The Story Guide to Season 2

Notes: Vindictus has gone through several updates at this point, changing a lot of the key elements of the story. Because of this, it is impractical to go through every single element of plot in this game in case things change again. There will be some indepth plot mentioned, but some things will be glossed over or changed for readability. Also Season 2 episodes are LONG. While Season 1 has more than twice as many episodes, all of Season 2's Episodes are about as long as Season 1 Episode 8.
It should also be noted that originally, Season 2 took place concurrently with Season 1, and as such, had a new cast of characters* completing an alternate half of the story that makes up Season 1. This has been retconned since RISE to have any character that completes Season 1 enter a passage through time to return to the past to relive the events of Vindictus. Season 2 originally existed as if another mercenary within the Crimson Blades decided to leave to go to Malina and watch as the events played out from a new perspective. Now, because the same character is instead returning to a time shortly after the Season 1 story begins, Season 2 acts as a what if scenario where the player chose not to remain in Colhen... Yet the message is Destiny cannot be changed, and the cycle repeats. Ironically, this new framing matches what I had mistakenly assumed of Season 2 in its original form.
*(being Vella, Arisha, Lynn, and Hurk at least. Depending on region, some other characters were introduced prior to Season 3 as well).
Changelog: Aug 23 2021: Release Version 1.
April 30 2024: Slight changes for consistency. Correction on plot elements and the Destiny Stone. Language and editorial edits.

Preface
Long ago, a princess stood before an Ancient Kingdom bustling with life – homes glowing with the light of oil-burning torches, colorful bazaars stretched across the city square, and hardworking citizens crowded the streets. But for her love of a man, and her disdain for her tyrannical father, her life would never see hardship, but it was not to be.
The princess and her lover rebelled against the King, but the man was captured, and sentenced to execution. As the scythe of Executioner Pantheum swung down, the princess used the last of her magic to turn her lover to stone.
Grieving, and betrayed by her subordinates, she was made to drink a potion of death. The concoction was unable to temper her compassion, and while she no longer exists in life, in the twilight between life and death , a woman walks the desert.
A goddless race existed in the desert Kingdom. As the kingdom fell, they fled to distant lands. Some say they are plotting for the emergence of a god to take for their own.

Witches and heretics! The holy robes of the Pontiff's Court march on the castle! A young girl escapes with the body of a young boy. She cries over the body of her brother, whom she cared for very much.

Episode 1: Coffer Chaser
Exhausted from a hard battle with the Gnoll Chieftain, the Rookie stops by Colhen's Blacksmithy and runs into Shayla - a treasure hunter who has been staying in Colhen.
"You look like hell. Another sad soldier walking out of a fight... I don't want to tell you what to do, and I hope you don't think I'm trying to order you around, but... You ever think about getting out of here? Seeing the world? You don't seem like the kind of person that spends their life following orders. I don't see you as a Merc. It just doesn't make any sense. Am I wrong?"
The Rookie lets out an uncommitted response. Too tired to consider the offer properly.
"Maybe I can help you out. Maybe I know a place you can go to get away from the royals and the church... I used to run with a good crew, the Coffer Chasers. They're stationed in a town called Malina."
Shayla smiles and offers the Rookie a comforting touch on the shoulder.
"Look, I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your life. I just want you to know the world's got a lot more to offer than dead bodies and broken hearts. There's a ferry running to Malina at the docks. If you're thinking about boarding it, I'll send you along with a letter and a little job for the guild."

The Rookie arrives in Malina where they meet the members of the Coffer Chasers Guild, Tristan, Asher, and Esyllt. They also meet a hooded but small man named Miller begging to be allowed into the Coffer Chasers.
Tristan welcomes the Rookie to the Coffer Chasers, and is about to hand the Rookie their first commissioned job - finding the chief of Crescent Moon Island's magicians, when Miller snatches the contract, and rushes out. Tristan asks the rookie to go to the White Whale Inn to let the innkeeper know "Milo" had taken the contract and rushed off to Crescent Moon Island.
A young woman with a fierce disposition paces around the Inn.
"I swear to every god and goddess across this world, Milo-- Oh! Hi, were you needing a room? Sorry about that. It's my brother. He's, well, I can only assume he's getting up to no good..."

