My Way of starting off a game.
When you first wake up in the plane you can scavenge the plane for meds, the axe, a tray (multiplayer) food, booze, and energy drinks. When you are done I’d recommend breaking all the cases surrounding the plane, after this, you can either go to the island on the left side of the map or build in a tree, these are some of the safest options. But it’s up to you to decide where you build.
The game is quite easy until day 7, this is where creepy mutants spawn and harder cannibals.

Red = Unconfirmed spawn locations but apartently there is a chance of it spawning here.
Green = My spawn locations and i believe the most common / confirmed locations
Good Starting locations.
1: The Rock Lake:
This location was my goto place to build, it has an endless amount of cloth (from the cannibal camp) Rope, Trees, food, Turtle shells (by the beach) It’s close to the Boat and the modern axe cave.
When you build in the middle of the lake, cannibals cannot get to you. 100%
2: A small island south west of the main island, it has multiple other islands next to it too, after you manage to set up boats/ ziplines, this is a great location.
3: This is a really flat area, close to the beach, close to boar spawns, deer spawns, etc, and many trees.
4: This location is a place many people use, after you cover the north side with a wall, cannibals cannot get to you (unless they bug out)
5: This location is flat with only 1 main entrance you can fill up with 2-3 walls after you fill in the walls, it will be hard for cannibals to get to you, it has turtle spawns if i am correct.
Island: This island has about 6 Turtle spawns, all with 3 turtles each time, it may be hard to set up ziplines (roughly 30 rope) but after this, this is an amazing location to build on.
Animal Kingdom: I call this animal kingdom because i managed to fill 5-10 meat racks and 2-4 skin racks in 30-45 mins of being in the area. Its close to the katana spawn, the chainsaw spawn, and the climbing axe.
The Enemys you will encounter

“After the plane crash, the mutants will not immediately look for the player and the mutants may be are unaware of the player’s presence on the peninsula. It is possible, though difficult to remain unnoticed by the mutants for an extended period of time and it is essential mutants are faced in order to complete the story. Mutants will regularly patrol the land and during this time it is possible to kill a lone mutant and remain undiscovered. However, if the player is seen and a mutant has successfully run away, it is possible that aggression will increase. For the first few days simple fortifications, walls, and traps will keep the mutants from attacking the player, however, eventually, the mutants will send creepy mutants to the players camp, which are much more difficult to defeat than mutants.”

Skinny Mutants: These Mutants are the easiest to kill and show up early in the game, they will always attack you. They are fast but only take a few hits before they get knocked down/killed.
Their weapons consist of their hands or sticks
Spawns day: 1
Regular Mutants: These Mutants are the main ones you will be seeing during the early stages of your game cycle, unlike the skinny mutants, they won’t attack you instantly, they will watch you and if you cut down trees, create bonfires, get to close to them, they will begin to aggro on you.
Their weapons consist of their hands, sticks, and crafted clubs/axes
Spawns Day: 1
FireMutants: These Mutants spawn in roughly at day 7, with the sole purpose to throw firebombs at the player and their bases.
Their weapons consist of: Their hands, Fire Torch, a club and a firebomb.
Spawns day: 7?
Blue/pale mutants: These mutants can be found in caves and will spawn on the surface after day 6. They are much stronger and harder to kill.
Their weapons consist of Their hands, Sticks and crafted clubs/ axes
Spawns day:6
painted Mutants: These Mutants can be identified with them being painted white and covered in crosses, They are stronger than Normal and blue/pale mutants.
Their Weapons consist of Their hands but mostly, Crafted Clubs, axes, normal mutant clubs and a tennis racket.
Spawns day: 15
Masked Mutants: these are the last stage of cannibals that will spawn, they have roughly the same damage and health than pale/blue cannibals, they tend to stay in packs of 2-5 (though i have seen much more at one time very late game) These cannibals tend to help knocked down and incapacitated cannibals.
Their Weapons consist of Their hands, sticks and crafted clubs/axes.

