Overview
A list of my top 20 Awesomenauts as of patch 2.8. A naut will be added every day until I am finished. May update to include new additions in new updates.
Introduction and rules
Hi, and welcome to my top 20 Awesomenauts as of patch 2.8. This will be updated with a naut every day until I have finished the list and may be updated to include nauts from later patches. Before we start, let’s get some rules out of the way.
1. DO NOT complain about where certain nauts are placed. They are placed according to my opinion and I will not change it just because you are sore that I put one of your favourite nauts too low. If you have an opinion, feel free to share it in the comments. Just don’t be an jerk about it.
2. This IS NOT a Tier List and will not be arranged and judged as such. I may be judging nauts on more than just their skill in a game(background, appearence e.t.c). I do not think it fair to group certain nauts together because every one is unique and good in a certain way.
3. If I missed out something then point it out and I may change the positions, but do not complain about it. All nauts have a lot of depth and different strategies so if I missed something out it is because I was not aware of it or didn’t think it made a big enough impact on the positioning.
Well, without further ado, onto the list!
No. 21 Skolldir
Skolldir
When I heard Honeydew, a member of the Yogscast which is one of my favourite gaming channels, was going to get his own character in game, I was excited to see what it would end up as. I had no doubt it would be a dwarf but I didn’t know it would end up as Skolldir. I know Skolldir is supposed to be a brawler type character but his slow speed and muscular body make him look like a tank. Skolldir is a naut that is supposed to get in the middle of the battle and deal massive damage to his enemies before quickly escaping. However you would think that with the capacity to deal so much damage he would have some form of escape such as a quick speed, like Ayla, or a move that would allow him to either keep his enemies away from him or give him the ability to get far away from them very fast. Nope! More often than actually making the enemies run away on low health, Skolldir is often the one running! He can deal loads of damage to a group of nauts or a single naut but when it is time to escape there is almost no chance of getting away alive. For a start, his slow speed means he can get easily killed by Ayla, Coco or any character that isn’t Clunk. You would think he would have plenty of health to make up for this like Clunk. Yet again, nope! His throw ability could possibly aid his escape but this requires you to be behind them meaning you could be losing hp from a turret or being backstabbed by a droid. Otherwise you end up just throwing the naut ahead of you, making their job even easier. Even if you throw the naut into a turret it won’t be hard for them to quickly get away from it and continue assaulting you. His other move, Earthquake has the ability to deal massive damage and DOT to crowds of enemies however this doesn’t aid with escape and can easily be dodged with a simple jump. The design is… ok I suppose but all the other characters have much more detail put into every part of them and Skolldir just looks like a big man in viking armour. The background behind him is one of the most generic I have ever seen. Even his normal punch attack seems lame when all the other nauts are shooting laser and stinging you with lightning tasers and whacking you with chains keeping their hands imprisoned. Overall I think Ronimo included him just to thank the Yogscast for increasing the public appeal for their game. He can deal a lot of damage and make it a lot easier on his teamates but more often than not the teamates are getting the kills, he does nothing to push past the turrets and he is constantly going back to his unique, two-seated drop pod.
No. 20 Yuri
Yuri
My main complaint about Yuri is the lack of skill required to play this guy. Yuri doesn’t really seem to specialize in any areas apart from being the first naut with the ability to constantly hover in the air. He is slow, has an average amount of health and his skills and attacks don’t really do much damage or give the enemy debuffs. But if there is one skill that is super-effective, overpowered and the bane of every naut, it is those DAMN MINES!!!! Because Yuri is pretty weak and not really good at anything, most players who play as him just hover in the same spot over a turret or in front of the drill and just spam mines. Occasionally they go back to base… to upgrade their mines in damage and longevity to the point that you have to sacrifice a naut just to get near to the damn flying monkey or the turret he is guarding. This just makes the game drag on and on making it extremely boring and tedious. His overpowered mines just ruin the entire game and the only way to fix this is to remake him completely with better abilities and NO STUPID OP MINES!!!! Once Ronimo has finished with the last Starstorm naut, I think they should look at the broken nauts and the ones noone plays as and then make them more appealing. Apart from the mines he has a simple laser that even with upgrades seems to not have enough range for me, and a time warp that can assist teamates and droids though not nearly enough as Voltar’s support healing bot. However I like his character, twisted background and the fact that he is based off the first man in space who was russian and aIso called Yuri. I like his manic character design and crazy voice which puts him above Skolldir for me. Add some better skills and main attack, get rid of those DAMN OP MINES OF DEATH and I might like him a lot more.
