Baldi’s Basics Plus Guide

The Characters of Baldi's Basics+ (v.0.3.4) for Baldi's Basics Plus

The Characters of Baldi’s Basics+ (v.0.3.4)

Overview

A guide hopefully to explain more about everyone you may find in the game! This guide will get much longer as the game updates (Version number will be kept at the last version a character was added/updated, but I will update the guide’s contents if new information becomes available!)Please note: Speed estimates may take a while to get accurate due to the recent speed update, as well as what NPCs wait ’til the player is far enough away to spawn

Baldi

Baldi is the most common character in-game, being the title character and essentially mascot. Baldi’s role in-game is a math teacher, owner of the schoolhouse*, field-trip coordinator*, as well as the player’s main antagonist. [*Citation needed, though it’s implied]

His character poster in the Principal’s Office states:

Great teacher due to his increible hearing abilities! He can not only tell where any sound came from, but who made it too!
Behaviour in-game

Baldi welcomes the player and suggests they play hide-and-seek together (Main modes only). Once the player leaves the elevator area, Baldi will count down from 10, ending his count with “Ready or not, here I come!”. Then, Baldi becomes truly active and will begin to try to catch the player, giving a ruler slap for every time he moves. Where Baldi looks depends on whether or not he knows where the player is.

As mentioned, Baldi moves with each slap he makes- Thus, it’s fairly easy to listen for him (unless you’re inside a Library or during the Broken Ruler event). Baldi will try to follow the player as best he can, following a list of priorities. By default, he will move basically randomly. However, upon seeing or hearing the player, he will move towards their location until he loses track again. Baldi is immune to Conveyor belts.

Baldi will pause in his pursuit if he’s attending the Party at the Principal’s Office event (Only if he doesn’t see you before entering), if you have An Apple for Baldi (Which he will take and eat for a few moments if he catches up to the player), or if you successfully answer a question on a Math Machine (To which he praises you for doing well)

Baldi cannot catch the player if his ruler is broken, if he’s busy eating an Apple, if you two have different gravities in the Gravity Chaos event(v0.2), or if he’s busy praising you for getting math right (v0.3)

Speed and Anger

(Yep, it gets its own section)
Baldi’s speed dynamic and has multiple aspects to it but is controlled by one main aspect- How angry he is. The angrier he gets, the lower the interval between slaps (until there is little to no change) as well as the greater the distance he travels overall (which increases on a curve defined on each floor, so he may move further on later floors)

In Hide-and-Seek, Baldi gets more aggressive for each notebook you grab (Or if you get math wrong).

Base speed
Very slow, easy to outpace via walking
~4 Notebooks
Slightly faster than player walking speed
Max Notebooks
Faster than player run speed

In Endless mode, this behaviour is different. Baldi gets angrier the longer you take to get notebooks, and is slowed by the player grabbing notebooks. Please note that this change is temporary as Baldi is always gradually getting faster… The change in speed is likely equivalent to adding a notebook in hide-and-seek, but with reverse effects [Citation needed]

Hardy Hearing

What exactly Baldi hears from the player is indicated by the Baldicator, but the gist is:

  • Doors (Single and double)
  • Player getting teleported by another character (Principal, Arts and Crafters)
  • Player getting trapped by another character (Chalkles, Mrs. Pomp)
  • Player inside a locker
  • Alarm Clocks
  • Incorrect math (So get those Math Machines right! Baldi also picks up speed from this!)

The player is able to disrupt Baldi’s hearing through multiple means. Namely, using a WD-NoSquee to silence doors/lockers so Baldi can’t hear them, or using the Noise Phone or Baldi’s Least Favorite Tape to temporarily disable his hearing entirely and disorient him

Additionally, if the player walks through a door opened by another NPC, he won’t hear them go through!

Priorities and the Baldicator

As mentioned in the “Behaviour in-game” section, Baldi has priorities and will try to follow the player until he loses track of them, only to resume following once he sees or hears them again.

