Overview
A handy dandy field manuel to either quickly learn about the game or lookup information you didn’t know(or forgot) about the new stuff in this barotrauma version
BEFORE YOU READ
Much like the game this guide is not finished at all and is subject to change at any time. Either the game changes or I figure something knew out. With that said I hope you might be able to learn a thing or 2 from this.
The basics
WILL BE WRITTEN SHORTLY
The reactor
The reactor is now reworked to a easyer to use system. But the downside is that now the automatic temp control IS NOT RELIABLE. I would not use it and instead let a bot/player manage it because it updates very slowly leaving you many times without power when you change your altitude alot(if you for example try to dodge a monstesr.)
The medical system and chemicals
The medical system is reworked into a more refind version. Where as you used to just grab a needle and thrust it in some ones eye to heal them. Now you actuely have to know what you are doing. This section will cover the medical system and some chemicals and there effect
Afflictions
Any condition like bleeding, pressuere, etc is what we will call afflictions. There are quite a few and they have varying effects. Knowing them all grants you great power.
BLEEDING
Bleeding is quite simple. most creatures can inflict bleeding and some creatures can be afflictid by bleeding. Bleeding is applyed by certain attacks. Thinks like bullets and diving knives apply bleed damage. It will show up as a red drop and the more of these drops you have the faster you bleed. While bleeding you take damage. If you want to heal bleed damage youl need to first stop the bleeding with bandage’s and then give them a blood bag
HUSK INFECTION
Husks infection are caused by 2 things. Either you are bit by a husk or you ingested calyxnide eggs. When you are infected you wont know you are infected until youl be promted that you fill something in your throat and cant speak anymore. If you get this its pretty much too late to be cured. A medical docter can see the presence of husk with his medical scanner he spawns with. You can cure husk infection early on with calxynide or Anti biotics
The monsters
Barotrauma sure has alot of freaky things in the sea. But here are some quick tips on dealing with them
The generel things
Something to always keep in mind is that ALL MONSTERS CAN BE STUNNED AS OF NOW. This includes the endworm. A good tactic for more experianced players is to go out with a baton and stun what ever BIG monster hunts you to buy yourself more time. Bigger monsters(except tiger treshers) tend to focus more on the submarine rather then the player. So you should be able to get 1 stun in. Generly the best way to survive is to avoid monsters. Its not only a danger to fight the monsters but drains resources. A few ways to make sure you arent being spotted is to have passive sonar so that they cant hear you and if you are spotted that you make enough distance that they stop following you.
The new addition of decoys would also help out to make a quick escape. Keep in mind they drop has a depth charge so make sure you are high up when you drop it to give yourself ample time.
The Moloch
The death shell. You will encounter this one quite alot and they are very annoying. They are very beefy and can take more then 7 railgun shells to take down if you dont him them on the weak spot, and even then it can take 4 or more. Whilest very slow, if it ever goes close to you you might aswell grab a plasma cutter and destroy all the windows because a good change it will send you flying(or diving?) They hit like a truck(literly) and can knock holes in your ship in 1 hit. They also are very persistant and wont lose track of you easly so there is a good change if you encounter one youl find it swimming behind you after standing still for a bit. It still is the best situation to run away because its a waste of resources to kill it because it eats shells for lunch. A tip to evading them in tight corners is to go below it. It will look very big on the rader but thats because of its tenticals. DO NOT go above it because it will be hard to judge when you are in its striking zone. They also tend to not go after single humans so a tactic if your ever caught is to stun it with a baton and try to quickly get away. Keep note that if you get caught in between the moloch and the sub you will instantly die to do the force of his bonk. The moloch can hear but not see
The Hammerhead
While I have not seen it in the wild YET. It is a low tier quick moloch. It has descent damage and descent speed. But nothing to great. It will however go after humans before the sub so keep in mind that you arent very safe if you try to stun it.
The Mudraptors
Dont let its low health pool fool you. Its fast and strong. It can quickly follow behind your submarine and make a hole in a few hits. It also walks very so I would take some care with trying to fight this enemy. Your submarine in some cases however should still be faster and a decoy may assist in making sure it wont follow you
New items
The sonar beacon
As the name implies. The sonar beacon is a tool that allows you to ping your location on the submarine sonar. This can be very usefull if you wish to be recoverd however this might also attract other unwanted attantion
Few notes/Changes
Here I will quickly go over a few things that you should take note of during your missions IN GENEREL
-You are noticed much easyer when you use the sonar, the passive sonar works best of how loud your submarine is based on how fast you are going and the size of the submarine
-The camara now shakes when a creature hits your sub
-When you reach the end of the map you actuely have to dock and enter it via a hatch above, This means you cant try to outrun monsters because you might get caught while trying to dock.
-The automatic temperatur control is not that great. Either make sure the engineer/mechanic watches it at all times or keep your AI on it.
-You can lower power consumption by not changing altitude as much. Try to cruise to conserve power for easyer mangement.
