Overview
The Incomplete Guide of WolfquestSo, previously, I made a guide for the old Wolfquest. I decided… hey why not make a guide for WQ3 that has pretty much everything you need? Of course, it’s incomplete so I’ll be updating it as much as possible!I’m also quite lazy so… we’ll see.As a side-note, the creation of this guide was before multiplayer so please excuse certain parts of the guide that may say “since it’s before multiplayer-” etc. I’m trying to go through all of these, so help is appreciated!Credits to the amazing Ookami/Haru for the guide cover! Visit her profile and request her hereAll art in the guide (except the art in the ‘introduction’ content) is made by Canis-Ferox[www.deviantart.com]. I take absolutely NO credit for her artwork.

This guide is going to be quite long eventually, so scroll down for a ‘table of contents’. You should be able to find everything!
In other words, this guide is completely fan-made and none of this is made by the Wolfquest Developer. All of the pack ranks are mostly made up and therefore not to be used as actual facts.
The hunting tactics are inspired by wolves hunting, however, they aren’t actual hunting tactics. Like I said, it’s all fan-made content. Please do not consider these real facts!
If you want to know more about wolves, go to Wolfquest’s OFFICIAL page[www.wolfquest.org] and go to their ‘Wolfopedia’. There you can learn real facts about wolves!
If you wish to see the table of contents, go to the right side of the screen and scroll until you find what you want!
Introduction to Singleplayer Mode
So, as forth, this guide is created before multiplayer has arrived. Therefore, we’re all stuck alone in WQ3. But never fear! I’m here to save the day with some fun things to do.
Though, this guide is not created for singeplayer mode but more for things to do when multiplayer comes out. So I apologize if my idea’s are a bit… well boring. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this little list of things to do.
Hunting Challenges
Alright, so, I realize singleplayer is insanely boring right now. So how about a little testing of your skills and what could do that better then hunting challenges?
Hopefully these challenges are challenging enough but if not, just tell me in the comments.
Hunt 2 elk in one run
Instead of just doing one elk hunt and using that carcass for a long amount of time, hunt 2 elk in one day without resting aside from stamina. Either a calf and a mother, or just two full-grown elk, try and hunt 2 elks without dying or needing to call off the hunt!
Hunt a large amount of rabbits and put it into a giant pile
I’ve seen a lot of people do this and it looks interesting enough. Hunt a bunch of rabbits, put them in a pile, then eat them! It’s easy enough seeing as… well they’re the easiest things to hunt and you don’t take damage from them. The real problem is keeping coyotes and foxes off the carcasses. A really fun challenge!
Hunt a moose calf
Moose (or meese if you will) are the hardest to hunt in the game as of right now. However, meese calf are about the damage of adult female elk. Try and hunt a meese calf and see if you die or not! The mother is the real challenge, so be careful.
Try to manage killing an adult moose
One of the hardest challenges in WQ3 I must say. Strong and fast, it’s impossible to kill them on your own. But with a mate, you might just manage to pull it off. I’d love to see who would manage it! It’s surprising I have the amount of audacity to put this challenge in here, thus the fact I’ve never killed one myself.
Kill a bear
Not exactly a ‘hunting’ challenge, but bears are nevertheless strong. Manage to kill a bear cub or just a full-grown bear and I’ll be impressed either way! This is really hard so be careful, you might die either from the cub or from the mother itself…
Hunting Introduction
This is more or less an introduction to hunting. Now, hunting in Wolfquest is simple when you’re on singleplayer. However, it’ll be much worse in multiplayer. Why? Let me explain.
There are often ‘noob’ players (not quite sure how to describe them, but I’m sure you know what I mean) and as you know… they don’t listen to anyone. Either smaller kids not allowed to chat or someone who doesn’t know your native language, they can sometimes be a bit annoying. They don’t follow hunting tactics, listen to you (or really anyone, in all honesty), or just downright don’t help.
However, it also makes things much easier. Hunting prey goes faster and there’s often enough food for everyone and less of a threat from other predators and wolves.
To avoid these types of players, getting people into private servers make things much easier. Slowly collect friends from other servers to get a popular server where you can hunt without worries. With that said, let’s continue into (my) fan-made hunting tactics!