The Rookie explained to the innkeeper what Milo had done.
"He did WHAT?! I'm gonna grab that stupid spiky hair of his and tear his pointy little head right off of his shoulders!" The pleasant and courteous disposition disappeared in an instant, but nearly as quickly as it was gone, it returned, "Oh, um, sorry. I'll, uh, get your things put in your room. I'm sure that little troll is still in town. You just go about your day. Go take the entry test, or whatever it is Tristan is having you do."
Returning to Tristan, the Rookie is sent off to Crescent Moon Island as well, in search of treasures held by the native population of the island, the Jungle Trolls, a matriarchal coalition of magic using warriors.
During their escapades, the Rookie runs into Miller - or Milo, a young man who yearns for adventure, and despite being fairly capable, is not yet old enough to go on the dangerous excursions he seeks. Aiding him in his efforts, albeit somewhat half-heartedly and out of amusement, is a Druid known as Enzo. The Rookie also meets Finnec, the Constable of Melina, who is keeping Lazkum - a Lizardman - imprisoned for unknown crimes other than "being a beast". Finnec asks the Rookie if the Rookie is yet another fool seeking the "Destiny Stone", to which Lazkum appears to perk up, but the Rookie learns nothing more about this.

As the Rookie continues to journey to Crescent Moon Island, they learn of Kielu - a Jungle Troll who has taken over the tribe, and chased out any opposing Jungle Trolls. Kielu has somehow taken control of the God of the Trolls, Lakoria.
Returning to Melina, the Rookie learns that Tristan has gone missing. On a search mission, spear-headed (perhaps unwisely) by Milo, the Rookie returns to Crescent Moon Island, but the pair are attacked by Kielu, who summons a giant serpent to attack!
Fighting out of the gullet of the beast, and slaying Kielu, the Rookie has freed the Jungle Trolls, and they return to relatively peaceful ways. Meanwhile, Milo, who had managed to evade the fight, picks up a box.
"This... is Tristan's cigarette case right?"
Inside is a note:
Upon returning to Malina, the Rookie is asked to make a delivery to Colhen, where the Rookie is introduced to Kean - a stern young man in the occupation of the Royal Guard, and a young hooded woman traveling with him. The two request to go to Malina with the Rookie, where Kean reveals he may have information of where Tristan had gone.
"That object that you said broke from the Troll's staff - the skull with barnacles on it - you say the Troll was using it to control a giant snake? I think I have some clues to your boss's whereabouts. It's similar, but slightly different, and I think it holds the key to something very dangerous out at sea. This came from a crazed sailor, the sole survivor of a shipwreck that left him insane with fear. He spoke of an island made of dead ships, ruled by undead horrors and hypnotizing abominations from the depths. I would like to hire you to investigate this island of ships. A ship that I am after has gone missing in the Silent Sea."

The Rookie travels to the Ship Graveyard, which is overrun with Sirens and undead sailors. The Rookie even finds the core of the accursed magic that brings the undead back to life. Milo, befriending a siren, gets her to speak to the Rookie, and give some backstory to these accursed wrecks:
"It was only a short time ago. A beautiful human vessel came to us as my sisters and I sang. When it got close, everything went crazy! My sisters became wild, shrieking at the wind! Pirates and sailors rose from the dead! The great Mare grabbed something black and hurled it into the mother sea. Now my sisters don't sing. And when they do not sing, the devil awakens..."
The Rookie continues to explore the shipwrecks, and fights off a transformed Mare - the now Muckrot Monarch in hopes to find the Guild Leader. As the Rookie chased off the Siren, Tristan pops out from behind some wreckage. "Thanks for the help out there! I was about to skip out with this treasure when... BAM! Crazy octo-lady's coming in for a cuddle.Let's get back to town before one of these hags falls in love with me!"
Tristan returns to Malina, carrying a large amount of gold coins. Kean, against Tristan's wishes, takes the coins by decree of the Royal Family. Meanwhile, Milo comes to the Rookie's room at the Inn.
"I just got these strange letters! 'God is angry. We will all be punished.' and 'The Devil is awake. My sisters have lost the song of slumber.'" The Rookie heads off to Crescent Moon Island and The Ship Graveyard once more.
"You look like hell. Another sad soldier walking out of a fight... I don't want to tell you what to do, and I hope you don't think I'm trying to order you around, but... Inside is a note:
Hey dummies! I stumbled on to something big out here, but I don't
want anybody else gettin' hold of it before I do. I'm gonna leave some clues behind. Keep your eyes open and follow the storm.

