The Legend of the Star
Once you collect 50 star bottle caps, go to festus, an animatronic cowboy. He’s located inside the reception area of the Sunset Sarsaparilla Headquarters.

Other Strategies
Not fond of roaming the wastes, collecting one or two measly star bottle caps at a time? Well, heres a few alternatives.
My Personal Strategy:
Step 1: Get as many sunset sarsaparilla bottles as you can find (preferably at least ~100)
Step 2: Quick-Save
Step 3: Drink around 5-10. Dont get any? Reload to the last quick save.
Step 4: Have a star cap after 5-10 bottles? Good, now quick save.
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you’re out of bottles
Step 6: Rinse and Repeat.
Remember you can get a whole lot of bottles from the sunset sarsaparilla factory, or steal them from fridges. Many vendors have them as well.
Malcolm Holmes:
After you find a couple star caps, a man named Malcolm Holmes will warn you about them. He claims he doesnt collect them anymore, but pickpocketing him, or killing him will prove otherwise. He has between 1 and 6 star caps on him, but this is randomized.
A man of peace? Well, killing a single man wont affect your karma very much.
Thomas and Jacklyn:
Between Nipton and the Nipton road stop, you will come across a shootout.
You will get between 7-9 star caps depending on how you deal with the situation. You can…
A.) Kill Jacklyn (Receive good karma), take her two star caps. Talk to thomas, warn him about their danger, and he’ll give you his 7 star caps.
B.) Kill them both and loot the 9 star caps off of them.
C.) Kill Thomas, and Jacklyn will loot them off of him, and then provoke her and kill her for all 9 caps.
Lucky Horse Shoes:
You can play a game with Festus, and if you win you receive:
6% chance of a star cap
24.44% chance of a card for your caravan deck
69.56% chance of a small amount of caps
This is however not recommended as it takes an entire winning game to get a small 6% chance of a star cap.

Star Caps Locations [Part 1]
This is the locations where you can find Star Bottle Caps in Fallout: New Vegas. There is always the chance of finding others in other places or from drinking Sunset Sarsaparilla.
Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch
Adjacent to the fire extinguisher, on the floor at the bottom of the shelving, in the ground floor corner storage room with the stove.
Horowitz Farmstead
On the left wooden crate, near the sack and two ammo boxes, on the ground, inside the skeletal barn, middle building cluster.
Silver Peak Mine
Between two bottles on the table in front and right of the entrance, inside the mine shack.
Jacobstown
Northern exterior bungalow (adjacent to perimeter stakes): On the gaming table with the cards and empty Whiskey bottles.
Brewer’s Beer Bootlegging
On top of the small bookcase with other caps and a key, just left of the door to the cellar.
Bonnie Springs
In a small wooden crate, one of two in there, on the earth mound, south porch on the corner of the second building away from the campfire.
Vault 19
Living Quarters, Blue Sector: Inside the second dorm on the desk with the terminal and chessboard.
Crimson Caravan Company
Main Office: On top of the Ham Radio amplifier, on the corner desk.
Gun Runners
At the bottom of a small bottle crate on the floor by the metal table with the coffee machine on it, opposite the reception desk.
El Rey Motel
On the long bookcase next to the hat and fan, upper floor rental room (with fairy lights) above the eastern exterior steps.
Camp McCarran
In a small crate on one of the many metal shelves, close to a footlocker where Sergeant Contreras stands, in his supply shack.
NCR Sharecropper Farms
Northeast barracks, by the fertilizer silos, on the desk with the bottle across from the bunk beds.
Aerotech Office Park
Aerotech Suite 300: On the kitchen sideboard counter near the Deviled Eggs, in the far-end kitchen room (last door on the left)
Vault 3
Recreation Area: On the metal table with three bottles and terminal, in (Upper) South Dorm.
New Vegas Steel
In front of the terminal on the desk located across from the Vending Machine, near a Patriot’s Cookbook Magazine, in the office next to the smelting chamber. From outside the building, the Garage Door to New Vegas Steel will take you straight into the correct room.
Allied Technologies Offices
Two caps on the concrete cubicle desk with the other scattered caps, in the filing room with the cabinets, to the right of the entrance.
Grub n’ Gulp Rest Stop
On the plate, on the table adjacent to the shack.
Hunter’s Farm
In the middle of the cluster of Caps, on the kitchen work surface with the crates and bottles

Ground Floor: On the long cash register with the three bottles in the gift shop.

Office top floor: Leonard Steeple’s Office: On the large wooden executive desk near two bottles and a terminal.

The Gray

As you enter go through the door on the south-east wall of the reception area. On the dining table next to the bottle, close to three open fridges.
Nellis Hangars
Two caps in the Mess Hall Hangar, on the eastern most table, with the other caps and a bottle.
Fields’ Shack
Next to the two bottles inside the open fridge, by the oven, on the right as you walk in.
Gypsum Train Yard
Inside the office building: Single Cap on the corner desk with the burned-out terminal, back room with egg clutches.
Cap Counterfeiting Shack
Three caps on the table nearest the Vending Machines, right next to the lantern, near the Nuka-Cola and Sarsaparilla Caps and bottles.
Bitter Springs Recreation Area
Two caps on the sideboard with the bottles, near the ham radio and coffee maker, below the Poseidon Energy poster, right of the dead tree.
Fisherman’s Pride Shack
With other scattered Caps on the table with the Toaster and Salisbury Steak, left of the fridge.
Callville Bay
Captain Dean’s Boat and Bait Shack: Near the three standing bottles on the smashed up counter.

Warning! Don’t Disturb The Debris! Near a submerged truck in NW Lake Mead, W of the Scavenger Platform. Three underwater at the back-end of the truck.
The Prospector’s Den
As you first enter the building inside the cave, turn right into the first door, then look right. The cap is sitting on top of a chessboard on the counter.
Goodsprings
On the game table with the chessboard and bottles, in the master bedroom, in the ranch house Northeast of Doc Mitchell’s.
Ranch house east of the schoolhouse: on the kitchen sideboard bar, near the two bottles and toaster, right next to an exit door.
Sloan
On the round table with the lantern and bottle, near the Vending Machine, in Jas Wilkins’ Mess Hall
The Devil’s Gullet
Bottom of the Gullet, in the small wooden crate with two bottles, next to the skull and rusty ammo box.

California Sunset Drive-in
On the slab of concrete, by the ruined north concrete hut, right of the trash can, between two scattered bottles.

On the formica table next to the bottle, in the kitchen, inside Hell’s Motel.
