The Master Below, The Endless Paths (Level 15) Boss Fight (One of many strategies)

Overview

Someone suggested I turn my post into a quick guide strategy for the Master Below lvl 15 confrontation. I wrote it after reading many posts about the difficulty of the fight and questions on how to proceed with it, what level you should be etc. I beat in on hard difficulty at level 10 without any problems. I hope my (shared) experience can help avoid frustrations (we’ve all known gamer rage and regretted our tantrums later…) with a simple strategic walkthrough.

The Way To Proceed (this is a short guide)

So I read people thought the Adra Dragon was difficult. So I was surprised when I found her pretty easy with the strategy I used. I’ll let people know what I did, so if anyone has a hard time dealing with her then reading how I proceeded to utterly destrot her might help 🙂

I first went (after encountering the Adra Dragon and choosing the required dialogue options) and did the dragon’s quest but didn’t kill Falanroen, for which she was thankful (I would hope) and rewarded me with the Scale-Breaker Talent, It’s a good debuff and can help in defeating her. Once I got back I sneaked around her (on the far right, or towards the bottom of your screen and went towards her hoard (loot). Once I got close to the Xaurips combat was initiated, but they weren’t hostile yet (they only become hostile once the dragon makes contact with us, but getting to the xaurips takes her time).

Note: The Adragan took time following her and died further away… either out of sheer Aoe Damage or they didn’t follow the dragon at all and automatically died when I killed her. In any case, they weren’t even able to pull off any damage on my party.

I murder all the Xaurips by initating combat and by the time she arrives, they are all dead and my chanter has enough chants to summon a drake (it takes 5 chants). At this moment I use all my summons. The Horn and shadow figurines and then the wizard spell Essential Phantom (Awesome and poweful spell that has no time limit), which gives me total of 6 summons including the drake. I then position them in a circle around her and bring my tank around in back of her while keeping my party on the opposite side. Once that’s done I initiate combat with the drake who is on her side (to the west, my party to the south, my tank to the north with few summons spread about). When she starts attacking I unleash my most powerful Aoe spells with my casters (priest, druid and Wizard) and proceed with a mix of buffs/debuffs. (make sure to use the Scale-Breaker Talent right before your Most powerful Spells hit to maximise it’s usefulness).

(Make sure your chanter is far removed from the battle, doing damage with a powerful Ranged weapon. If the drake dies you can instantly summon another one, though my drake survived through the whole battle).

I use spells like Relentless storm, Plague of Insects, Hail Storm, Infestation of Maggots, Returning Storm, Blizzard with my Druid.

Wall of Force (right in front of my party), Malignant Cloud, Blast of Frost, Minoletta’s Concussive missiles, Expose Vulnerabilities (best cast before hitting with powerful spells), Fireball (though she is resistant to fire based attacks like other dragons, so watch out for that). Arduous Delay of Motion, Miasma of Dull-mindedness, Curse of Blackened sight with my Wizard.

Searing seal, Shining Beacon, Dire Blessing, Barbs of Condemnation, Despondent Blows etc. for my Priest. (note that I keep ALL my 5th level priest spells in order to use Revive the Fallen, on my big hitters, especially my main character which is a Cipher, and deals a lot of Dps melee damage with debuffs that buff him up). Really flexible to use that spell if something goes wrong.

**EDIT**: Although the spells I used worked well for me, I revised the description in my Cyclopedia regarding her resistances, which are as follows

DR: 28

Slash: 21

Burn: 35

Freeze: 21

Shock: 42 !!

So, most of the druid spells I used were heavily nerfed (especially the shock spells, go figure) when I used them… With that being the case, make sure to use Freeze and Corossive/earth spells when dishing out elemental damage to maximize your dps output!

**End Edit**

If I felt her attention was getting to close to my party I led whoever she was focused on away and went back to spamming her.

I managed to end her with only my tank being downed (I also had to revive my main character once, and still had other revive spells in reserve).

Make sure to pause with almost every spell in order to micro manage the battle well and make use of every second in order to deal ferocious damage. The battle took 10 minutes, this took about 40 minutes to write… So I hope it at least helps someone on this forum.

Lastly my party consisted of Dezrin (my main who is a cipher), Aloth, Eder, Durance, Kana and Havarias (cause that’s how I roll).

P.S. You absolutely need a druid and Healer to survive and deal good DPS damage.