Episode 2: Twilight Desert
While Kean's missing ship was found, the magical item he truly sought is still unaccounted for. The item might have fallen into the sea, driving the Sirens mad and waking the dead... but it must have floated away since then. The Rookie, with some help from Milo and Enzo, crafts a buoy, to be used to float on the current along with a tracking spell to find the item Kean is searching for. With help from the Sirens, the buoy is tracked to a vast desert.

Milo accompanies the Rookie to the Twilight Desert, unbeknownst to his sister, the inn-keeper Allyse. The town constable Finnec, hearing that the duo are going to the desert, demands they find old weapons from the Ancient Kingdom for him. While the two do find the weapons, they also find a Mask, seemingly depicting death.
After an encounter with some strange wraiths, the pair return to Malina with some Essence left behind by the ghostly figures. Enzo agrees to break it down in an attempt to allow the duo to communicate with the Reapers, but it will take some time.
Back in the Desert, still looking for Kean's mysterious item, the pair come across a red robed woman:
"...A human? Who are you? ... Hey, I'm asking you a question! Are you accompanying that girl with a bird?"
"-No we are not," Milo - who's eyes had glazed over - appears to snap to focus momentarily, "What are you doing here? It's dangerous!"
"I'm looking for someone. I've been searching so long... This place is not dangerous for me. You are the ones who should leave."
"We can help! We're the best at finding things!"
"...The girl with a bird is coming. I must go now." The red robed woman, as if a mirage in the desert heat, disappeared.
"Hey, stop! Stop! Argh, it's too late for me to go after her now." A woman with an adventurous spirit and a white bird perched on her shoulder rushes through. Annoyed, she tells the two adventurers to stay out of her way.
Enzo, managing to break down the essence, gives the melted essence to the Rookie and Milo. The pair return to the desert and approach a Reaper:
"...There was a great kingdom here. It spanned farther than the eagles fly. But the king's daughter... Princess? I must find...Find the traitor! How dare a bodyguard fall in love with her! He seeks her even now, but she is gone. Poisoned herself! That is the curse on him. Wander alone...until we find him. Heh heh...Kill him!"
The Grim Reapers were not after the duo, but hunting someone else... But in their singular driving motive, they mistook anyone who crossed their path as their target.
Milo realizes the Princess must be the woman in red. Infatuated with her, he rushes to Enzo for help. While the Druid is able to shed some light on the fallen Kingdom, and their Oracle Princess, Milo suddenly falls deathly pale, and collapses. The Rookie agrees to an errand for Enzo, going to Colhen with the Operating Detector - the buoy device used before. Enzo promising to heal Milo in exchange.
Back in Colhen, the Rookie finds a town in mourning. The young cadet, Ellis, had run into Ainle alone and was brutally killed. Saddened, but worried about Milo still, the rookie goes to Brynn. Brynn is shocked by the letter accompanying the device. Enzo wishes to modify this device to detect a god.
Upon returning to Malina, Milo appears to be acting better, although still obsessed with the Princess in red. The two head off into the desert, and find her again. This time Milo asks her how he can help.
"Find Alteron the Chief Priest. He is hiding somewhere, and is probably the one holding Havan. I think he may be hiding amongst the slaves."
"Slaves?"
"Lizards and Rats. That's where he will be, among them. After we find Havan, I'm going to restore my kingdom... With Havan by my side."
The pair, eager to understand more, hatch a plan with the Hooded woman who accompanied Kean to rescue the Lizardman, Lazkum. In attempting to do so, they are apprehended by Finnec, the town constable who had imprisoned the Lizardman. He makes to arrest everyone, when the robed woman removes her hood.... Revealing a woman with raven black hair.
"My name is Seanna. I'm an Oracle from the royal castle. I command you to stop immediately."
Lazkum in tow, the group returned to Enzo's hut. Lazkum explained his people escaped from the Twilight Desert in the night, after the Kingdom fell, and they were no longer enslaved.
"But we had no god. No future." Lazkum had forsaken his brethren when they began speaking of seeking a god. They had returned to their underground city without him, as he went on to Malina.
Milo and the Rookie return to the desert to the underground city, but find it devoid of Lizardmen. They do find a stray Ratman seeking treasures, but the city is otherwise deserted. In a hidden chamber, however, a great Reaper appeared. Alteron, the Chief Priest, still clung to the mortal plane.
Upon defeating Alteron, the Princess appeared. She, however, could not find Havan before...
"Iset! Show yourself!"
"...No! Stay away!" The Princess escaped again, as the woman with the bird burst into the room.
"Blast, I lost her again! Hey, we've met before! I'm Solair, a Coffer Chaser with Malina Guild. Why didn't you hold her? I've been trying to catch her."
The group returned to Malina, where Solair explains what she's been doing in the Desert for so long:
"I was looking for something. Do you know about the Death Mask by any chance? They were awful things they put on male traitors. I think that girl Iset knows something about the mask. I've been chasing after her for days with no luck. Turns out the guy Iset is looking for, Havan, was the last traitor they used the mask on. I heard his soul is trapped in the mask. Iset probably wants it for some nasty purpose."
Tristan remarks "Y'know we already found the Death Mask."
"WHAT!? Where? Where is it?"
"It's right... Huh? It's gone! I left it right here!" The Mask and Milo were gone.
The Rookie and Solair go to Enzo to find out where Milo could have gone. The boy had come to the Druid's shack and taken the Operating Detector but didn't say where he was going. Enzo suggested they speak to the Oracle.
The Rookie and Solair speak with Seanna, the Black haired Oracle who accompanied Kean. While Seanna is initially unsure how she can help, she realizes she can precisely locate a temple where Iset will be. Solair and the Rookie rush to find Milo and Iset.
But it's too late. Iset, now in possession of the Death Mask summons Havan - who had become living stone! The Rookie battles fiercely, eventually taking down the monstrous Havan for good.

