Overview
Afraid of starting Pro? Worried about the village fight or the water room? Fear no more for I shall guide thou.
Getting started
When you’re reading this guide, you most likely completed Normal already. If not go ahead and beat it!
Before starting Pro Mode, make sure you beat Seperate Ways and unlock the armor for Ashley (Special 2 Costume).
If you feel like you are getting hit too often, even on normal mode, load up a savegame and practice two things:
1. Attack fishing: Get close to an enemy and wait for him to attack. Now step back so he doesn’t hit you. This is essential to conserve ammo, as you can now easily knife him (head or legs) or run past him.
2. Running blind: In RE4 enemies have lower accuracy, if they are not on-screen. For example the sewer part in the castle, where you first meet the Novistadors can be done easily, if you ran along side the walls and angle your camera, so that you don’t see the enemies.
Once you can do those two, Pro shouldn’t be that difficult!
General tips
In this section, I will list tips that you should always remember for an easier run
- Conserve ammo: You should already know that. Enemies drop less ammo in Pro, so make sure you conserve ammo by shooting enemies once in the legs or head and melee them afterwards
- You don’t need to kill every enemy, running past them is often the better solution.
- If enemies are running towards you and you shoot them in the legs, they will most likely drop on the floor. Use the time it takes them to get up and knife them
- Most enemies can be killed easily with the knife without getting up again. So feel free to knife enemies that are lying on the floor until they die.
- Don’t upgrade your starting weapons, you will get rid of them soon.
- Make sure you destroy all 15 blue medaillons on the farm and the graveyard. This will net you an upgraded version of the Punisher
- Memorize where the treasures are or buy a map
- Spend your money on bigger cases
- If you upgrade your weapons, focus on damage, you don’t need the other stats
- If you are concerned about your health, play until you get to the farm in 1-1. Chase the chickens until they drop 3-4 eggs, pick them up, save and reload your game. You can repeat this until your invetory is filled with eggs. I don’t think it is necessary, but if you decide to do it, go for Golden eggs (full heal) or at least brown eggs as they heal more than the white eggs. You can also fill your invetory with it and sell them on chapter 2-1.
- Don’t buy the TMP, it’s not worth it. Instead sell the ammo you find for some extra cash.
- Don’t waste your grenades on normal enemies. Using them during the right time will skip hard parts of the game.
- Ashley can tank enemies and prevent backstabs when using the Special 2 armor. Make use of it.
- If an enemy is pointing at you, you have enough time to just run past him
- Only use the shotgun, if you are surrounded and need some space.
Weapon recommendations:
Pistol: This will be your main weapon, so get used to the shot speed. Once you shot all 15 blue medaillons make sure to use the last few bullets in your pistol before selling it.
Use the Punisher until you get to the castle. There you can sell it for 15k and buy either the Red9 or the Blacktail. Which one you get is your choice, but against popular belief, I recommend the Blacktail.
The Blacktail has better starting damage (until upgrade 3) and takes two slots less than the Red9.
Shotgun: Use the one you get in the beginning until you get the Striker in 4-1. The Riot Shotgun doesn’t do better than the first version, so keep the money.
Sniper rifle: I recommend getting the Semi-auto rifle for two reasons. First, it deals more damage, without the special upgrade and you won’t upgrade it anyways, as you just need it for a few parts.
Second, it shoots faster, which will make your life much easier in times of danger.
Exploits
Let me start this chapter by saying: “Exploits are bad, mkay.”
The most important exploit in this game is the “Ditman Glitch“, which allows you to speed up most actions (including running) by 1,5x.
How to: Activating this glitch is very easy. Equip the Striker and aim with it. Before the red dot appears, go into your inventory and equip another weapon.
This glitch will be active until you get hit, video sequences appear (not all) or you open a door.
Skipping with the Ditman glitch:
Using the glitch you can skip some parts of the game, including:
4-2: The part where you have to get the dynamite.
How to: Activate the glitch and run up the stairs to the lever. Turn around and there should be a prompt to jump back down where the first set of stairs is. Aim so that you hit the left edge of the steel plattform down there and jump down. If done correctly you should be able to walk off the plattform without using height.
Didn’t get it the first try? Don’t worry, using the extra speed enemies will have a hard time hit you.
Once you did it, walk of the plattform and turn left. Run against the wall to gain some height and then turn around and walk over the abyss behind the boulder that you have to detonate. Once you are behind the boulder turn around and run against it, until you are back on the ground. (Leon will pop into position).
4-2: The fight against the two El Gigante
How to: Activate the glitch and run to your right, up the ladder and use the zipline. Now run back to the zipline and use it again, but this time it will shoot you out of the map. Now just run to the exit, the El Gigantes won’t trigger.. Very easy to do.