Basic Hunting Tactics
Here are a list of my personal fan-made hunting tactics. A MASSIVE credit goes to my friend Takiji for the inspiration and help with the tactics.
These are merely basic tactics, and should be well-known with everyone in the pack. Before hunting always make sure people know basic tactics so the hunt goes smoothly without interruptions!
A wolf or two run beside the prey, growling and help them move in a certain direction. It is NOT for attack, only to move the prey. It’s mostly used if the elk is going near water or back towards the herd, since you have to be cautious to not get tumbled into the herd and get kicked by other elk. It’s also used with mule deer, as they are skittish and very fast.
All wolves (of all ranks) are allowed to attack as they want to or let the others finish the hunt. This is usually done without even saying so, but for order be careful to not go all-out before you get permission from the alpha.
When an alpha says “Rowan!” all wolves must back off the hunt as the alpha finishes off the kill. This happens most of the time, but sometimes pack members don’t know how to back off if the alpha doesn’t say so. It’s better to just back up from the elk instead of taking a chance, since it takes a while for the alpha to say “Rowan”.
One wolf runs beside the prey, not attacking, and when another needs stamina replaces the wolf’s place to continue hunting. Often, the wolf tends to bite every so often just to lessen the health. Commonly there are more then one wolf in the pack doing the ‘Shadow’ and both switch into place when a few wolves need to back off the hunt for stamina or food.
Difficult Hunting Tactics
Here are the more complicated tactics. If you’re unsure about these tactics, just ask and I’ll be sure to help!
These should be known by the higher pack ranks, though. They’re more complicated but easier for faster hunts. Practice these and you’ll get lots better!
Curl away from the prey and another replaces where you were biting from behind. Not usually needed if a large amount of the pack is hunting, but it’s still good just in case.
Curl around the prey and bite the shoulder from each side. If there is more then two wolves, get the others to bite beside each other on the legs. The best when you run out of stamina is to do ‘Shadow’ so the prey’s health goes down lower. It’s good to use when you’re hunting fast prey, too.
When the prey is at low health, circle around the prey growling until the alpha or a higher rank arrives to finish the kill. It’s a lot like Rowan, but should be done without anyone having to say “Rowan” at all. Try and make sure you do this naturally!
Wolves make a ‘circle’ around the prey and as another wolf chases the prey into the ‘circle’ all wolves attack. Difficult to get all the wolves in place and the elk may easily run out of the circle, but if done correctly it can be very very useful. Good to practice this, just in case!
Hunting
This won’t be much of a section due to the fact that this guide wasn’t made to offer hunting. If you want a good, detailed hunting guide, I’d recommend go looking at some of the better ones.
However, since I did do hunting tactics, I might as well skim over the basics of hunting.
Now, to start with, you should always go for normal sized elk. When you’re a beginner, you could easily die because of the mother protecting the calf. You need to use very good tactics to manage to get a calf and manage to have a decent amount of health.
Going for elk is pretty easy. I’d recommend going for the slowest one possible if you can find one. Sometimes, you don’t have time to be picky because if you have a mate the elk will start to run as soon as you get within their radius.
You can also go for Spike Elk, which is just a ‘teenager’ male elk. These have the health just more then a male mule deer. Luckily, they aren’t as fast. Do not go for the bull elk until you’re experienced. I cannot repeat this enough. Do. Not.
I recommend growling and circling around the elk first to get them running if they don’t move. If you’re going for a calf, you’re going to have to do this to frighten them off. You need to make the calf run as far from it’s mother as possible. When you do so, attack for as long as you can. The mother will soon come back though and you’ll need to start running again.
Mule deer are pretty easy, even killing the calf’s with the mother around is simple. What they make up for health is in their speed, so keep your stamina and use it wisely. Not many tips for this as like I said, they’re one of the easiest to kill.
I haven’t had many experiences with moose (or meese, if you will) so I can’t offer very much. Just go for the calf as always but still be careful. I recommend getting a mate before going for the calf though because the mother will be defensive. I’ll offer more tips on this when I get an experience with a full grown moose!
Feel free to offer your hunting tips in the comments and I’ll add them in.