The Rookie, days later, goes to the Oasis. Iset is there.
"Hi there. Where's Milo? ...I see. He couldn't make it. I wanted to see him one last time." Iset hands the Rookie a Blue Erg Crystal and disappears.

Episode 3: Missing Each Other
Kean and Seanna are kicked out of the White Whale Inn by Allysse. It appears Seanna being an Oracle has caused some change of hospitality.
Kean has Seanna examine the Blue Crystal. She exclaims "It is very much like the ergs used by the Magicians of the Pontiff's Court but I do not sense the Goddess here..." He sends a report on these observations and the nature of the Blue Crystal to the Royal Army. He also takes on a new assignment to investigate a nearby mine that had failed to make a delivery while he awaits orders about the Blue Crystal. The Royal Army has entered war against the Fomors in Fobellow Prairie.

Investigating the mine on the Misty Summit, the pair find it full of automatonic Golems and Ergs. It was an erg mine. After several encounters with some Gremlins who appear to be working in the mines, but unable to communicate, Kean - confused what all this could mean - takes some of the Ergs to have them looked at in Rocheste.
Seanna is called back to Rocheste too, along with all Oracles by the Pontiff's Court. Meanwhile, Kean and the Rookie break into the Royal Storehouses to investigate the strange Ergs and compare them with those of the Pontiff's Court. They then have them examined by Jarlath at the Royal Magic Laboratory.
"You know the castle like the back of your hand! And all the patrol routes too! I thought you said you were from Colhen..."
While in the castle town, Seanna is kidnapped by Lizardmen who emerged from the sewer and dragged her below, where some form of ritual occurs, overseen by the Lizardman Shaman Ingkara. While Seanna is rescued, whatever sorcery they performed upon her has removed her recent memory, and she completely forgets Kean and the Rookie. The Blue Crystal has also disappeared from her possession, taken by the Lizardman Verafim.
Leaving Seanna in Rocheste, a heartbroken Kean and the Rookie go looking for Enzo and Lazkum. They learn that the druid and the Lizardman are in the Erg Mine and rush to find them. Upon finding them, Kean demands answers of them both.
What is the blue crystal?
Why did the Lizardmen abduct Seanna?
What on earth is this Erg mine?!
The ensuing talk had many startling revelations for the young knight: The Blue Crystal the Rookie had received from the Desert Princess, Iset was a Divine Erg. But not Divine through Morrighan, but a different God as Seanna had sensed. Kean's report had forced the Pontiff's Court to call for all the Oracles to get to Seanna and the Blue Crystal.
"Your Oracle's got the talents of a witch, but chose to worship Morrighan instead of the God of the Druids." Enzo explains, "This is why not only could she not sense Morrighan, but sense the God of the Druid's divinity instead."
Seanna's power comes from the God of the Druids, not Morrighan, which is why the goddess never spoke to her. Seanna, as such, could be considered a witch by the Court had she not devoted herself to the Goddess. She could tell the mine's ergs were indeed divine through the remnants of a god that wasn't the Goddess. And the Pontiff's Court was mining ergs from this mine up until it was overrun by Gremlins. If the dots were connected and it were to come to light that the Pontiff's magicians relied on the divine blessing of a god that was not Morrighan, there would be massive disruption to their absolute power. Unknown to the group at the time, the Lizardmen had abducted Seanna as part of a deal with the Pontiff's Court to cover up this connection.