5-1: The first part of the island
How to: This is one of the hardest skips in the game. Once the chapter start, activate the glitch and instead of running to the base, go left to the little cliff with the 2 destroyable wooden boxes. Jump on the highest plattform on the right side and slowly turn around mashing the Action button. When done correctly you can run off the cliff without losing height. Keep walking straight and you should start gaining height. Do this for ~5 seconds, then turn around and walk until Leon pops back in place in the tunnle. Use the ladder there to get into the next section.
Activating the glitch:
Exploiting the enemy:
There are several spots where the enemy AI can be exploited. Those spots will be shown in the walkthrough section.
Partial Walkthrough Part 1
I won’t go through every single part in this walkthrough, only the important stuff!
Chapters:
1-1: You can run past all the enemies in the beginning, but I recommend to train to kill them (Shoot once, then knife).
The village fight: While this fight seems to be very hard, it’s actually one of the easiest fights! You don’t have to run around for 6 minutes (and maybe get hit). All you need is 1 pistol bullet and you will be able to get all the loot the normal enemies drop. To do this, run to the village, past the fire in the middle and go into the house on the right. Wait for the door to close, shot it once on the upper part, so you can see the enemies.
Now just stand in front of the crack and knife all the incoming enemies. You can even pick up the loot without opening the door!
After the enemies are gone, scavenge the village and get the shotgun
The Farm: Remember to shoot the blue medaillons and get some eggs, if you need to.
1-2: I recommend running through the first part, collecting the two stone thingies, without wasting bullets. Open the door and follow the path to the house. If the enemies are pointing at you, run up the ladder, if not, you might need to stun them. On top, open the chest to get the first half of the emblem. Now drop down and run up the hill to get the second.
If there are enemies, shoot them in the leg to make them drop from the bridge. On top of the hill, there might be a ganados with dynamite. Kill him or use the invincibilty frames when leaping over an obstacle to get past him.
Grab the second half of the emblem and drop down to the exit.
Later you will encounter more enemies with dynamite, which will kill their friends if you wait, or just shoot the dynamite.
Before the end of the chapter, you will have the chance to shoot some fishes in the little sewer section. If you think you have enough ammo do it and use them to heal or sell them.
1-3: In the beginning of the chapter you will face Dr. Salvador. Either run past him and the ganados behind him when he is revving up his chainsaw or use the shotgun to make him fall over and knife him. The money he drops isn’t that important.
On the village, you can skip every enemy, just run through.
When you entered the graveyard look up and destroy the birds nest for a free grenade. Don’t forget the medaillons.
You can skip all enemies in the swamp part (after the graveyard), which I recommend.
2-1: Once the chapter starts you will meet your first Las Plagas. Run past them or if you have enough ammo kill it for 5k.
Before you drop down at the end of the cliff, shoot the guy at the bottom in the watchtower.
After activating the lever to open the waterfall, run towards it and shoot once with the shotgun to make the enemies fall and run past them.
El Gigante: I highly recommend buying a rocket launcher for El Gigante! It only costs 30k which you should have and you won’t waste ammo.
Back at the graveyard run past the dogs (easier than it sounds) and get into the church.
2-2: In the beginning shoot the cart with the explosives once, this will net you some money and maybe ammo from the ganados.
If you are good at maneuvering you can skip the village map with Ashley, if not, kill all the enemies to prevent them hitting you.
Cabin fight: This is one of the harder parts of the game. I suggest destroying the wooden boards on the window where Luis stands and barricading the other windows. Now get on the upper floor and collect the grenades. Stand ~5/6th on top of the stairs and kill enemies when they are coming for you.
To finish this part you need 40 kills, so this might take some tries.
When you are standing correctly at the stairs, Luis won’t run upstairs and the ganados won’t use the ladders. If this doesn’t work you can also try to block Luis on the stairs. If all else fails, get on the back of the upper floor and periodically push the ladder behind you. Don’t be afraid to use grenades, but keep ~2-3 Incendiary grenades.
2-3: Take the right path. Knife the chains at the doors, you have enough time before El Gigante catches up to you, no need to shoot the boulders.
Grab the key in the second hut and run to the end. If you know how to dodge El Gigante, you can easily grab the loot in the huts, after he destroyed them.
On the lift, use the pistol to make the enemies in the other carts fall. The two enemies that jump your cart can easily be knifed or shot aswell.