These mutants are different from normal cannibals, as they are much stronger and more health.
Virginia
This mutant is strong, agile, fast and annoying. It’s recommended to use fire and ranged weapons to kill this mutant.
Their attacks: Leg attack, Charge attack and Leap attack.
Spawns day: 7
Armsy: This mutant is extremely strong. And it can kill an unarmed player with 2-3 hits, Like the virginia, it’s recommended to use fire and explosives. This mutant will destroy your base fast
Their attacks: “Thunder Clap”, A single Strike, a triple strike and “Thrash”
Spawns day: 7
Cowman: This mutant is easy to kill if you have a fire, as when they are on fire, they cannot move for a good 10 seconds, which is a good amount of time to hit them, or throw an explosive by their feet.
When they charge you it bypasses your armor, so don’t get hit.
Their Attacks: Charge, Stomp, Bellyflop
Spawns day: 7
Mutant babies: These mutants are annoying in groups as if they all charge at you, you can take a lot of damage if it’s only one, then its easy to kill it.
Their attacks: Leap attack

Animals you will find
These are the animals you will find in the forest and where to find them and what you get from them.
Bats: these bats will most likely scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of you when you walk through a cave.
Can be killed but drop nothing.
Birds + Geese: Birds can be found anywhere and can be attracted with a birdhouse.
Birds drop 1 small meat and 3 feathers.
Seagulls drop: 1 Small meat, 4 feathers, and its head
Geese: 2 Generic Meat, 5 feathers, and 1 goose head
Deer: These can be found in Dense forests, central and southern parts of the island.
Deer Drop: 4 meat, 1 deer skin, and 1 deer head
( a good way to kill them is 1 hit with the spear)
Fish: can be found in the ocean, rivers, ponds or in cave water. you can kill them with dynamite, arrows, and spears.
Fish Drop: 1 fish meat.
Rabbits: They can be found almost everywhere on the map and will get one hit by every weapon
Rabbits Drop 1 Rabbit meat, 1 Rabbit fur, and 1 rabbit head.
Oysters: They can be found on the ocean floor
Drop nothing, you can eat them.
Lizards: can be found almost everywhere on the map, and are slightly easy to kill.
They drop 1 lizard meat, 1 lizard skin, and 1 lizard head.
Raccoons: one of the rarest animals in the game and can mostly be found on a small island on the east side of the peninsula.
They drop: 2 generic meat, 1 raccoon skin, 1 raccoon head
Tips when killing a raccoon: Hit its dead body and there is about a 10% chance it drops soda cans or snacks
Squirrels: Can be found throughout areas covered in a large number of trees.
Drops: 1 Small Meat, 1 squirrel head.
Tortoise: can be found near ponds, lakes and The River.
Drops:1 Turtle Shell, 1 generic meat and 1 turtle head.
Turtles: they can be found along the beaches in large groups.
Drops: 2 Meat, 1 Turtle Shell, 1 Turtle Head.

Boars: This animal can be found in the central and northern parts of the island.
Drops: 4 meat, 1 boar skin, 1 Boar head
Crocodile: Can be found north of the main river.
Drops: 4 lizard skin, 4 meat, and 1 croc head.
Sharks: you can kill them but they will sink to the bottom of the ocean and you cannot loot them.

Poisonous berries and mushrooms are used to make poisonous arrows.
Berries and non-poisonous mushrooms are used to restore hunger and thirst.
Armor
Lizard Skin
This is the most basic armor you can get, it provides an armor rating of 10.
Stealth armor: Basically lizard skin but provides stealth. You can craft it with 15 leaves and 1 lizard skin and gives an armor rating of 20
Bone armor: The best kind of crafted armor you can get, you craft it with 6 bones and 3 cloth.
Provides an armor rating of 40.
Creepy armor: The best armor you can get in the game, you can only get them from mutants and provide a 150 armor rating
Warmsuit: This is used to stay warm in the snow area and at night or in the rain, it provides no armor but is useful anyway.
Its crafted with 1 raccoon skin, 4 boar skin 6 deer skin, 1 rabbit fur, 2 cloth and 2 rope.

