Overview
Just a few begginer tips for things like fixing the lock on targeting and such. This is my first guide and my first gundam breaker but here’s what I have figured out so far.
Fixing the Targeting
Most important thing people are having problems with in this game is getting over the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible targeting system. So far I think I have found a general configuration that fixes the main issues.
Step 1: Use a controller
This game is just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ PC port of a PS4 game and it is obvious. All of the menus work better with a controller and I haven’t even dared to attempt the gameplay without one. I use an xbox 360 controller but whatever you have should work fine as long as it resembles a console controller.
Step 2: Turn off box lock-on
Go into settings in the home menu and turn off the option that makes it so that you auto-lock onto boxes. It gets annoying and can get you killed.
Step 3: Turn up that sensitivity
Like most games that use controllers, the starting camera sensitivity is just too low to play effectively. Stay in the settings menu and turn camera sensitivity up to whatever you think would be more comfortable. You cant change this mid-battle though so be careful with testing your limits.
Step 4: Get used to turning on and off the automatic lock-on
For me with an xbox 360 controller, this is keymapped to pressing in the right stick. This toggles the automatic lock on mode for targetting enemies. It is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating trying to run to an objective or your team’s parts bin when your camera keeps jerking around towards random mooks nearby you. when you aren’t actively seeking a fight, turn off the auto lock-on.
Inversely, make sure it is turned on when you are fighting otherwise you will end up not being able to hit the broad side of a barn.
Misc. Tips
Go fast and use the purple searcher frame:
I have personally found that a fast build with lots of boosters, thrust fuel, and movement speed is much more useful than trying to make a fighting build, at least early in the game. So much of the game is just moving from one objective area to another to try and destroy boxes or collect parts that it is usually more beneficial to have high mobility than actual combat damage in many cases. I used the speed frame for the higher base stats and then whatever parts I had to make me faster. You probably don’t have to go all-out to be effective, but make sure to take your speed and thruster fuel into consideration. The purple “searcher frame” has great base speed and health and is a must-use for all new players imho.
Super Fumina Tickets:
From what I understand, super fumina tickets, which are collected once a day from the optional DLC mission, are used for buying one piece of a mobile suit armor/weapon set in the library store instead of having to spend your gundam points on it. I was confused at first since it never really got explained properly, so I’m throwing that in this guide.
Use your suit’s abilities:
This is my first Gundam Breaker and I came into it thinking that it would be more like the hack ‘n slash games I was used to where your abilities are mostly secondary and aren’t super important.
I was wrong.
Your suit abilities are how you can deal a lot of damage and you want to spam them as much as possible. Also make sure to manage which abilities you have equipped because they actually matter and affect your play style a lot. I personally find the attack abilities that shoot missles/bazooka blasts and the abilities that upgrade your speed to be the best for how I play.
Difference between 1/144 and 1/100 sized parts:
There is no difference in their stats. The only difference is the physical size of the parts, so use whichever size or combination of sizes you think looks best, because it doesn’t really matter in gameplay terms as far as I can tell.
You can unlock more girls:
There are several waifu storylines to play through in New Gundam Breaker, they are all pretty much the same but they follow a different girl who helps you in every mission of her respective story. Once you beat most of Yui’s missions you unlock Ryouko’s story line. beating several of Iori’s missions will unlock Chinatsu’s story, and beating one entire girl’s story will unlock Shion’s storyline. You can unlock the secret girl Recoco if you complete every single other storyline.
Iori is best-girl:
There are several waifu storylines to play through in New Gundam Breaker, since the missions are intertwined with a Visual Novel style story, and in true VN style, there are plenty of girls to have fall in love with the generic Japanese-kid MC [See: previous tip, above]. Out of all the girls in this game though, Iori is by far the best one, and don’t forget it!