No. 19 Leon
Leon
What I don’t like about Leon is not his great moveset and french character, but his lack of contribution to the game itself. Leon is an assassin like character and is aimed at ambushing your enemies and killing them as quickly as possible. However he can not last long in a fight without another naut to assist him so often players playing as him take to ambushing players running away from battle on very low health, grab the enemy with their tounge and quickly take them down with a swift strike of their blade. I don’t mind kill stealers that much and knocking an annoying enemy such as Ayla out of the game can be useful even if only for a few seconds. Leon is a born assassin but has almost no pushing skills whatsoever, he rarely helps his team and I find that the upgrades for his AI Dummy are mostly useless. Even when the dummy can walk and attack most of the time nauts have already seem him cloaking and the AI dummy is so obvious even a 5yr old could identify it. Leon may be good at his job but it doesn’t help the game much at all. His tounge grab can be useful if upgraded with poison and lifesteal, his cloaking helps with ambushing though the AI Dummy may as well not be there at all and his quick knife makes him a great assassin. The problem is not a bad moveset, the problem is the uselessness of the moveset to the actual game. Leon himself has a pretty cool design and I especially like the mechanical arm. His story is a classic tale of a romantic rogue(except on alien planets of course) which I like. Overall, Leon is a great character, but I feel that his style of play isn’t really suited to the game. I really like Leon but he just needs more pushing capability or a way to better assist his team.
No. 18 Penny Fox
Penny Fox
Penny Fox was the second Starstorm naut to be added and is a scout like character with a hit and run type style. Just before I explain, remember that I am not saying she is bad, I have seen players get 15 kills to 0 deaths with her before. Although all of the Starstorm nauts except Skree are different and complicated in some way like Ted Mcpain with his machine gun/shotgun hybrid main attack, I find Penny’s playstyle to be the hardest to grasp. To be able to use her skills effectively she has to gather charges by dealing damage to enemies with her main attack which is a melee slash with her claw. Once she has the charges she is able to use 2 moves. Fox Pounce which is useful for quickly damaging enemies running away or escaping quickly. Her Fox Pounce knocks enemies back making it a great pushing tactic and crowd controller. The more charges, the more damage and range it has meaning 4 charges(the max) is very deadly. The area of effect makes it great for crowds of droids. Her second attack is an energy pulse which amplifies damage and yet again does more damage the more charges. Last of all she can jump 3 times(4 with movement upgrade) which is very useful for escaping tough situations. All these moves are great if used well though I just find it too annoying to constantly whack droids just so I can use my 2 special attacks. Though I usually like hit and run and harasser nauts, I struggle to get used to Penny’s style of play. Every other naut just has to wait for a cooldown to use their abilities though Penny is constantly forced to attack droids to use her abilities which makes me feel underpowered when playing her. All other nauts have no trouble using their abilities but Penny has to keep dealing damage with her normal attack to be able to use her powerful attacks. Another reason I like hit and run characters is because they are all ranged to some extent except Penny. Even her Fox Pounce requires you to get close to the enemy to hit them. My problem with Penny is you have to keep fighting to make your attacks worthwhile though her somewhat low health makes this pretty hard for me. Penny is brilliant if you are one of those people who can maintain your health while constantly keeping pressure on the enemy with your abilities but I am not one of those people. Her story however is one of the longest and pretty interesting explaining how she found the claw on her arm in the game. Overall she is a highly skilled character though she requires a lot of practice and skill to master.
No. 17 Voltar the Omniscient
Voltar
Keep in mind that I am not judging these nauts completely on power and skill alone. Voltar is probably the best support naut. Almost noone hates him because of his powerful healing skills like Healing Bot and his ability to handle himself in a single fight thanks to his drones. And I don’t hate Voltar either. He is a pretty powerful naut and was one of the most popular back when Awesomenauts was first released. My only problem with him is that I find him boring to play as. When I think of the nauts I have the most fun playing, Voltar doesn’t come to mind at all. Although he can handle himself in battle he can’t really do much unless he has good teamates to use his abilities on. When I have decent teamates though, I find it boring to constantly go around spamming my left click to heal my teamates, occasionally pressing E to deploy a heal bot. This style of gameplay just isn’t fun for me and feels monotonous every single game. Nothing really changes except the teamates your healing though I will admit I had a few fun moments playing him that were mostly with my friends. His story is great and makes me wonder more about the lore of Awesomenauts. What the hell are the Robot and AI Wars anyway? His German accent is one of the best parts of him as every word he says is hard to understand because it sounds like he is straining every part of the sentence. Overall I don’t have much to say about Voltar but he is a powerful naut and probably one of the best for beginners though eventually his monotonous style of play and lack of different strategies make him quite boring to play as.
