Looting The Plane And Crash Site

Main rule of thumb in The Forest is pick up anything and everything you can.

The first thing you want to do after the plane crash is to loot the back of the plane. Grab all the booze, soda, food, and med bottles you can. The booze and soda will help with energy, and the food will heal you.

After that grab the ax out of the lady in the front of the plane on the floor. Now walk out of the plane.

Go to the right of the plane and grab the circuit boards off the side of the plane. These are used for crafting and you can definitely use them later so just hold on to them.

Use I on your keyboard to bring up your inventory to see what you have picked up. You can use things in your inventory if you need to by clicking on them.
Once you got the circuit boards look for the luggage that is scattered around the crash site. Walk up to them and use your mighty ax to crack them open. Each piece of luggage has something useful in it so take advantage of any that you come across if you are low on goods.

Don’t hang around the plane for to long because cannibals will come to investigate what the heck happened.

Setting Up Camp

Our next form of action is to find a place for shelter.

You can build a cozy place in the forest which will be more dangerous till you build up a good defense because you can get surrounded by cannibals.

The other option is to build shelter on the beach. The beach will have a safe side from the cannibals because of the water. But there are sharks so be careful. There is usually good resources on the beach that get washed up.

On your way to the perfect spot pick up anything you can along the way such as, rocks, sticks, leaves, kill animals for food, luggage loot, plants, etc…

So once you settle on a spot to build shelter, hit B on the keyboard to bring up your survival guide. Up top will be different index tabs you can click on. Click on the tent shaped icon which will bring up your shelter page.

The temporary shelter will be the fastest one to build because it only needs leaves (gather those by cutting bushes and plants down) and sticks. In the video I went with the Hunting Shelter to show you guys how to cut trees down. Both shelters do the same thing so it doesn’t matter.

Once you pick a shelter it will have a ghost copy of it so you can place it in the world. Find a spot to put the shelter, you can rotate it by rolding R.
When you’re happy with the placement hit E to place it. Now the resources you need will show in the bottom left corner. Depending on wich shelter you placed will have differnet materials needed.

Pick a small shelter to get started, because the shelter is the only place you can save your game. Don’t go right into building a cabin because it will take much longer to build, increasing your chance of getting killed before saving.
After you got you shelter built, I suggest you just save your game by going up to your shelter and hitting C to save.

Building A Fire And Eating

Next thing to do is to build a fire to cook food so we can eat. Hit B to get your survival book out and look for the camp fire icon up top. Clicking on it will bring up the fire crafting page. Choose whether you want a basic fire for a quick fast fire. Or choose the fire pit to really tie in the decor of your shelter and make things look visually better. Both do the exact same thing just look different.

So now we need some food. Go out and find some tasty bunnies, fish or lizards to have a nice meal. Lizards are easier to kill because they are slower. When you kill one go up to it and hit E on the keyboard twice to skin it and take it.

To get fish you want to look for a long stick usually by ponds. That will be a spear that you can store in your inventory and use as a weapon or to stab fish.

TIP:

Lizard skin can be used for armor.

Once we got our meat of choice. Go up to our built fire and hit I on the keyboard to bring up your inventory. The meat will be down at the bottom right. Select which one you want by clicking on it.

Now light the fire with E and hit C to cook the meat on the fire. Don’t burn your food because it will disappear. But when it’s done cooking a pac-man icon will show. Hit E to eat the food. Now we are set.

Just build up your defenses with the custom building in the survival book and you can survive forever! Maybe.