Baldi’s priorities go as follows:

  1. Where he’s last seen the player
  2. Where he’s last heard the player

When Baldi catches sign of the player, that becomes his priority. He’ll go to his priority and only wander away if he doesn’t see the player at that location. Since seeing the player has a higher priority than hearing the player, he won’t be easily distracted by sounds if he can see you.

His priority when it comes to sounds can be a bit confusing… Some sounds are more important than others, after all! If you open a door in one location then open another door before he reached the first one, his priority will switch to the most recent door you’ve opened. However, if you were to use something like the Alarm Clock and opened a door after it went off, Baldi won’t go to the door you opened until after he’s checked his priority.

The Baldicator lets you know when Baldi hears you, as well as if that sound is his priority! The indicator does this through the two expressions it shows:

Happy face
That sound is where his priority is!
Confused face
The sound is away from his current priority

The Baldicator is handy due to this, as it allows the player to know if Baldi’s heading towards their general area.

Principal of the Thing

The Principal is the 2nd most common character in the game, mostly because he doesn’t appear before the game starts! Principal of the Thing (also known simply as [the] Principal or PotT) is, as one would guess, the principal of Baldi’s schoolhouse. As such, he’s also the one to enforce the numerous school rules, giving detention if he catches any rulebreakers.

His character poster in his office appears to be a quote from Principal himself, stating:

“If I see anyone breaking school rules, I’ll make sure justice is served! It tastes good and fills my tummy!”

The Principal’s character poster is currently the only poster that is fully a quote, leading to some confusion within the community on who wrote them due to the different perspective.

Behaviour in-game

The Principal will wander hallways randomly, taking a preference to areas he hadn’t checked in a while. Principal of the Thing may occasionally check inside rooms while patrolling as well.

The Principal has an idle sound cue, being him whistling a little tune. If he sees someone (mostly the player) breaking a rules, he’ll speed up towards them and address their transgressions, stating “No [insert offense] in the halls!”. If the player makes Principal lose track of them, he will no longer whistle until after he gives the player detention. Principal of the Thing does not exclusively give detention to the player, however. Currently, he can give detention to It’s a Bully if he’s near when Bully’s bullying the player. It’s possible that more NPCs can be given detention in the future for breaking rules.

The Principal’s attention can be grabbed by using the Principal Whistle. Then, he will reassure the player that he’s on his way while he travels to where the whistle was blown.

Default speed
Faster than player’s walk speed
Chasing speed
Faster than player’s run speed
Detention for you!

When the player is given detention, Principal will explain how much detention time you have, then leave with a remark about how you should learn better or saying that your parents will hear about what you did. It can be noted that you can tend to pretty safely break rules while already in detention, even if Principal is still giving you your sentence. Once he leaves, then he will be able to send you to detention again if he catches you breaking another rule.

Your time in detention starts at 15 in-game seconds (slightly faster than real seconds), and gradually increases in 5 second increments until 60 seconds, at which it will then jump to 99 seconds on subsequent detentions- giving Baldi plenty of time to reach you.

The player can (as of 0.1.2) make Principal lose track of their location by successfully hiding from view. When the Principal loses track of who he’s after, he will continue patrolling hallways in search of them until he finds them again. Additionally: Principal will not give the player detention if they break rules while wearing the Faculty Name Tag, though this will not save them if they are caught breaking rules before wearing the tag. Principal of the Thing cannot catch the player if they have different gravities during the Gravity Chaos event, even if he will still call them out for breaking a rule

Gotta Sweep

Gotta Sweep can be a fairly common character, able to appear on F1 onward in-game. He is the schoolhouse’s janitor, sweeping through areas semi-randomly every once in a while with little disregard for who he sweeps into.

Gotta Sweep’s character poster in-game says the following:

What do you do when the school opens in 7 hours and you haven’t hired a janitor? Hire a broom! It sweeps everything!

Currently, Gotta Sweep’s poster is one of few posters that talk more about the circumstances of why a character is at the school as opposed to the character themselves.