No. 15 Clunk
Clunk
If I had to choose a most underrated naut it would probably be Clunk. All the characters, even Yuri and Skolldir, are slow but not literally snail slow like Clunk so not many people like playing as him. Even with movement upgrades this naut couldn’t outrun a SNARED enemy. It does make sense considering his massive size and the fact that he is made out of very tough metal but I still have plenty of fun playing Clunk, mainly because of how much of a tank he can become. He can get the highest health out of all the nauts(3800) meaning he can survive attacks like Ayla’s evil eye and Coco’s shock ball and still have plenty of health to keep on battling. And even after that he can regain some of his health by using a vacuum bite which steals health from the enemy. And with an upgrade he can even increase his MAX HEALTH every time he bites an enemy. Hell, he can even blow himself up to damage the enemy and barely lose any health. Clunk may be slow but he definitey has the shell of a snail as well meaning he may be ensnared and stopped by 2 enemy nauts whose most powerful attacks have just recharged but he can just shrug off the attack and go those last couple of steps to the turret. I mainly have fun with Clunk because your enemies can fire countless attack and attack at you and you will still be standing ready to unleash your explosive rage on their more puny and squishy bodies. However Clunk can be easily taken down by coordinated teams who can handicap him and quickly incapacitate him before he can even move. As well as that, Clunk’s style of play is very different from a lot of other nauts and requires a lot of practice to get used too. My last complaint is his background story which although slightly funny and explains his several attacks was uninteresting to me. I like Clunk a lot more than other people though he still isn’t one of my favourites.
No. 14 Derpl
Derpl
Derpl is another fairly underrated naut, however I like him quite a bit because he possesses the ability to turn into a turret-like mode where he can fire standard machine-gun-like bullets like a turret before he delivers a devestating nuke that can send entire teams running in the opposite direction. This unique ability of his is by far one of the most useful for defense. A Derpl parked in his turret mode on a turret is near impossible to get past despite how skilled you may be. Even if you do manage to destroy a turret, Derpl can possibly replace it entirely with enough skill although it will not be permanent due to the fact that you no longer have a normal turret shielding you from most attacks. Derpl in his turret mode is one of the most powerful forces to deal with in the entire game, with his turret fire able to do a decent amount of damage to ranged enemies and his nuke which will make close ranged enemies wary to get close to him. However, Derpl in his normal walking mode is much more underpowered than his turret mode, only able to do a small amount of damage by firing cats through a cannon at his foes. This creates a problem because Awesomenauts is the type of game where you move around a lot. Often left to defend bases and turrets, I sometimes get bored waiting for enemies to show up because they are going for the other turret which is reasonable considering what I mentioned earlier. If Derpl ever goes out of his turret mode it is just to walk to the next location where he will transform or to go get some quick health or upgrades. His character however is one of my favourites and one of the funniest to me. He will garble out unintelligible words which are translated by his Specialized Universal Secretary Interface (S.U.S.I.) and it will be translated to a small joke like “Mr. Zork, that’s highly inappropriate!”. His creative design and Biography make him one of the most creatve and fun nauts to play for me though I often find that is the only reason I want to play him. Nevertheless I find him a good all-around naut which lands him No.14 on this list.
No. 12 Sentry X-58
Sentry X-58
Sentry is the 3rd Starstorm naut to be added and is a support naut and massive crowd control. This naut is so badass he can shoot BLACK HOLES!!!! His main attack shoots mini black holes which stay in the same place for a short while making it hard to stay behind him. One of his special attacks can’t really be called an attack because it is an ability that allows Sentry to place Beacons anywhere he wishes and then teleport to it whenever he pleases. However if he gets hit by an enemy a 2/3 second cooldown is activated so he can not just teleport back right in the middle of battle. This ability is very useful for escaping enemies or getting to turrets being attacked very quickly making it very hard to kill him. His last attack allows him to absorb any damage taken while activating and throw the damage right back at the enemy in the form of a massive black hole of death that deals average or massive damage depending on how much damage you recieved while absorbing the enemies attacks. This makes it very easy to deal with a full team of nauts in close proximity which definitely makes him a naut to be afraid of. I do agree Sentry is one of the most dangerous nauts if someone experienced is playing him(hell, the number one player on the leaderboards most used naut is Sentry) however he just really isn’t my type of character. While he has more health than most nauts I still find myself taking more damage than dealing damage. The most I can do as Sentry is provide a small window of opportunity for my teamates before running back to base or to creeps because I lost most of my health. I have had a few good games with Sentry but mostly I end up against coordinated teams who know exactly how to wither down my health so they can go in for the kill. His story however is another long and detailed one and his hilarious ability to disguise himself as a phone box put him above a few nauts for me. Overall Sentry is an amazing naut and possibly one of the best but he just isn’t my naut.
