The ECHOPLEX Speedrunning guide for ECHOPLEX

The ECHOPLEX Speedrunning guide

Overview

Speedrunning guide for ECHOPLEX, Exploits & Level Routes.

Introduction

I’ve had this “WR” for ECHOPLEX for a while now, and after noticing Shidan was better at the game than I was, and actually got the perfect run achivement. I decided to make this.
Hopefully someone wants to speedrun this, so I have a reason to play again

If you haven’t already speedran/beaten the game through once normally, you’re going to want to do that. This isn’t a walkthrough of how to beat echoplex, and you’re gonna need time trial mode anyway.

Super jump

Let’s get this out of the way,

The Super jump
(a.k.a. Long Jump)
(Only I call it that..)

This exploit is super simple, it’s like in some old games where walking diagonal is slightly faster than if you were to walk forward. But here, you only gain that extra speed when you jump.

If you’re walking diagonal near a wall you can do a “Super jump” just as if you were doing a normal one, holding jump when you land on the ground again will continue the jump.
The speed does carry over, so you go even faster with every jump, and in some levels you can gain enough speed to warp out of bounds.

This works because ECHOPLEX tests for a ledge in front of you when doing a jump, and if there is, you will do the longer jump you notice playing through the game normally, and since there’s no ground out of bounds, it counts as there being a ledge.

The “Super jump” is especially helpful for levels such as “Communion”, where all you need to do is jump to the door.

Variations of the “Super jump” that I’ll refer to later are
Stuttered “Super jump” or, as I like to call it a Buffered long jump, BLJ
Meaning you do a regular hop before a Super jump, this is good for certain levels where you only have so much room or need to land somewhere specific.

and I’ll refer to any moment where you have to Super jump twice or more in a row as DLJ, Double long jump
also when I say jump I normally mean Super jump.

This exploit in itself changes how you can beat most of the levels.
I’d suggest you try running the game for yourself with the Super jump before reading on, getting the hang of this is important, and you might just find some good routes.

Level Routes

Here’s a list of all the levels with big skips.

Bold = Echoless Route
☠ = Risky Route

  • 4 | Gone elvis
  • 9 | Friendly fire
  • 11 | Communion
  • 12 | Proximity
  • 13 | Moonbeam ☠
  • 16 | Momento
  • 17 | God particle
  • 25 | Follow the leader
  • 26 | Coda
  • 27 | Signal to noise ☠

I haven’t done tons of math or research on the other level’s routes, so, make your own as far as those go, and feel free to share (Or don’t)

I’ll assume you know how to beat each level beforehand.

Gone elvis

BLJ across and quickly jump back into and through the pink room,
BLJ back across and then wait for your echo to catch up, this saves hardly less than a second, but still does save time if you’re efficient with your jumps.

Freindly fire (Echoless)

Friendly fire is pretty straightforward, DLJ across.

[link]
Communion

Jump to the end, if you DLJ across the hall you should make it in time for the door to open.

[link]
Proximity (Echoless)

Jump past the drone to get the fragment, then jump back quckly,
fall down and then grab the ledge to your right, count out one second before getting up again and jumping up onto the ledge and then across the hall the drone used to be.

Moonbeam ☠

This one is tight
DLJ through the hall, jump to the fragment, BLJ to the purple switch, jump across to the next fragment and then Super jump your way back to the purple door at the end.

this one can make me reset a few times.

[link]
Momento (Echoless) ☠

Quickly (and I mean quickly)
Super jump to the fragment, and get the hell out before the Echo kills your run.

[link]
God particle (Echoless)

Jump to the left, then BLJ across to the fragments, from there just stroll to the end.

[link]
Follow the leader

Take the right path and get the fragments, then BLJ across to the other side and to collect the other fragments.

[link]
Coda (Echoless)

DLG through normally, until you’ve passed the pink room, when you jump across, do a 180 and just leap to the end.

[link]
Signal to noise

This one is super tight because the echo does have to live.
Super jump out of the door, DLJ across the room, ignoring the white switch.
Jump back and to the ledge that you’re supposed to jump across later.
Then get the fragment behind the white door, the rest is played normally. (except you DLJ everywhere)

Runs (Conclusion)

Me – 12:45.891

I don’t have the Current WR, or any full runs recorded or else they’d be here.

Here is the playlist of all the Routes

Comment your Speedruns, or post any other related questions or discoveries if you’d like, and I’ll add them in!