The Best Prey
The biggest feature in WQ3 is of course, hunting! As a wolf, this is your job. However, depending on the situation you’re in will depend on what prey you should hunt and such.
If you have full stats (health, stamina, and sleep) hunting elk of any gender should be easy enough. You can pretty much hunt any prey you choose, as long as you’re careful (always) of the bigger prey animals, such as meese. (I refuse to say moose’s, fight me.)
If you’re on half health or a little bit above, a rabbit should do you fine if you just want to hunt something fast and go to sleep. If you wish to hunt something bigger, mule deer will do fine, but safer is the babies of elk and mule deer.
If you’re under half health, avoid hunting any larger prey animal’s. Finding carcasses is a fantastic way too! However, be careful; if there’s a bear or a pack of coyote’s (foxes aren’t as dangerous as either of those, in my opinion) either find a different carcass or simply try and sneak a few bites without getting hit.
If you’re close to death, bunnies only or carcasses. Hunting is completely out of the question. If you’re above or at half hunger, go to sleep before hunting again and try when you wake up. Sleep out of stranger wolves territory as well, to avoid being attacked.
Notes for Hunting
This is the end of the section for hunting. This includes tips and notes however, and if you wish to become better at hunting, read this!
To get the best result in hunts, practice on elk with your entire pack and show them the tactics. Practicing on other prey is recommended as well, just to get smooth hunts!
Pack’s always need hunting tactics, otherwise everything is a mess. Listen to tactics at all times and you’ll get a good experience. If you don’t… well it just makes everything less enjoyable!
When giving hunting tactics, make sure you’re patient and clear with your words. Otherwise, people won’t listen to you. If other’s don’t know, instead of mocking them, teach them and help them along. It’ll make everyone happy.
Pack Ranks Introduction
In real life, pack ranks keep order to the pack. Well, it’s the same with Wolfquest! To keep order within your pack, assign ranks to each wolf.
Instead of letting people choose their own ranks, you have to choose. It makes things more orderly. Choose who you think is best for the rank! All people have their cons and pros, and you have to make sure they line up with the rank you assign.
All Pack Ranks
Here is a simple list of all the pack ranks. Choose wisely which you assign! Some ranks are allowed to do much more then other ranks. Assign good ranks to whom you trust!
Can be an alpha of ANY gender and any looks. Mostly watches the hunts from afar and jumps in only when needed or to finish the kill altogether.
There can be more then one alpha, depending if an alpha is a mate with another wolf. Thus, becomes an Alpha Male and an Alpha Female.
Often an older wolf, watching over newer wolves and teaching them hunting tactics. They usually help hunting if other wolves don’t know basic tactics.
Obviously participates in all the hunts, no matter the age.
A warrior that oversees all the other warriors. This wolf ALWAYS starts the hunt (with the alpha’s permission) and often commands the tactics if the alpha isn’t around.
Oversees all the healing. Mostly solo hunts with JUST the Alpha Warrior to collect healing food.
One wolf carries a rabbit or some prey so when another needs emergency food,
the wolf drops the rabbit and continues to hunt as the other heals.
Often patrols the pack area and kills predators in the pack territory or if there’s predators near pups. Often is nicknamed a ‘Guard’ or ‘Body Guard’ as they sometimes protect certain wolves.
Normal patrols, watching around the pack area. VERY important to protect pups. Sometimes join into hunts if there are no pups to watch over.
One of the most important wolves; there can only be ONE and they are the one who always find hunts. They mostly join into hunts (sometimes they don’t) but they always get the first bite of the prey.
Thanks to Outcast Dragon for the edits on some of the ranks!
Pack Rank Notes
Here are some tips on how to properly assign ranks and explain ranks to other players.
To explain ranks, list out all of the ranks mentioned in this guide. Instead of letting someone pick a rank, tell them YOU will assign a rank and until you’re well trusted within the pack, you’ll be a lower rank.
For less chaos, new players should always be lower ranks until trusted and your friends and players you trust as the higher ranks. As the newer players prove themselves, it’ll make it easier to assign them ranks so you can really trust them.
Idea’s for ranks are also completely welcome in the comments!