There are a bunch of tools and weapons you will find in the game, and they are:

Stick bag = Allows you to carry 20 sticks | 2 Rope + 3 Cloth + 1 Rabbit Skin
Throwable Rock bag = Allows you to carry 25 small rocks | 1 Rope + 1 Rabbit skin
Quiver = Allows you to carry 50 arrows | 3 Rabbit fur + 1 Rope
Spear Bag = Allows you to carry 5 spears | 2 Boar Skin + 2 Deer Skin + 2 Cloth + 3 Rope
To upgrade your weapon you use Teeth, Tree Sap, Feathers, and Bottles.
I recommend using 15 feathers and 15 bottles for the best output of damage, speed, etc.
Stats, Hud Etc…
When playing you will be able to track many stats;
Fullness = This will track how hungry you are.
Hydration = This will Track your thirst
Health = This will track your health rating
Energy = This will go down after time and will determine how much stamina you have.
Stamina = This will track how much you can run, and do actions like swinging weapons.
Armor = This Will track your armor rating
Cold armor = Will Track your Cold armor
Stealth = Will Track your Stealth Rating.

Sanity = Determines your player’s sanity, doing actions like killing cannibals and eating them will lower your sanity, cutting off their limbs and being in caves also lower your sanity.
If your sanity is lower than 90% you can create effigies
To gain your sanity back you need to listen to music, sit down, sleep or eat fresh food.
Weight “Weight seems to have no beneficial effects on your character, but it does have to negate and limiting effects on other stats. For example, being overweight will impede and in some cases completely halt the progression of other stats like strength, and will greatly affect athleticism. “
Strength = The higher your Strength, the more damage you will do. E.G if your strength is 99 then you get +70.71% more damage
Athleticism = Raising it allows players to sprint, sprint swim, cut trees for longer and fight longer before stamina depletes
Calories = “Calories are stat and game mechanic that was fully implemented in v0.71. It has replaced the point system and it is designed to regulated weight and strength. As of v1.0, it is only used in Hard Survival Mode. “

There is also a few extra things you should know;
When you are covered in blood, you can get infected, and this lowers your stats (strength)
If a players temperature is too low, they will become cold which decreases energy faster or they could suffer from frost damage.
Adrenaline rush = Adrenaline rush is activated when a player’s health reaches the ‘grey zone’ because of an enemy hit. When adrenaline rush is activated, the player will receive half their missing stamina back over 1 second. It does, however, have a 2-minute delay after being triggered. The purpose of this is to provide the player with a ‘second chance’ to fight or run.
Tips with Building
when you place down a stick, rock or log holder, you will be able to change how it looks, if you press R on the blueprint it will extend the holder so it can hold more rocks/sticks/logs.
Small Log holder: 7 logs
Large Log holder: 12 logs

How to tame/be friendly with cannibals
way one: Red paint and Effigies.
This paint will make the cannibals kneel down infront of you, or back away from you.
However, the developers have made AI “fuzzy”, so some AI ignore certain game codes; like ignoring the red paint etc.
so if there is a large group of cannibals near you, only 1-2 will attack unless you are lucky 😉

Passive/Fearful:
“Red paint and Effigies can force neutrality and passive behavior between the player and mutants of every kind.
Passive/fearful behaviors include:
Backing away from an advancing player, but staying within sight
Kneeling before the player and bowing their head, briefly (2-4 seconds)
Kneeling before the player and starting a hum / chant (10-20 seconds, or until interrupted)”
Aggro/Dislikes:
“Little is known about Mutant hostility and may be based on each encounter. It has been speculated by the community that the following actions will increase hostilities:
Attacking mutants
Killing mutants, especially females in front of males
Walking too close to the mutants
Visiting specific parts of the map
Cutting down trees
Building large bases
Building fires, especially bonfires
Building Defensive Walls or Traps, especially on mutant patrol paths or bases”

If you choose to shut down the device, you will leave Timmy behind and you will unlock a secret artifact and 4 craftable decorations
The artifact is an “artifact ball” With 2 powers, The blue power is to force enemies away from the ball and red power will attract mutants until turned off
and the 4 decorations are “family buildings”
they are: Timmy standing, Timmy sitting, wife standing, wife sitting.
they are like armor racks but they are representing his family.
