The Basics To Mirror's Edge for Mirror's Edge

The Basics To Mirror’s Edge

Overview

This guide will teach you the basics of the game as well as some of the information about Blues and thier weapons.

Game Mechanics

Basic Parkour Mechanics

Sprinting

Sprinting is probaly one of the most used forms of movement in Mirror’s Edge. There is no sprint button included in Mirror’s Edge, but a feature where running for long periods of time speeds you up. If you need to make a long jump, run for a small bit of time, then make the jump.

Jumping

Jumping is also one of the most commonly used forms of movement in Mirror’s Edge. When jumping from a high platform onto the ground below, press crouch when you’re around 10 feet from the ground. That is about the distance you’ll need to make the roll register to not take fall damage.

Wall Climbing

Wall climbing, along with grabbing onto ledges, is somewhat common when parkouring. When wall climbing, you can grab onto a ledge a little less than twice you’re height. If you can’t make it up to a certain ledge, but their’s a wall to the left, right, or behind the ledge, you can do some special moves to make it up.

Wall Running

Wall running a great way to move about the Mirror’s Edge universe. In the last section, “Wall Climbing,” I explained that you can do a special move to get up to a certain place. If a ledge is too high, you can wall run to the side of it, then jump off and reach higher distances. If you have no way to make it to the next platform during a puzzle, you probably need to wall run. During the times you need to wall run, the wall you need to run on wont light up in your Runner Vision. Knowing when to wall run instead of finding another way to get to the place you need to be can be pretty difficult, so know where you going and what you need to do.

Bar Swinging

Swinging on bars is pretty simple and you can usually get the most power out of the first swing if you hold down the forward button when swinging.

Sliding

Sliding under barriers is easy if you time it right. Hit crouch while sprinting just before you get to the barrier. Hold it down until you are completely out from under it, even if you’re just crouching.

Pipes and Ladders

Going down pipes or ladders is way faster than going up, scince Faith slides down instead of climbing down. When jumping from pipe to pipe, make sure you’re about a foot higher from where you want to land, because you do go down some when making the jump.

Vualting

Vualting is pretty uncommon, but very usefull when used correctly. Hitting jump right before a low object will hurdle you over it while maintaining you running speed.

Hurdle Jumping

When runner vision shows a red object right infront of another object, and it looks like stairs, that is a spot where you can hurdle jump. Right before you step on the object you are going to hurdle, hit jump, and you will run up it like a ramp and make a super leap. You will not take fall damage when hitting the ground after doing this.

Ziplines

When using a zipline, you just have to jump up and touch it to grab onto it. Once on, ride down until either A, there’s a crash mat thing below you, or B, it’s the end of the zipline.

NPCs or “Blues”

The Police Officer

This is the first enemy you’ll encounter in your race to save Kate.
They carry the Colt m1911 Handgun, or the Glock-18.

They wear full black Armor and carry the Barret m95 sniper rifle.
Their siper rifles emitt very visible red lazers.
They can’t one hit kill you, but they can stun you leaving you out in the open for another sniper to finnish you off. Never stop moving if out of cover when a sniper is nearby.

Riot Officer

Usually carries the Steyr TMP, M3 Super 90, or a Riot shield and the Steyr TMP.
Wears a white helmet, kneepads, and vest.
If they have a riot sheild, just run.

Pursuit Officers

They can keep up with you while parkouring.
Very difficult to take down.
They wear a blue suit, with body armor. Their armor is very weak against bullets.
They can be holding a taser.

SWAT

SWATs are the most common enemy in Mirror’s Edge.
They can carry any of the following weapons: The FN SCAR, Neostead 2000, the G36C, or MP5.
Only disarm them when not in groups. If you get stuck in a group of them you’re done.

Heavy SWAT

Basically the same as the SWAT, but has more armor, and is bigger.
Harder to kill. Very powerful.
Don’t get stuck in a group of them.

Has a gunner on the helicopter.
Somtimes has a laser coming from the gunner.