Behaviour in-game

Gotta Sweep spawns in a 1×2 unit closet, waiting there until at least 120 seconds after spawning in to start sweeping, announcing his activity by exclaiming loudly “Look like it’s sweeping time!”.

While sweeping hallways, Gotta Sweep will swiftly move through hallways and rooms, sometimes circling around an area at least once if it loops. If Gotta Sweep hits anyone, he states “Gotta sweep, sweep, sweep!” while continuing on his way. He will continue to sweep for an estimated 30 seconds before returning to his closet.

Movement speed
Much faster than player’s running speed
Push Speed
Slightly below movement speed

The exception to Gotta Sweep’s default movement speed is during a Party at the Principal’s Office event, in which Gotta Sweep moves much closer to the player’s walk speed while heading over.

Gotta Sweep, Sweep, Sweep!

In the event that you find yourself swept up in the broom’s bristles, don’t fear! Gotta Sweep’s pushing velocity being lower than his speed (v0.1.1) means that you will naturally become free with time. Alternatively, you can either hasten or prolong the process by moving while being swept. Be warned, however! Due to this, that means NPCs can escape easier, too!
Aligning yourself (or just finding yourself in the position) to hit an object/structure while being pushed will also help quickly stop you from going any further.

Using Big Ol’ Boots prevents Gotta Sweep from pushing the player. Having different gravities during the Gravity Chaos event will also prevent you from being swept.

Mrs. Pomp

Mrs. Pomp is semi-uncommon, being unable to show up until F2 of the game. She’s the 2nd teacher added to the game, and fortunately she doesn’t interact with the player that often.

Her character poster in the Principal’s Office says:

Hops around in her high-heeled shoe inviting students to her class. Make sure you’re not late! Or else!
Behaviour in-game

Mrs. Pomp will wander around aimlessly through the schoolhouse, occasionally going into rooms as she travels. She will not initially spawn if her spawning location is too close to the player.

Her movement is quite loud, a distinctive stomping sound being heard for each hop she makes. As soon as she sees the player, she calls out to the player by saying “You there!” (Added 0.1.2), then proceeding to quickly hop over and stop them. While the player is stopped, she reminds the player to attend her class within a certain amount of time, saying that you can find her class indicated on the map. (Her class is indicated with a hopping image of the teacher herself, with a timer next to it) Mrs. Pomp is immune to Conveyor belts.

Default speed
Slower than player’s walk speed
Active speed
Inescapable without items/NPCs/nearby hiding spot

Mrs. Pomp appears to still travel at a speed a touch slower than the player’s old walking speed.

Class time with Mrs. Pomp

After Mrs. Pomp informs the player about her class, she will hurry off towards what room it’s held in and remain there until either the player arrives or the player is late. Along with the timer on the map, Mrs. Pomp gives another reminder every minute about the remaining time to get to her class, a timer floating across the screen as additional visual aid. If the player successfully makes it to her class within the time limit, Mrs. Pomp will immediately dismiss the class and award the player 100 YTPs. After you attend, she will be on a cooldown for about 2.5 minutes until she is able to invite you to class again. (v0.3.4)

If you choose to (or are otherwise unable to) attend class, however… Upon Mrs. Pomp giving the final reminder, it’s only a matter of time before she acts again. When the player next enters a room, they will hear the rapid stomping of Mrs. Pomp going to wait outside the door for them. Once the door is opened, Mrs. Pomp will forcefully pull the player with her as she stomps off to her classroom, demanding to know why they didn’t attend her class. The player will have greatly reduced speed while being pulled (v0.3.4). After being dragged to class, Mrs. Pomp will shut and lock all the classroom’s doors until she’s finished stomping about (v0.3.3).

You can try to fight her pull (e.g with Big Ol’ Boots) and if you successfully get away, Mrs. Pomp will realise she lost you and try to find you again to take you to her class- not giving up until she’s successful or you leave the level.