"Seanna... A witch? The Inquisitors spilled blood in Taratha because they thought one of the royal family was a witch. They killed many royals, and the king abdicated the throne afterwards... To the Pontiff's Court. ...N-no, this can't be true..."
The pair return to the mines to seek answers but still cannot understand what the Gremlins are telling them, as they do not speak Fomorian. Milo, who had been comatose since his last visit to the Twilight Desert until now, wanders in on Kean and the Rookie's conversation, revealing he can speak the language. With Milo accompanying them, the trio enter the mines once more.
Seira, a guard Gremlin at the peak of the Misty Summit, talks to Milo who acts as interpreter for them. The Gremlin explains that Kean's brother, Cethe, had been attempting to resurrect the Gremlin's god in exchange for Erg Research - supposedly for the Pontiff's Court but perhaps, secretly, for the sake of exposing their conspiracies. Upon removing the remnant of the god's heart, the lab had sealed itself shut, with Cethe inside, and the Gremlins could no longer reach him.
Attempting to get into the sealed lab of Cethe, the Rookie and Kean discover a massive machine equipped with bombs, saws, and mechanical arms. Managing to destroy the guardian? er, honestly this is just some insane gremlin mining machine, but destroying that, they find a note addressed to Kean, "You are the Key."

Entering the lab, they are attacked by a massive mutated monster with mechanical legs - the Juggernaut. Whether the monster was a beast of Cethe's creation, or Cethe himself failing to ressurect the Gremlin god remains unknown.
Cethe's journal reveals that Cethe had witnessed the Pontiff's Court's Inquisitors execute the royal family members Male line (the King and the Prince), exposing the Witch hunt as a false premise to seize power. The king had never abdicated the throne. The king was dead. Cethe had made a shocking discovery though. Despite the false premise on behalf of the Inquisition, there was a witch. The Princess brought her brother back to life in secret.
Beyond that, the journal reveals the mine was not a mine, but the body of the god of the Gremlins itself.
"How would the Pontiff's Court react if a God who wasn't Morrighan was to appear?" the journal asks of Kean.
Idal, a messenger for the Pontiff's Court, holds in his hand a letter. He had overheard all the conversations. He knew what had been discovered, and he knew the Princess and the Prince were still alive. Yet he hesitated.
"Hey! Idal!"
"Solair, what are you-" he gasps as a knife is pushed into his stomach.
"Wh-why did you...?"
"What am I supposed to do? You were acting pretty darn suspicious just now. Relax. I'm going to read this letter, and if there's nothing wrong with it, I'll get you a healer." She reads the letter. "Idal, Idal, Idal. I'm so sorry, but I won't be calling a healer for you."
"...You're sending...my report to the Pontiff... Aren't you? Why? The boy... Milo...practically worships you..."
"It's nothing personal. Business is business and I don't want to get on the wrong side of the Pontiff. Hey, you're awful quiet all of a sudden. You dead?"
---
Kean rushes into the White Whale Inn.
"You and Milo need to leave town," he tells Allyse, "Find somewhere safe and quiet. Do you understand what I'm telling you?"