No. 11 Scoop
Scoop
Scoop is the newest naut at this time of writing and is a paladin made of Jelly. This character is aimed towards beginers and new players of Awesomenauts. He definitely has a simple moveset that you can get used to very quickly. His main attack is a simple slash with his sword which alternates between slash(does more damage but only hits one enemy) and cleave(hits several enemies but does less damage). His other 2 attacks are one of the most killer combos when used together in the game so far. One of them is a simple hammer attack that flies for a short while, bounces off surfaces and stuns an enemy when it hits them. It is great for stopping fleeing enemies or providing a short amount of time for your own escape. The other attack is some healing bindings that damage enemies in an absurd area of range(I think it needs a nerf) and at the same time heals Scoop 300 hp. This combination makes him very hard to kill and kind of like a tank/cleric combination which makes him a very formidable foe. Scoop always seems to be the character that dies the least due to him being great at both crowd control and damaging a single enemy significantly. A single Scoop is often able to deal with an entire team of Awesomenauts when used right and although best used for defense is a decent pusher. All these skills make him great for newbies learning the aspects of the game and pros alike. Scoop is definitely a great naut however he isn’t the first naut I think of when I press the random button though I really enjoy playing as him. The concept of him and his story is one of the most imaginative I have seen and his playstyle is great. Overall, I can see why both newbies and pros find him a great naut though I don’t find him one of the most enjoyable nauts to play as myself.
No. 10 Coco
Coco
Coco, is probably the best zoner in the game and she is brutal when it comes to chasing enemies. She is hard to catch when she is running away because of her fast speed and I do very well with Coco. Her main attack is great for draining health despite its short range, her blaze is superb at stopping chasing enemies and quickly escaping and her shock ball is one of the most brutal and overpowered attacks in the game especially with the range and damage. It can even pass through EVERYTHING physical!!!! You are not even safe behind turrets. The shock ball is the one attack in the game that makes me say “Oh s**t” just before it hits me. So why is she No. 11. Because of her annoying voice. Her voice literally makes my ear bleed. The sound is so stupid and so full of stupid slang that doesn’t make any sense that it stupefies me as well. Her voice is the most distracting thing in a battle I have ever heard and it puts me off so much, I end up just as stupid as her sentences. In some cases I have even taken to turning off the awesome music just because her voice is putting me off. The simple fact that she is a premium announcer is bull. You would have to pay ME to make me listen to her constantly through a match. I don’t know how other people find it but I just simply find the game less enjoyable when her audio file is in it. I know it fits with her character and her boring lazy excuse for a story but I just can’t stand it. She would probably be one of my favourite 3 if her stupid voice and character was different due to her amazing skills in battle. However I just can’t put her any higher than the top ten because of her annoying siren voice.
No. 9 Ted Mcpain
Ted Mcpain
If I had to choose a naut I liked the character of the most, it would be Ted Mcpain. He is an awesome stereotype of an FPS video game character, with most of his upgrades being related to video games. Usually I hate stereotypical FPS characters due to my hate for a lot of the main FPS games but Ted Mcpain is an exception. Everything about him just seems to click together to make me like his character the most. His design is just plain awesome and further fits with his character type, he has the most catchy and the best(in my opinion) theme of all the Awesomenauts which gets me singing along to the chorus on the waiting screen and his story is brilliant and further advances the lore of the Awesomenauts universe. However in battle, I find him to be the average joe of the nauts and I can never really find a great playstyle or strategy for him. His shotgun/machine gun combo is very interesting and can be used for a variety of situations however I find it needs a bit more pushing power. I sometimes find him good for defending though with a few upgrades that makes his shotgun shoot mines and his airstrike drop health packs. However I only really do average with him and can’t really get used to his playstyle. He is great for keeping pressure and his amazing character put him over a lot of other nauts for me however I don’t like using him in battle much. This naut just managed to get in to the top ten.
