Overview
The newest Tyrant in the game. This guide will teach you to stand above the rest and dominate the battlefield!
Introduction
The Acrocanthosaurus is easily the fastest and most moveable tyrannt in the game. Playing him doesn´t seems to be hard, but it can really be if you don´t do it right. The Acrocanthosaurus has three types of attacking: First, his bite, which swallows humans in whole, really effective against lone humans infront of your nose. Second, the stomp, a 360° attack which launches humans (and smaller teammates) into the air. Pretty effective if you have to face multiple humans, or those who don´t like getting eaten. Watch out near to cliffs, thought, you might end up destroying your own team, whole. (Don´t worry, they´ll respawn, but they might be pissed off a bit.) Then, last but not least, even your footsteps can damage people! That said, you shouldn´t rely on them, since they aren´t really efficient in comparison. Enough off how to kill humans, that´s for later on in this guide.
Stats
Health: 2500
Stamina: Low, comparingly high for a tyrannt.
Jump: Can´t jump
Speed: Slow, comparingly fast for a tyrannt
Attacks: Bite (Left-click), Stomp (Right-click), Damage by feet (automatic while walking)
Roar: Regenerates health of nearby teammates (No use for yourself, but don´t be selfish, your teammates need every help they can get!)
Pros and Cons
Pros
-Faster than all other tyrannts
-Can easily kill humans and is hard to get killed by them
-Secondary has a bigger range than other tyrannts secondary
-More moveability than other tyrannts
-Much health
-Can heal teammates
Cons
-Can´t jump
-Is to big for some buildings
-Less health than every other tyrannt
-His attacks take more time than those of other tyrannts (except foot damage). Stomping is less fast then the swipe moves of the other tyrannts. He also eats much longer than other tyrannts do.
-Big target, an Acro can be seen really, really easily.
Playstyles
There are two main playstyles that a smart Acrocanthosaurus should combine to become the ultimate Predator. Or just go with one alone, that should work too.
The Jurassic Parker
Basicly, you go aggressivly right into the fight. This style can easily result in a giant chaos, but that is exactly what you need. This mode is easy, run into the human, eat one, stomp when the other come near enough, and move around the whole time so that you can evade them at least a bit. Make sure that no Scientists with Tranqs are around, and watch out for Pathfinders. Don´t worry if a Trapper nets your mouth, focus on running over the humans and stomping, if that happens. In fact, getting netted can even be helpful, if you just started eating a human, you´ll be able to stomp right after you get netted, instead of having to wait till the eat-animation finishes.
Most important thing about this Playstyle: Never do it if you are alone. You will need someone to help. Get some Raptors to follow you, those are really helpful. Don´t worry, they will likely either follow you or appear in the same area, if many humans are there. In fact, if you attack a group of humans, it´s likelly that a big amount of your teammates will join you in said attack.
As a part of this playstyle, you must also take care of your teammates, such as healing them with your roar occasionaly, or keeping Trappers away from netted dinosaurs (nothing keeps a Trapper better away from anything than a tyrannt blocking his way). This Playstile is easier if you got another tyrannt for help. If the other Tyrannt is a Spinosaurus or T.rex, you may sometimes have to help them out if a human attacks them from behind.
Suited skins for this playstyle:
At the point in time were I write this, just the default Acrocanthosaurus is available.
However, if you want to be effective, a red/reddish Skin will give you a small phsychological adventage, since humans relate red to danger, resulting in your enemys playing more carefull, taking less risk, which results in them more often running away, and since running humans are slower then running Acros….. Well. Nature and stuff. On the downside, thought, Acros with those skins are even more visible then other Acros.
The Hunter
This playstyle is safer then the other one. It´s simple. You use your environment to your advantage. Hide behind walls, hide when someone starts shooting at you, then eat him while he/she searches for you, grab one guy out of a group just to fastly dissapear…. Basicly, know the map better than the humans. You´ll be surprised how many kills you can get this way. As impressive as this playstyle sounds, as easy is he. Basicly, you just have to hide behind stuff, and then get the human by surprise while staying hippen till said surprise. This Playstyle is really effective against Pathfinders and Scientists with Tranqs, since they will try to follow you to finish their job, but can easily find themself again, inside your mouth. Really, hiding behind a container and then watching them (You can zoom out as Acro, put press crouch while doing so, otherwise your head may shake around like crazy) and eating them before they noticed that you didn´t ran off to the next carcass, already.
Downside, this can bring you into trouble if your enemy knows the map better then you do. My advice: Play some Free Roam matches (maybe selfhosted, if you don´t find a server with said map) to explore it, that´s surprisingly helpful.
Also, don´t waste your time on waiting for Trappers, Commandos and Pyros to follow you, that rarelly happens (in case of Trapper just if your enemy is either a Newbie or really dumb. Or a troll. Or bored of life.)
Oh, and keep in mind that you are really big, so don´t try to hide behind a bush or so.
A good skin for this playstyle would be a dark one, since those help you camouflage in Shadows, or Green ones, who bend in with foliage. You are no Oviraptor thought, Camouflage shouldn´t be your main concern.
Additional Tips
-Don´t try to bite through walls into places you can´t see! Your bite´s hitbox is to small, it´s really unlikelly that you get a human this way. On the other side, all humans can shoot you if your head is in the room!