Episode 4: Paradise of Nonbelievers - The Dawn Bringer
Allyse reveals that she and Milo are the last prince and princess of the kingdom of Taratha, hiding from the Pontiff's Court. She was not truly the heir to the throne, but rather someone taken in by the Royal Family. Milo on the other hand, is the lost King. The Pontiff's Court did not take control through the abdication by the King as had been believed, but rather in murdering the lineage, save but a child who had seemingly been brought back to life.
Kean, Lazkum, and the Rookie try to rescue Seanna and reach Rocheste by route of the Fobellow Prairie and the Rocheste Sewers.
They meet Verafim, the white robed Lizardman, in the sewers. Lazkum pleads with Verafim to let their quest for a god go, but the scheming Verafim calls Lazkum a coward. Unbeknownst to them, Verafim had performed Fomorian control on Naveen - a prophet from Colhen. The prophet turns out to be half-fomorian, and thus susceptible to Fomorian control. Verafim sends her off to Colhen smiling wickedly. "She will tell her Dark Brotherhood to rescue their heroic commander from the Ainle Catacombs. I have use for him yet..."
Sneaking into the city, the two manage to meet with Seanna, who recognizes them from her rescue, but nothing before that point. Additionally, they overhear a conversation with Blawynn about a troupe heading off into combat, only to .... possibly not exist. She seems confused, as if her memories had been tampered with. Before they can go to investigate, Seanna urges them to hide; Gwynn and Keaghan are being accused of treason. As she explains this, Keaghan appears near the window with Pontiff Laurys.
Keaghan, Former Commander of the Royal Army, appears to be on the run. He urgently asks the Pontiff by whose orders was he attacked and now a fugitive. The Pontiff reassures Keaghan that no such order came from him and tells Keaghan he must hide. As Keaghan leaves to the shadows, a soldier approaches the Pontiff.
"Soldier! What news of our operation in Malina?"
"The Inquisitor has been dispatched, your grace. I gave him the location of the inn."
"Good, good. Did you cover up Ulchas's grave as I asked? No corners cut?"
"Yes sir! No one will ever know."
"The Inquisitor continues to honor the Goddess, even in death... He will deserve a great monument when his work is done..." He dismisses the soldier and watches the man walk off, "Everything will fall into place soon enough. Especially when that accursed Destiny Stone is gone... Good King Laurys will cleanse this world of suffering."
Kean and the Rookie hurry back to Malina, but it's too late. In an attempt to kill the heretic witch, Grand Inquisitor Ulchas, bound to his pact, had already finished off Milo.
But Milo had died before. Cethe had seen it. Allysse as Enzo had guided her, learned Druid Magic in order to wish for her brother to return to life. However, Enzo is convinced Crom Cruaich The God of Death merely postponed his fate to die... once all those years ago, and again now. His body had been taken by the god before actually passing on.
Grieving, Allysse, Kean, and the Rookie follow Enzo the druid to Annwyn's entrance, which was opened by Cethe's experiments to implant a god within his own body. On their way there, Enzo describes how he lost his loved ones in the attack by the Pontiff's Court and how his people, the druids, were exterminated as heretics. He describes how he will use Destiny to usher in an era that destroys the present reality, and that in sacrificing the present, there may be a way to bargain for Milo's life from Crom Cruaich The God of Death. On their way, they spy an illusion of Milo and a large guardian creature. Lavasat.
Managing to take down the beast, Kean demands answers to the questions he has been mulling over since returning to Malina and corners Enzo. Why would the Pontiff's Court keep chasing after the exiled Prince and Princess if they were after the Destiny Stone? Unless... they had the Destiny Stone?