Mrs. Pomp cannot stop the player to remind her of her class if you two have different gravities during the Gravity Chaos event. It appears she can still drag you even if your two gravities are flipped.

Cloudy Copter

Cloudy Copter (otherwise abbreviated to “Cloudy”) is a fairly common character, able to appear on F1, whose role is simply being a cloud.

Their poster in the Principal’s Office says the following:

A cloud who loves being a cloud doing cloudy things. Floats around and blows strong winds down halls.

Cloudy Copter’s name is in reference to Cloudy looking “vaguely like a helicopter”

Behaviour in-game

Cloudy Copter will randomly wander hallways, occasionally stopping at the end of a hallway segment (typically at corners, though could stop at intersections as well) to blow wind down the uninterrupted hallway segment they stopped at.

Cloudy Copter doesn’t have a sound while moving, but when blowing wind does have a sound effect to listen for. Additionally, you will see a wind effect down the entire affected hallway.

Movement Speed
Faster than player run speed
Push speed
Slightly slower than player walk speed
Catch a breeze

Cloudy Copter will, as mentioned prior, travel around the schoolhouse until they stop at a hallway end, then blow wind down it. The wind blows away from their current position, and what hallway end they go to next is random. The wind cannot blow past elevators, into rooms, or through wide-open areas, but it can blow through swinging doors.

Cloudy can be interrupted from their wind-blowing by being pushed or if the Party at the Principal’s Office event happens (Please note that the wind may bug when the event starts, staying after Cloudy leaves). Additionally, you can become immune to the wind via wearing Big Ol’ Boots

Chalkles

Chalkles is an odd but rather common character (able to spawn on F1) that somehow gained sentience, as well as the current smallest character in the game

The description poster for them states:

Some kid drew this face and next thing you know it’s floating around, laughing and making mischief.

Perhaps the oddest case of a character being made by someone else, seeing as there’s no known reason behind Chalkles flying off the chalkboard

Behaviour in-game

Chalkles doesn’t really exist for the entire round, only appearing once the player enters a classroom with a blank chalkboard on it

Chalkles will make a warbling sound for 15 seconds before coming off the chalkboard, gradually fading into existence. If the player leaves before he fully forms then Chalkles instantly disappears. If the player doesn’t leave and Chalkles successfully makes it off the chalkboard, they will fly around for 25 seconds, laughing the entire time

Chalkles, due to being restrained to blank chalkboards and never leaving the room, doesn’t necessarily have a relevant speed. Though, the speed at which they fly around the room is perhaps a bit slower than the player can run

Making Mischief

If the player fails to leave the classroom before Chalkles fully spawns, the door will be locked and Chalkles will fly around in a circular motion, laughing the entire time. The laughter grabs Baldi’s attention and draws him towards the room- leaving the player trapped unless they can either hide (e.g. Dirty Chalk Eraser), fend off Baldi, or leave quickly enough. The door unlocks automatically when Chalkles flies into the ceiling of the classroom (Please note that the sound is made at the chalkboard, so Baldi will approach that specific area of the room if he doesn’t see you. Hiding at the chalkboard or somewhere visible from there isn’t the safest!)

Chalkles will ignore you if you’re wearing a Faculty Name Tag (v0.1.3), but if you’re trapped in the room you have a few ways to escape early. Namely, if you have the Principal’s Keys, a Dangerous Teleporter, a Poster Portal, were being pursued by Principal for breaking a rule, or the flood event is happening at the time

Arts and Crafters

Arts and Crafters (may also be referred to as AnC) is presumably a student, as well as a common character able to spawn on F1 that avoids the player for most the floor.

His poster in the Principal’s Office states the following:

Shy, and tries to be avoided. Doesn’t like being looked at, and gets jealous at people with more notebooks than him.

His poster once said something different in early versions of the original game, but it was changed for not originally revealing a lot about him.