Mendez: Once the fight starts throw an incendiary grenade at him. Once he recovered throw another and the first phase should be over. If you are low on grenades, grab the one to your right in the beginning of the fight
Switch to your shotgun when the second phase starts and get 2-3 hits on him, before he reaches you. Now throw a normal grenade at him, so he will fall on the ground and shoot him again to kill him before he gets up. Alternatively you can also use another incendiary grenade.
3-1:
Upgrade the Blacktails/Red9s Power whenever you can
Make sure to buy the Blacktail and the Semi-auto rifle and proceed to the part with the catapults. In the beginnign of the area, shoot the 2 cultists with the rfile and then run through to the gate you have to destroy. Now snipe (or shoot the red barrels) the catapults. making your way to the cannon lever. You don’t have to aggro the cultist with the mask there, but if you want to use your pistol.
Once the cannon is on the top floor all the enemies will vanish.
On the next map, where you have to swap the two swords, make Ashley wait on the bottom floor, she will block 2-3 enemies there. If you feel confident enough you can rush this part without shooting an enemy, but I recommend killing them all.
After the Luis cutscene, rush through to the room with the key you need and make Ashley wait at the door. Once you grab the key, enemies will spawn near her. Shoot the red barrel next to her for an easy kill and run back to the door.
The Blind Guardian: For an easy kill, run to the lever next to him and instead of activating it, turn around and shoot him in the back. After his animation you can land another hit. By doing this you can stunlock him for the entire fight, which should last about 5-6 bullets with the rifle.
The Water room: After entering the room turn right and run all the way down to the room where you activate the crank.
(If you want to be careful, you can kill 3 enemies (after the 4th, more enemies will spawn) and re-enter the area to reset the rest to their original position.)
Do so and run back to the crank. If there are enemies behind the door, push them back by pressing the open button twice. Dodge the attacks on the way or throw a flash grenade! Once you are at the lever throw another one (wait for the enemies stun animation to end) and use the crank yourself.
When the stairs are down, cultists with scythes will spawn. Shoot them once with your shotgun or make your way past them your own way. After the short sequence with Ashley pointing at the other cranks, restart from checkpoint to make the cultists despawn.
Protect Ashley with the rifle and your pistol, this part shouldn’t be hard and run to the now available door.
3-2: You can run through the sewers without hassle when you run with the camera against the wall, just be quick! If you are having trouble with this part, use your shotgun (or a grenade). You can one-shot the novistadors, when they are flying.
Use a hand grenade to get rid of the cultists during their ritual.
Partial Walkthrough part 2
MG cultist: Also easy, if you know how to. Make your way to the exit of the area to trigger the scene where he starts running away. If you are quick, you can hit him a few times with your rifle before he escapes to the staircases. Don’t chase him in there, instead drop down the balcony and enter the staircase from below. He will run back up, so shoot him down with your shotgun and finish him.
Fun fact: You can headshot (one-shot) him with a fully upgraded bolt action rifle shot!
Getting the emblem part: Another easy room, run up the stairs on the right in front of you. Shoot the enemy at the top with the shotgun and run past him to activate the switch. Now run into the room with the security button. After pressing it, open the door and go a few steps back so the RPG won’t hit you. Now run past them, get the emblem and get out.
If there are enemies in the door, after pressing the button, shoot them with the shotgun.
The Maze: Run through it, the dogs are slow to attack, you shouldn’t have a problem if you know the route.
3-3:
The dining room cage: Once the cage drops equip the shotgun and shoot the lock 3 times, open the door and escape the area without getting hit (easier than it sounds). You can also grab the trasure in the cage.
Before you grab the RPG, you can buy a bigger suitcase, so don’t drop any items!
3-4: While defending (the invulnerable) Ashley, feel free to use your rifle to get rid of the enemies, especially the two crossbow users that spawn left of you.
4-1:
Lava room: Run to the end and throw a flash bang on top of the fire thrower to get rid of it. Alternatively kill the enemies for the extra lot (not necessary at all) and shoot the chains to get rid of the fire thrower.
Make sure to get the free Butterfly and keep the ammo!
The King’s Grail: Take Ashley into the room where the Knights will spawn and make her wait in the middle. Use your rifle to quickly headshot all 3 and use a flash bang for the Plagas. You can do this during both waves.
If you aren’t fast enough with sniping, kite them behind Ashley or only kill two and kill the last one with normal weapons.
The enemies in front of the door, where you need the two grails, can be killed with a shotgun, a single grenade if you have some to spare or just be avoided by attack luring and running past them.