Making Up A Story
So, out of pure boredom, I thought “Hey why not make a character while waiting for multiplayer?”. Now, this is just an idea that I thought was interesting because you’ll need a decent story before going into a pack. (Or if you’re a roleplayer, a good story will be needed too.)
My old WQ guide was on roleplaying and the characters you’d meet in roleplay, but I won’t really touch on that right now because it could change in WQ3. However, it’d be awesome to have a realistic server.
Why this idea, you might be asking? Well, I’ve seen the WQ server list. It’s horrifying the amount of roleplaying you’ll come across. So what’s something for non-roleplayers to do but also enjoy the realistic aspect of the game? Well really simple actually, just make a realistic server!
Okay, I’ll stop on that and get into the point of this section. So, making a story isn’t hard. Take inspiration from books, pictures, quotes, whatever! Stories are what make up your wolf character. Now, this doesn’t just count when you roleplay (as I’ve said at least 5,000 in the last paragraph), you can use it whenever you want! Singeplayer or Multiplayer, either way works. Plus, it keeps us busy for a while.
To make a decent story, you have to really think of it. Don’t think of a beginning or an end, merely think of a middle. For instance, you won’t say your wolf ends up dying. That’s just boring. Think of the middle of the story and work your way through! Plus, you won’t really need an end to your characters story if you’re just making it up for realism purposes.
For instance: Kiwi was a friendly, jumpy, worrying wolf with a sharp sense of anxiety. She was a wolfdog bred for hunting, so she was a ready-to-hunt type of wolf. She had also a sharp sense to speak her mind, which led her into lots of… well, drama. However, she’s loyal and always ready to fight when needed.
Okay so, that’s not much of an original story, but it’s really all I could come up with. Your character doesn’t have to be dramatic and have a soppy backstory to be a good character. As long as it’s a decent character, you shouldn’t have any issues with it.
The only reason I’m saying this is because I come across really edgy and really dramatic backstories. It gets irritating after a while, seeing so many “omg yeah he got abused” or “no no, MY wolf got half his body CHOPPED off! :D”. Like honestly.
So, don’t get too dramatic. Like everyone goes through hard times yeah yeah but you can have a decent story without getting edgy.
The Basics of Wolfquest
This guide, like I said multiple times, will become quite large eventually. After a while I decided, why not add more? This guide will host everything from hunting to mates, elk to insanely fast creatures of death that we call cougars, and more! Hopefully this’ll be useful. Like I said, I’m not a ‘pro’ at this game quite yet so if I’m incorrect at some points in this guide, feel free to correct me!
If you have anything to add to this section too, you’re free to do that as well. c’:
Killing Your First (2) Elk
So, as soon as you load into WQ3, the first challenge will be to kill 2 elk. This challenge is difficult for beginners, but if you’ve already played WQ3 or even the first WQ, you should be able to get the hang of it pretty easy.
I recommend taking about 2 days to finish this challenge, since as a beginner you might get killed if you try to kill 2 elk in a row. However, if you’re sure you can do it, then go for it! I recommend killing a calf and then killing its mother, as you usually have to weaken the mother to get to the calf. Pretty simple tactic!
This challenge might take a little while as an elk hunt can go for a long time, especially if a stranger pack interrupts your hunt. If this happens, abandon the hunt if you’re at low health. You won’t have time to kill the elk and chase the wolves away at the same time. If you’re weak, run from the pack and find a carcass or a rabbit to eat. Especially as a beginner, you have no chance of killing a pack with low health and without a mate. If it’s just one wolf and you have a bit of health, you might be able to keep the wolf away as you hunt, but it all depends.
After you manage to kill your first few elk, you can go onto finding your first mate!
Finding Your First Mate
Aww, the best part of Wolfquest. Choosing your first mate! This is a lot of fun, but sometimes people find it hard to find a mate. First, after your elk hunt, howl at the carcass multiple times before you go to sleep. When you do that, you’re likely to wake up to stranger wolves coming up to you.
If you don’t see a stranger wolf there when you wake up, it’s likely a fox or a coyote. Chase them off, eat a few times, and then howl again before you rest. Continue doing this until wolves find you! You’re likely to get them on the first try though. Just be very careful in stranger wolf territory. The last thing you need is to die finding a mate.