No. 8 Vinnie And Spike
Vinnie and Spike
Vinnie and Spike are probably the best nauts for dealing an insane amount of damage then quickly escaping and their playstyle is often like an assassain. Able to quickly strike an enemy only to disappear before they can even strike back. This makes V&S one of the best nauts for keeping enemies on their toes. Their main bubble attack may only really be used to finish enemies, Vinnies other two skills are brilliant and have a clear purpose. The first is a spike dive, an attack that shoots you toward the enemy to release some devestating spikes. Spike dive does an insane amount of damage and often sends the enemy running back for health or killing them if they have lost some health earlier. This makes enemies very wary to run into battle if they have lost even the tiny bit of health so spike dive is great for pushing back enemies. If they do decide to fight back however you can quickly escape with a smoke screen that blinds enemies at first but can then be upgraded to silence them, increase your movement speed and even turn you and allies invisible. As well as that they have infinite jumps so they can quickly float out of reach. This means V&S rack up a lot of kills and rarely die. However I find that they don’t have much pushing power. V&S’s with a 15/0 death ratio sometimes lose because they just prolong the battle but do nothing to finish it. However this can be worked around if you have a great pushing team. I find his story alright though his character is excellent and Ronimo and TB obviously put a lot of work into V&S. Overall I find them very fun to play
and much better assassains than Leon so that puts V&S at No. 9.
No. 7 Lonestar
Lonestar
Lonestar was one of the first nauts to be added and has massive pushing power with his hyper bull. I find Lonestar one of the easiest playstyles to get used to, probably due to him being the first. He has a simple blaster attack with a small range that can do quite a lot of damage with a few upgrades though I rarely find myself upgrading it. As well as that he has massive damage dynamite which can easily deal make an enemy retreat. Last of all is the infamous hyper bull. The hyper bull charges forward pushing enemies backwards making pushing and defending easy tasks for lonestar. With a few upgrades it can even explode and deal damage making it the bane of anyone with low health. This simple playstyle is quite easy to get used to and I have a lot of fun assaulting turrets with my hyper bull. As well as the hyper bull being good for assaulting, it is also good for pushing away attacking and chasing enemies. This combined with the colossal damage dynamite means Lonestar can easily deal plenty of damage to turrets but never actually get scratched himself due to his speciality in close range. He isn’t really one of my favourite characters though his long story is brilliant. It is hard to find anything wrong with this naut and he was one of my favourite original nauts. Overall, Lonestar is a devestating, easy-to-learn naut with massive capability and he would easily end up being one of my original favourites.
No. 6 Admiral Swiggins
Admiral Swiggins
Admiral Swiggins used to be one of my least favourites. Despite his gentleman personality and British character, I never really liked him in battle. However now I see the power of his drop anchor attack. Within a second the swag squid can be on you with an anchor hook to pin you down before you can even blink. Limited mobility is one of the biggest killers in Awesomenauts and Swiggins excels at it. He has a simple melee attack which does average damage however this changes to a small damage ranged attack when your drop anchor is used. Swiggins can use his Anchor Hook to quickly pull himself towards you which can be deadly when used with anchor drop which latches on to the nearest enemy and stops them from moving to far away. This allows teamates to quickly kill them or you to finish the enemy off yourself. Even if they survive a massive blow will have been dealt which also makes him great for pushing. The only thing I can see wrong with him is that he is a hard character to get used to. His main attack change may be a bit confusing but when used correctly, Swiggins is devestating. I also find him to be one of the funniest characters with a great personality and character. Overall Swiggins may be hard to get used to but his funny character and devestating anchor make him No. 7 on my list.
