoid strolling into the enemy.
Using PAUSE in the first stages of the game can be also very helpful, since the enemy in some missions might not wait for you to get organized, and launch attacks. In such instances, wasting time in order to find your tanks and your cannons and move them into position might prove to be catastrophic. So feel free to PAUSE and organize your army.
Now you are ready to approach the mission.
But how do you approach the mission? Good question.
This game focuses on one certain aspect – vision. Whoever sees the other first, shoots him in the face and wins. If Sudden Strike had a logo, that would be it. Using what you have in order to scout the surrounding area and locate enemy units WITHOUT them locating you, is 99% of the time what you have to do in order to win. Of course, as you get more experienced in the game and the missions get progressively harder the game becomes a lot more complex than that, but vision control remains the main game mechanic that you need to master and, of course, abuse.