Behaviour in-game

His behaviour matches fairly well to what the character poster says… Being, Arts and Crafters will typically spend his time trying to hide away from the player. Running away if they get too close, turning invisible, or even teleporting away when they aren’t looking. You may often find him towards the end of hallways.

AnC is a quiet character, not making any noise until aggressive towards the player. He gets jealous when the player gets at least one more notebook than him, which in each floor just means that grabbing the max amount of notebooks makes him jealous. Unless you’re playing endless mode, in which case he has 6 notebooks and getting 7+ notebooks makes AnC aggressive.

Default speed
Much faster than player’s run speed
Charging speed
Starts slow, increases indefinitely while still chasing
WHOOOOOSH

Once the player has enough notebooks to make Arts and Crafters jealous, they must traverse the hallways very carefully! Looking at AnC for longer than a second will make him charge the player, though he doesn’t seem as easily aggro’d when you’re looking at him backwards. Upon reaching the player after charging, he will spin around the player in a hypnotic fashion for a few moments before teleporting them to a location that was randomly determined upon level-gen. But beware; Baldi gets teleported to a set distance away from the player, and is alerted to your new location! (v0.3.3)
After teleporting the player, AnC disappears from the floor entirely for the rest of that round.

Please note that AnC may struggle following the player into rooms thanks to his high velocity, which may also make him miss turns through intersections- Potentially buying the player more time.

Arts and Crafters will ignore you despite jealousy if you’re wearing a Faculty Name Tag

It’s a Bully

It’s a Bully is semi-common, able to appear on F1, though may be hard to notice all the time due to him not walking around like others might. It’s a Bully (otherwise known as THIS IS A BULLY or just simply [the] Bully) is one of many students found in Baldi’s school.

The Bully’s character poster says the following:

Here at here school, we believe every good school needs a good bully! That’s why we have this kid!

It’s currently unspecified if Bully already attended the school when he became the school’s dedicated bully, or if he was invited with the expectation to fill that role.

Behaviour in-game

It’s a Bully will choose a location to stand in, then remain there until he gets bored (Which takes over about 180 seconds after spawning).

While standing in place, Bully will block whatever he’s in front of but doesn’t make much noise. If the player approaches him, he’ll request an item (or threaten to take your candy). Principal of the Thing will send the Bully to detention if he catches him bullying in the halls, and Bully will not appear again until after a cooldown timer ends. (est. 90 seconds)

It’s a Bully, due to standing still, does not have any set speed- but instead teleports between locations. The game will check for potential traps with spawn locations, so he should never spawn in a place that will trap the player if they have no items. (e.g. If the spawn location is too close to the player)

Being Bullied by Bully

When the player approaches It’s a Bully, as mentioned prior, he will request/demand an item. The Bully will not let the player pass by if they have no items to give, instead saying “What!? No items? No items, no pass..” and won’t budge from his spot. If the player has an item or items, he will take one at random and disappear, thanking the player for their “generous donation”

While standing in a hallway, he will actually block the view of other NPCs due to being so large they can’t see around him (Canonical reason). While other can still pass through him, blocking the sight of others can be helpful if the player can use that to their advantage. Please note, however, that he doesn’t block the full hallway– An NPC may still see you if you’re both at the right angle!

If you don’t want It’s a Bully to take a valuable item, you can either have Principal send him to detention, or use the Faculty Name Tag, which makes It’s a Bully disappear when you walk into him. It’s a Bully cannot block your path if you two have opposite gravities in the Gravity Chaos event, nor will he steal an item. He can, however, still get in trouble for bullying.

Playtime

Playtime is an uncommon character and can only spawn on F2 and higher. She’s one of many students found in Baldi’s schoolhouse and one of the smallest characters in the game.

Her character poster’s description says:

Despite her poor eyesight and short memory, she’s always looking for a playmate!

“Let’s play!”

Her original poster description lacked the mention of short memory, but this was updated later on when Playtime was changed so that she’s guaranteed to turn around upon losing the player. This is the only other poster besides Principal’s that contains a quote

Behaviour in-game

Playtime will wander through halls randomly until she finds someone to play with, and she will not spawn immediately if the player is too close.