-If you are low on health, don´t bother fighting, turn away and run! Best goal is a near, but not too near carcass. Watch out for foodcampers and following humans, thought.
-Work together with other dinosaurs! You are the only thing that keeps humans form grenading Spitters, Focussing on Predators, watching out for Flyers and dodging Carnos in the open!
How to counter Humans
There are 5 different human classes who you´ll have to fight against, in different ways. Some require skill and smart use of the environment to defend, others are basicly a walking free kill. Remember, you are a maybe a powerfull Theropod, but you aren´t unkillable! (Which should be obvious, based on the fact that arcievements like “Acro Hunter” and “Sic Semper” exist…) So, here you have 5 human classes who are currently in PCE, and how to kill them all.
Trapper
Oh, Trapper, the doom of every small class…….. And totally doomed if he has to fight against an Acro. If you meet a lone Trapper in the wild, he will either try to net your mouth and then run to the nearest building, or just run to the nearest building (or suicide). In case if you get netted, don´t worry, that´s what damaging feet and stomp are made for. If he misses or doesn´t shoots at all, run up to him and eat him. Don´t worry about his mines and Double Colts, both won´t do enough damage to harm you seriously on full health, and mines additionaly need some time to get activated, so they won´t help him anyways.
In groups, Trappers can be a pest, since they net you, leaving you alone with your stomp. That may doesn´t sound bad, but if all humans are camping on a high spot, you can´t damage them without your bite. Also, once you got netted, a Trapper will lose interest and start focussing on the dinosaurs who may support you.
Advice: Sometimes you can manage to dodge nets simply by looking away from the Trapper, or changing between crouch and Spacebar rapidly.
Pathfinder
These guys are a pain is the Musculus glutaeus maximus. Their shootgun is powerful, they rarelly miss a shot…. In fact, they are one of the few classes who 1v1 tyrannts occasionaly (with a chance of winning). He will be easier to get with the stomp than with the bite. However, it´s advised to use the Hunter-playstyle against him. If you are lucky, you can grab him with a bite, but for that you need to move really quickly. Oh, and you need a good aim, of course.
Also, watch out, really smart Pathfinder throw flares randomly, just attract tyrannts!
In groups, Pathfinders are just as Powerful. However, if they get attacked by other dinosaurs, they will focus less on you. Use that to eat his teammates.
Or attack him if he doesn´t pays attention.
Commando
These guys can be annoying, but are usually easy to kill. Their bullet is not that big of a Problem, so the grenades. Just like Trappers, Commandos are an easy meal, if you have full health.
Pyro
You won´t have many Problems with Pyros, either. They can´t hurt you that much, and their usuall Anti-tyrannt-strategy (Standing behind it´s butt and sawing/burning) makes them vulnerable to stomp.
In groups, they can be annoying since they have 3 ways to make you burn, which can be really dangerous if you are lowhealth, since the fire can kill you before you reach the corpse. Don´t complain thought, every dinosaur class burns the same, just like you.
Oh, and seemingly Pyro himself also burns.
What a burning irony, haha.
Okay, I stop. xD
Scientist
The Scientist is a special class.
She has two weapons which she can use in her primary slot.
While changeable weapons are quite common, most got skipped here because they aren´t that dangerous.
One is the Sniper Rifle. Not that dangerous, slightly annoying, a scientist with a Sniper Rifle is comparingly easy and safe to kill.
The other is the Tranq Rifle. This one is the most dangerous weapon, at least for you, in the whole game. It doesn´t does that much damage on health, but one shoot drains your stamina completly. This means, you can´t stomp or run. But it gets worse. More shoots and your screen will shake like a drunken elephant´s trunk. And more shoots, and you will die, even if you have a bunch of health left!
The only way to counter this, use the Hunter Playstyle. Or get an Oviraptor who pounces the scientist while she´s distracted with you.
In groups, this women is annoying no matter wich gun she uses to shoot you. With the Sniper Rifle, she can still shoot you if you are fleeing, sometimes even it you try to hide. If she uses the Tranq Rifle, or maybe even just the tranq gun, efficiently, paired with a Trapper netting your mouth, you can turn from “Dinosaur” into “Giantic target to shoot” in a matter of seconds! Really, this women is the main reason why it´s a bad idea to run into a human group all alone.
Additional note: Scientists sometimes use sensor mines, which mark you, resulting in making the Hunter strategy inefficient.
So, basicly, you have to kill the humans before they have time to kill you. Also, on maps with much foliage, don´t take the main path, but run across said foliage, as humans like to hide there.
Oh, and watch out for Carcass campers, those can get really annoying.
Conclusion
Thank you very much for reading this guide. I hope it helps you becoming a good Acro player, or at least a better one. I hope you liked it, if I forgot anything please tell me in the comments. I would like to thank my good friend Skorus for helping me with this guide and giving me Feedback while making it. Feel free to join the Oviraptor Legion here [link] or check out our other guides for classes like Oviraptor, Tupandactylus, Novaraptor, Spinosaurus, and likelly even more in the future!
So, I hope my guide was helpfull, now go off and be the best Acro on the island!
I said island, not crane, Acro.
Whatever. xD