"No... We don't possess the stone... I am the stone..." Allysse replies.
"You don't... have the stone? You ARE the Destiny Stone?" Kean looks in disbelief.
"It's a misunderstanding of an old Druid's phrase. As we believe man came from stone, we call the one who can control Destiny and decide who is King the Destiny Stone." Enzo iterates, "However, the one who was to be King has been..." He glances at Milo's image.
"The boy was to be King?"
"Yes, but in a bid for power, the Pontiff's Court sought to execute him, and branded the Destiny Stone a witch and a heretic. They slew the druids, who serve Crom Cruaich during this holy crusade... Which is why he seeks your brother, because Milo is destined to be king. The God of Death is losing his power, those who worshiped him are all dead. The plan is to set a king upon the throne to spread the faith once more, and drive the pontiff out..."
Kean glares at Enzo, "I don't like this. You're the one who led us here, and overlooked the Inquisitor's apparent survival... you've hid facts from me until now... You are the last druid. Did you plan all of this for your god?? ... I will stay with Milo to ensure his soul stays safe. And I must remain alive for the sake of... her." He sits, while the rest head deeper to look for Milo's body.
Inside Burning Temple sits Cromm Cruaich, God of Death, whose power had been borrowed by Allysse, the Destiny Stone, to resurrect her brother when they were young after the attack by the Pontiff's Court.
Crom Cruaich explains he intends to use Milo's body as a vessel for his return to power in the mortal realm and that he intends to use the Destiny Stone's power as a sacrifice for this.
Enzo steps forward and proclaims himself a devout follower of The God of Death, seeking only power to offer the body of Allyse to Crom Cruaich, and is rewarded with the gods power. He attacks...
And defeated, Enzo whispers to Allysse...
"You... Chose the right... Champion."
Cromm Cruaich, annoyed at the Druid's failure, attacks the Rookie and Allyse.
As the God of Death falls, he exclaims: "Destiny has abandoned me!"
Milo is returned to life, and embraces his sister. Destiny. The one who holds the Destiny Stone would have control over their own Destiny, and defy Fate. It is Fate that Milo is to die. Only by postponing his death was Allyse able to save him. As the Goddess wills it, what choice do we have? But the Destiny Stone will not allow it.
Allysse disappears and is no more. Destiny has overwritten fate.
Overhead, a large black dragon flies past as another destiny is fulfilled.
Kean, Lazkum, and the Rookie try to rescue Seanna and reach Rocheste by route of the Fobellow Prairie and the Rocheste Sewers.

Epilogue
Back in Malina, the Rookie walks around confused. No one appears to recognize them. No one has heard of an Innkeeper named Allysse. The Coffee Chasers offer the Rookie a job.
The Rookie goes to the White Whale Inn one last time to make sure.
Milo is there.
"No one remembers me or sis. Or you. At least you remember me. That's something... He called himself the Dawn Bringer, huh? I think I finally get what Enzo and sis were talking about. If it wasn't for you... I would have become a slave to destiny. What a sight... the Destiny Stone refusing its destiny.
Would it have really been so bad if I became the king?
My sis wouldn't have disappeared, and maybe I wouldn't
be such a handful...
And instead we get this. No gods, no heroes...
I'm gonna find a way to get her back. I have all the time in the world.
Besides, I've come back from the dead twice! Whose gonna tell me no?
Take care, okay? We'll run into each other again down the road." And with that he's gone.
Back in Colhen, Kean speaks to the new Oracle, Seanna.
Exchanging pleasant conversation, as she leaves, his face breaks into sorrow and longing.
"'Those who believe in the Goddess will follow Her path.'
That's what she said.
None of us believed, but Seanna was right."
