The Confines Of The Crown Guide

The Royal Trap Achievement Guide for The Confines Of The Crown

The Royal Trap Achievement Guide

Overview

I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS GUIDE UNLESS YOU ARE STRUGGLING TO GET A SPECIFIC ENDING. In a visual novel, this kind of guide can kill the fun you get out of the game so I suggest that you do NOT use it until you are seeking all of the achievements. This is a very simple guide that will instruct you on how to get the different endings and achievements for the game. They are intended to be spoiler-free, and will avoid going through the plot’s larger details and surprises.

The Non-Aligned

  • When asked by Dolores whose room you’d like to inspect, choose Duke Pherod’s. (This will prevent a Gaston or Nazagi alliance.)
  • When you arrive at the river, you will be given a choice between Callum or Oscar. Choose Oscar.
  • During the following conversation with Oscar, select “You’re like a brother to me.” (This should kill off the Oscar alliance.)
  • When you save Cassidy, choose “Protect Cassidy” and “Accuse Callum.” (This should kill a Callum alliance.)
  • When you think about whose help you’d like to receive help from in the dungeon, no one should come to help you regardless of who you pick.

Congrats! You should now have the Non-Aligned (Bad) Ending for The Royal Trap

Oscar’s Route and Endings

You can very easily get all three of these with not a lot of effort. Oscar’s route can be played either very differently along the way or can be selected as individual options at the very end. If things are not listed, they do not matter enough to change. This is not necessarily the ONLY way to get the different Oscar Endings, but I do know that this way will allow you get all the different endings by saving at a very obvious point in the story and reloading it when you finish one of the endings.

  • At the river, talk to Oscar.
  • In the following conversation, choose “What about Cassidy?”
  • In the dungeon, choose Oscar. You will now be on Oscar’s route.
  • In Chapter 5d, select “Send a message” and “You’re getting better” when Oscar returns to talk about his poetry.
  • In Chapter 6d, choose “Hug him” and “I can’t make that choice.”
  • In Chapter 7d, choose “I can’t let you die.”
  • After Duke Pherod intervenes, choose “Say Something.”

Now here’s where things will differ based on your ending.

Wisdom Paloma will offer you a boon.

  • Bad Ending: Oscar’s marriage to Cassidy -> Break his Heart.
  • Normal Ending: A Position for Myself -> Goodbye.
  • Happy Ending: A Position for Myself -> Propose Marriage.

Nazagi’s Route

To get a Nazagi’s Alliance:

  • When Dolores asks which room to inspect, choose Nazagi’s.
  • Admit to Nazagi that Dolores was bribed.
  • In the dungeon, choose Nazagi.

Nazagi’s Endings

For Nazagi’s Normal Ending:

  • In chapter 5c, Say “I was looking for poison.”
  • Say “I can’t tell you that.”
  • After Nazagi makes his move to get you out of the dungeon, tell him “That’s insane!”
  • When Nazagi tells you his hypothesis, say “It’s too unbelievable.”
  • Don’t try to tell a story.
  • Tell Nazagi that you think Dolores has enemies.
  • When Nazagi talks about his secret, tell him “You’ll manage eventually.”

From what I can tell, choosing literally ANY other option at any point will earn enough trust and friendship with him to continue to include you in his plans. I am not certain of this, but I know that you can be completely ignore the “nice” options until the conversation about his secret in 6c and STILL get the Happy Ending.

If Nazagi kicks you out of the room, you have the normal ending.
Otherwise, Nazagi will make you an offer. Tell him “This is sudden” for Nazagi’s Happy Ending or “This is wrong” for Nazagi’s Bad Ending.

Gaston’s Route

To get on Gaston’s Route:

  • Don’t wear the necklace. (You can also choose to wear the necklace but you must bribe Dolores with it later!!!)
  • When Dolores asks whose room you’d like to inspect, choose Gaston’s room.
  • In the dungeon, think about Gaston.

Gaston’s Endings

From what I can tell, the difference in Gaston’s endings comes from the one conversation you have with Cassidy in Chapter 7b.

For the Normal and Happy Ending:

  • Choose “What does your heart tell you?” in response to Cassidy’s question.
  • Choose “We could share” in response to Colette’s question.

For the Normal Ending, choose “Return with Oscar.”
For the Happy Ending, choose “Stay in Gwellinor.”

For the Bad Ending, you have to choose the option that is NOT “What does your heart tell you?” in response to Cassidy’s question. The wording of the option is a bit of a spoiler if you have not seen it yet, so I will not do the usual “What the choice is listed as” thing. Regardless, the other choice will lead to the Bad Ending.

Callum/Dolores Route

The differences between Callum and Dolores’ routes are probably the most subtle decisions in the game. The issue is that they both come from the 5a, 6a, and 7a chapters. Dolores will ask you a lot of questions here and it’s not very easy to tell what distinguishes between Callum and Dolores’ routes at first glance. Zig-zagging your responses to Dolores can confuse or kill off any chance of friendship with her, as I will highlight in the next section.

  • If you choose to talk to Callum at the river (something you cannot do on your first run), be supportive of him (I don’t know if insulting him prior will kill off the chance of Callum alliance.)
  • When you save Cassidy, choose “Let Callum explain.”
  • Afterwards, choose “Defend Callum.”
  • In the dungeon, choose either Callum, Cassidy, or Dolores.

For the sake of clarity, I have included both a larger scale guide to chapters 6a and 7a that will show you what choice branches where as well as a single list for each of the 5 endings so you can find the one you’re missing.

Callum’s Endings and Dolores’ Endings (Advanced)

I have managed to isolate a pattern that will allow you the greatest control over what endings you receive in Callum’s route by effectively putting the decision down to 3 moments: your response to Dolores regarding your relationship to Callum in 6a, who Cassidy should talk to in 7a, and the optional dialogue with Dolores if you chose Duke Pherod in the preceding decision.

  • In Chapter 6a, Defer to Cassidy when prompted.*
  • During your heart to heart with Dolores, she will comment on your relationship with Callum. Take note of this, below, as it changes which ending you will get from accepting Dolores’ offer in 7a.
  • Tell Dolores, “I wish things were different.”
  • When Callum and you are about to separate, Kiss him.
  • Accept Callum’s Offer.
  • Tell Dolores “It’s sad” that she doesn’t have friends.
  • In Chapter 7a, Cassidy will not know what to do. For Callum’s Happy Ending**, choose “Tell your parents.”
  • If you chose “Tell Duke Pherod,” Dolores will make you an offer. Tell her “I am tempted.”
  • Rejecting her offer will give you Callum’s Bad Ending.
  • Accepting Dolores’ offer will give you Dolores’ Happy Ending (if you chose “It is none of your business.”) or Dolores’ Bad Ending (if you chose “I am not interested in Callum.”)

*- If you Snark at Dolores in 6a and then follow the remaining instructions for Callum’s Happy Ending, you will instead receive Callum’s Normal Ending.
**- The exact wording of Callum’s Happy Ending will change depending on how you respond to Oscar in 6a. Both will earn you Callum’s Happy Ending but telling Oscar “I don’t want to lose you too” is much happier in tone.

Contributions, Sources, and Shout-Outs

Most of my initial testing, leads and information came from here[theroyaltrap.wikia.com], so I’d like to thank the Contributors to that wiki for posting that information as it while it isn’t as complete, clear, or as correct as it could have been at times it did help me to find a majority of the endings by pointing the right way. I’d like to think I’ve given more clear instructions for how to EARN the endings, while still allowing the players to be flexible and better plan when to save.

I’d also like to thank Hanako Games for both making the game and for giving me the clue I needed to find Callum’s new Normal Route.