Insect Hive: Reaaaaly easy. Open the door without going through it and use your Butterfly to kill the Hive (Sell the Butterfly afterwards) Now activate the cutscene and run back, out of the room and jump out through the windows. The enemies won’t follow you, but will stuck. One shot them while they are flying
Two Blind Guardians: I advise to lure the first two enemies in front of you and knifing them, so you don’t alert the guards. After doing so use the RPG. It will kill one and allow you to snipe the other while he is stunned.
Verdugo: When you are into the sewer, buy the Striker (sell the shotgun) and buy another RPG. Once Verdugo spawns, run past him, use the cryo tank to stun him and kill him with the RPG, easy.
Primarily upgrade the Strikers Power. You only need one more RPG for the rest of the game, so feel free to buy the special upgrade for 100rounds, which will last till the end of your run.
4-2: Use the exploits to skip the boulder and the two El Gigantes.
Novistador cave: Activate the Striker glitch and run to the switches. If the Novistadors block the exits, stun them with a grenade (they will recover fast from a Striker shot). This took me a few tries, heal if you have to.
4-3: If you are having trouble with the two Salvadors, snipe the one on the top floor before entering the builing. Grab the key there and run to the exit.
Mine cart: Shotung+pistol, shouldn’t be hard.
4-4:
Statue room: Activate the statue, climb the ladder, jump on the first hand, turn around and throw a flash to get to the first lever. Pull it, jump to the other hand of the statue and run to the last lever. Took me 3 tries to get it.
Up the tower: Activate the Striker glitch to run to the elevator without having to deal with enemies. Once there, push the crates and use the Striker to get rid of anemies getting on the elevator. Try to shoot them off the elevator!
Salazar: Buy a RPG, shoot his eye with the Striker and RPG the ♥♥♥♥ out of him.
5-1: In the beginning either use the Striker glitch to skip the part or just use the glitch to activate and do the laser puzzle without having to kill enemies. If you want to visit the merchant in peace, save near him and reload your save.
Using the Striker glitch you can run through pretty much all of 5-1 without getting hit. By now you should have enough ammo to spare to kill whatever annoys you.
The Regenerados: After getting the key card, the first regenerados will great you, run past him. Back in the corridor attack fish the regenerados and run past him into the freezer. Rewrite your key card and attack fish/run past the last regenerados.
5-2:
Waste Disposal: Run to the first crate and lower the two doors on your way. Throw a grenade at the second Iron Maiden, push the crate and get out of the area before it regenerates.
Wrecking Ball: Park Ashley in front of the door the wrecking ball will open. Activate the switch and watch the cutscene as it will count towards the cooldown. Throw a flash grenade and activate the switch again. Do it one last time and escape the are.
Alternatively use the Striker to shoot the enemies into the lava pool.
Make Ashley wait and tell her to follow you again, this will make the regenerados open the door for you. Attack fish him to run past him and activate the button. You can make Ashley wait inside the door to keep the door open and the Striker glitch active. Now run to the second gate and wait for Ashley to open it. If the regenerados get too close, blast them with the Striker.
Truck: Shotgun+Pistol and kick, easy
5-3: Before getting to U3, buy a RPG
U3 Cage FIght: You can run past him all the time and activate the buttons. In the second cage, you can shoot the green lights without activating U3.
U3 Boss: Once he appears, hit him with the RPG (direct hit) and knife him once for an easy kill.
Krauser: Once again, pretty easy boss if you know how. He will attack you three times before you can kill him.
He will first ambush you, when you get into the house in the beginning. Stand left of the door and keep your knife ready. Once he destroys the door, knife his face. He will backflip and try to run to you again. One more attack with the knife and he will flee.
Second ambush, he will jump onto the ledge above you and throw a grenade. Shoot the grenade (much easier than it sounds) and wait for him to drop (he will always drop at the same spot). Be ready and knife his face to make him flee.
Final fight: You can either knife him during his attacks (aim for the legs) and then knife his head a few times to kill him OR if you have problems, grab the emblem, do the QTE and after that, run back to where the emblem was. Once again, do the QTE and run past him. He will backflip to where the emblem was into a dead end where he can’t escape. Knife until dead.
5-4: This mostly consist of running (Striker lgitch helps) or waiting for Mike if you are unsure. You should have enough health items by now.
JJ and the key card: This part can be a bit of a hassle. First snipe all the enemies you can see. When JJ appears, run back to the beginning where the enemies won’t disturb you and use the Striker to stunlock/kill him.
5-5:
Saddler: Shoot the eye on his left leg with the Striker. Shoot his big eye and then knife it. Now run towards the lever, but shoot the red barrel when Saddler is near it. Once again Striker+knife. Now get to the lever and use it to stun him and Striker+knife him again. Now go to the other side of the platform and use the other lever there to finish the fight.
Congrats, you are done