Once stranger wolves come up to you, feel free to choose depending on the pelt color! If one comes to your fancy, then start play-bowing to it and tail wagging. Isn’t love adorable?!
Okay, got a bit out of hand there. Anyway, once you manage to court your first mate, you’re there for life. (Or until you get sick of him on your trial and growl him off to find a better mate. Either way works.)
It’s pretty simple getting a mate, and quite fun to see how their personality is.
Hunting With Your New Mate
So, naturally, hunting will be easier with your mate! Personally, I think it’d be interesting to have a feature in singleplayer to be able to join a pack. However, as that’s not a feature yet I’ll have to make do with a mate!
I recommend going for harder kills now with a mate. Not only will it make things more interesting, but you also have a higher chance of getting the prey you’re hunting. For instance, you don’t really have a chance with some meese* on your own, but with a mate it’d be easier. So enjoy your time!
This section isn’t very long, I know. I’m lazy, don’t bully me.
* I’m so sorry I keep saying meese throughout this guide I can’t help myself. *
Exploring & Remembering Your Surroundings
The biggest feature in WQ3 is the foliage, nature, and creatures in it. Yellowstone is a very vast area, and Amethyst Mountain is no different. Though your map is useful, it’s still good to remember certain area’s, especially if you’re doing a more realistic approach to the game and not using the map/the territory markers.
Here’s a map of the game that has highlighted points of interest in which you might want to explore. Some are “secrets” (such as the Eduweb tent you may find on the map) and others are just interesting biomes.
I will list out each highlight and what they are. Also, a massive credit for Gameplay Tips Guides[gameplay.tips] for doing this first.
1 – A wolf skull
2 – (a.b.c) The Mysterious Tree’s
3 – Eduweb Tent
4 – Antlers Stack
B – Grass Field
C/D – Mountain Ponds
As of 7/31/2020, I’m going to try and explore the entire map of Amethyst Mountain and see all the secrets, as well as each biome and what they may hold. I will also try and note the amount of elk herds in each area that I find. If you find any interesting area’s, and things only certain biomes have. (Such as certain tree’s, bushes, etc.) If you have any interesting facts about this and have explored the map yourself, please comment to help me out! </3
Roleplay [?]
I’m not much of a roleplayer myself, though I am a “veteran”. I’ve been technically roleplaying for 3-4 years in WolfQuest alone, so I thought I’d give some tips even though I don’t do it at all anymore.
Of course, this is NOT a roleplay guide. I recommend looking at other guides (I will link some at the end for those interested) since I cannot list every needed thing in one simple section.
There are three aspects of roleplaying, and I will list them out for you: Character, Description, and Style. These are simple to learn once you get the hang of it, so read carefully to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Character
Your character (or wolf) is you put into a game, or at least partly. It’s absolutely impossible to not have at least the slightest point of your personality, since while writing, you’re bound to do whatever you think best as instinct. Your character has to be unique, and of course, there’s a point where it can’t get that different from other wolves. That’s how the game goes. But at least try to give your wolf certain traits that others don’t, just to be slightly original.
Description
Your description is what matters and what explains your wolf traits. For instance, simple and common ones are, shy, kind/caring, protective etc. Do what you think best!
Style
Your writing style consists of mostly pronouns and how you describe your roleplay. Example, She slowly padded to the river, drinking the cool water. Now, your style mostly comes down to a few things. Firstly, you must choose if you want to be first person or third person. (Writing with “I” or “She/He/They”) Secondly, choose which words you want to use mostly. This is really all your choice!
I hope this helped enough on roleplaying. Anything to add is appreciated!
Conclusion
Tips, critiques, or generally just anything to add on is much appreciated. This guide is still being updated, so patience when it’s due, but hopefully this can become successful after a while.
Also note that of course, this is merely a guide. You don’t have to listen to everything I say, just read through it and find the bits that suit you best. I’m just here to be helpful, so if some of what I say isn’t your cup of tea, so be it! Do whatever you find comfortable.
A huge thank you again to my fantastic friend Takaji (@SleepyShirmp on WQ3) for her creativity, kindness, and really good jokes for this guide. Wouldn’t be here without you!