She’s currently the only character that plays a tune, being what seems to be a (potentially altered) music box version of the nursery rhyme ‘A Tisket, A Tasket’. She also has 2 idle lines, being “I want to play with someone!” or a cheerful giggle. Because of this, she’s very easy to listen out for.
Upon spotting the player, she’ll call out “Let’s play!” and hurry over. However, because of her poor eyesight, she very easily loses track of the player and gets sad. Another way of making her sad is by cutting her jump-rope. After a successful game of jump-rope (Or if the player cuts her jump-rope) she will not try to play again for about 15 seconds.

Walking speed
Same as player’s walk speed
Chasing speed
Slightly faster than player’s run speed
It’s Playtime

Once Playtime catches up to the player successfully, she will then require them to jump-rope with her 5 consecutive times, enthusiastically counting each jump. Should the player fail a jump, she will make them start over from the beginning. After jumping 5 times (via pressing space) Playtime will happily leave, saying “Wow! That’s great! Let’s play again.. Sometime soon!”

You’re able to get out of Playtime’s minigame early through a multitude of ways, though perhaps the safest method is by using the Safety Scissors on her, which cuts her jump-rope and makes her very sad. Other ways for the minigame to end early include getting pushed and getting teleported. The easiest method, though not the most accessible or safest, is by entering a nearby Blue Locker (added v0.1.5)

Playtime will ignore you if you’re wearing the Faculty Name Tag, and cannot play with you if you two have different gravities in the Gravity Chaos event.

Beans

Beans is a fairly common character, able to appear on F1, and is the oldest student found in Baldi’s schoolhouse thanks to being the only student confirmed to be held back (For being

).

Beans’ character poster in the Principal’s Office states the following:

Tries to impress others by blowing bubble gum bubbles, but usually just ends up spitting them out.

Beans doesn’t appear to know why he was held back, but attributes it to his gum habits.

Behaviour in-game

Beans will wander around randomly through hallways, occasionally electing to “skip” instead of walking normally. (Fun fact: Beans is currently the only character that has a separate animation for going faster, and the 3rd character to have an animation at all for moving)

Beans may occasionally say something when moving around idly, most the time being a little rhyme. When Beans eventually does see the player, he’ll say one of multiple voicelines, typically along the lines of ‘watch this!’. After he’s acknowledged the player, he’ll stop moving to chew gum for a few moments, then blow- Spitting the gum out instead and panicking because of it. Bean’s gum is able to hit most NPCs as well as the player. He won’t try to perform another trick for a few moments after spitting gum, and speeds away. Beans is immune to Conveyor belts.

Walking speed
Slightly faster than player’s walk speed
Skipping speed
Faster than player’s run speed

He’s the only character that will randomly change speed when moving idly.

Sticky Situations

If Beans manages to hit someone with his stray gum, he not only feels deeply embarrassed, but the affected person (be it NPC or the player themselves) will be trapped in the gum with greatly reduced speed for 10 seconds. The player can get out of gum quicker if they’re equipped with Safety Scissors. (v0.1.2)

As of v0.1.3, Beans will ignore the player if they’re wearing a Faculty Name Tag

The Test

The Test (Otherwise abbreviated to “Test”, formally TestDithered) is possibly the rarest character currently in-game (Only able to appear on F3). His role in the schoolhouse is unknown.

His poster in the Principal’s Office states:

If you want to keep an eye on anyone, look no further than this fella! Don’t forget where you last spotted him!

This poster is currently unique for not saying anything about the character itself, but rather purely talking about a related game mechanic in the form of a light-hearted warning.

Behaviour in-game

Test will stand in a hallway for an indefinite amount of time, only moving if you fail to look at him while he’s active or if he’s somehow moved by an outside force. (e.g. Cloudy Copter) It’s important to note that he will not spawn initially if the player is too close.

The Test has no idle sound cues. The only way to know where The Test is is to spot him. The Test does have an activation sound, however! In which the player must either be unviewable by or staring at The Test when it is over. Afterwards, further staring at Test will cause him to play an ominous droning noise for as long as you two see each other. The poster is very literal when it says keep and eye on him and remember where you last saw him. The Test will only activate when you look at him- being in the same hallway as Test without seeing him is safe until he’s been looked at.

The Test doesn’t really move on his own if you’re not in his sight or if he’s in yours.. But be careful, as he can be pushed! (Or, if you’re particularly unlucky, taken by a whirlpool) The Test will also move if the player fails to look at him, moving at incredible speeds until he either catches up to the player or he’s in their sight again (Think of if “Chainsaw Baldi” from the original game was held in place so long as he was visible, but way faster). If Test blinds the player, he will spawn in a random location once the blinding effect ends.

Keep an eye on him…

When you eventually do see Test, he will play his activation sound and raise his head. You have 5 seconds to either get out of sight or stare him down. If you’re in his sight, you must be looking towards him. You don’t have to keep him in the center of the screen, but just in-view of the screen for as long as he can see you for. Failure to do so will almost certainly result in blindness. Additionally, while looking at The Test while active, he will freeze all other NPCs in place and the lights will flicker.
Currently, The Test does not deactivate until the blindness effect is triggered, making it crucial that the player remembers where he was

If the player fails to look at The Test while he can see them: He will swiftly blind the player, his head floating at the player’s position where he caught them looking away. This blindness lasts for 2 minutes as music plays. Unlike the fog, The Test’s blindness makes the majority of your screen black and only affects your vision.

If you use a Dirty Chalk Eraser, you can prevent The Test from seeing you if you need to turn away. The Test cannot blind you if you two have different gravities in the Gravity Chaos event, but he sure will try!

1st Prize

1st Prize is a semi-common character, though is able to appear on all floors. They were made by a student for the science fair, but it’s never specified who made them.

The character poster for 1st Prize says:

Won 1st Prize at the Science Fair! Loves hugging people, rushing towards anyone it sees. Sadly, it turns super slowly.
Behaviour

1st Prize wanders hallways randomly in search of the player, specifically. It can be noted that they hardly try to move diagonally, and may struggle with diagonal movements if they’re trying to follow you. 1st Prize also will not initially spawn if the player is too close.

1st Prize consistently makes a motor noise, which picks up in speed if they’re moving. Aside from that, 1st Prize has a couple of idle lines. 1st Prize needs to come to a full stop in order to turn, taking quite a while to do. When the player enters their sight, 1st Prize would announce to the player that they see them/are coming over, then accelerate forward. 1st Prize would try to decelerate once the player leaves their sight, which may make them slide past the turn they needed to make due to their top speed being so fast. This can make it hard for them to turn into intersections. 1st Prize is immune to Conveyor belts.

Default speed
Slower than player’s walk speed
Charging speed
Starts slow, accelerates quickly until faster than player’s run speed

1st Prize and Gotta Sweep’s max speeds are very similar (if not the same), but the broom often out-paces 1st Prize due to not depending on the player’s presence to go fast. Despite this, 1st Prize can out-push Gotta Sweep thanks to never losing grip on the player. (They can even out-push a Grappling Hook!)

I see you!….. Friend!

If 1st Prize successfully reaches the player, they will push them until something forcibly stops their push (Most the time, a wall). The player can escape their grip prematurely, however, through a few methods e.g. being teleported by an NPC or being sucked up by a whirlpool. Perhaps the most effective method is via disabling them with Safety Scissors, which works for 30 seconds and the effect can be stacked. 1st Prize has a sort of gripping mechanism, making it hard to avoid getting pushed down hallways; This is likely 1st Prize “hugging” you. They cannot push other characters, nor do they try to.

1st Prize cannot push you while you’re wearing Big Ol’ Boots, or if you two have different gravities in the Gravity Chaos event.