No. 5 Ayla
Ayla
Ayla is the type of character that makes you mentally say “Oh ♥♥♥♥” when she appears on screen and for good reason. Ayla is in my opinion a WAY better brawler than Skolldir. She is able to deal devestating damage, is hard to kill and can quickly escape meaning you will come to despise her innocent looking face. I barely ever use the chain whack which is her main attack, I mostly use her rage mode. This mode is the bane of lone players. It makes her fast, does damage in an area and does massive damage then converts it into health. Unless you have some teamates nearby or have a powerful attack to make her flee you are as good as dead. Her evil eye is also a good finisher and puts off chasing enemies since the damage is more devestating the lower she is on health. Despite being powerful against lone nauts, she is also a big nuisance to several nauts as long as they aren’t a co-ordinated teams. Co-ordinated teams are her weakness because they can exploit the health she loses while in rage then quickly finish her off. More often than not though I am victorious with her. As well as her skill in battle, I love her because she is one of my favourite characters for several reasons. For a start her theme tune is AWESOME and makes me sing along to the awesome chorus. Also she has chains on her wrists and is still a formidable foe. It makes me wonder how much power she has when freed. She also just looks so innocent before she goes full exorcist and DESTROYS YOU. Overall Ayla has BRILLIANT CHARACTER and has devestating skills in battle though her only bad point is co-ordinated teams can give her a very bad day. And that puts Ayla at No. 6.
No. 5 Genji
Genji
Genji, in my opinion is the best support/assist character there is. In a lone battle he may not pose much of a threat, however with any friendly naut he will DOMINATE you. Starting off simple, he has a medium ranged butterfly shot, a move which shields his allies and a cocoon that temporarily traps enemies. It may not be much of a threat at the start but with a few upgrades he enhances these simple moves to the point of being overpowered. Butterfly shot? Ha, it would be so weak if not for the STORM EFFECT that can deal a great deal of damage in an area. Shield? Wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t heal enemies and increase max health like Clunk’s vacuum bite. Cocoon becomes your worst nightmare as it can LIFESTEAL, drop HEALING NECTAR for teamates and EXPLODE dealing damage in a massive area. Genji may start off as not much of a threat, but with the right upgrades you can make your allies tanks and reduce pro enemies to running cowards. He does take a bit of getting used too and usually requires a decent team to make his skills worthwhile but with enough practice Genji gets close to the power of the Grand Space Butterfly himself! Overall, awesome character design and unstoppable if used right, Genji gets No. 5 on my list.
No. 4 Raelynn
Raelynn
Raelynn is a naut who is very easy to get used to despite having powerful attacks that push your enemies backwards with fear. Within seconds Raelynn can destroy a single naut with a simple time rift/snipe combo. Raelynn feels like a sniper who goes onto the battlefield to make it easier to snipe them. Why? Well apart from her normal energy gun attack she has time rift which slows down enemies while quickly draining small chunks of their health and a snipe attack which takes a few seconds to heat up but does devestating damage when fired. This combo means she can handicap enemies and slowly drain their health before dealing a (usually finishing)powerful blast. Raelynn is literally a born soldier, able to destroy enemies before they can even blink. Like Ayla she is powerful against lone nauts, however less effective(not bad) against teams who can cause her to quickly retreat. This playstyle I find is one of the easiest to get used to and is much easier to understand than Ted Mcpains machine gun/shotgun dual weapon. Because of this, she is one of my favourites to use in battle and is often very enjoyable to play as. The one thing I think needs improvement is her story. As well as being quite short, I feel it is also cliche like her character making her one of the less interesting nauts. Overall Raelynn is one of my favourites to use in battle and is easy to get used to. However I feel like her character needs more improvement.
No. 3 Gnaw
Gnaw
Gnaw is the essence of chaos. His OP acid spit and annoying weedlings constantly keep enemies on their toes. What I like about Gnaw is the fact that there is almost no solid way to play him. Every match I play as him is different from the last. Sure people create their own strategies like using weedlings to farm creeps but the different varied ways you can help your team and win the game makes every game I play as Gnaw enjoyable. While most of the other nauts have one solid strategy and playstyle, e.g. Clunk as a tank, Derpl as defense or Lonestar as pusher, Gnaw can change from offense to defense in a few brief seconds. He can be a damage dealer, he can be a chaser, a harasser, a defender, a pusher and several others depending on how you want to play him. Almost all nauts fall into offensive or defensive and certain people like playing different nauts depending on how they affect the game. Gnaws acid spit is an offensive attack and his weedlings is a defensive attack. These 2 skills completely parallel each other as if to say “Offensive or defensive? Why not both?” Gnaw is a character anyone can just play and instantly adapt to because of all the different roles he can play. Gnaws story and character just serve to further support his randomness and craziness. Gnaw isn’t one of my favourites because he is the best pusher or defender. Gnaw isn’t one of my favourites because he is the best harasser or zoner. Gnaw is one of my favourites because he can simply be all of those at the same time.
No. 2 Froggy G
Froggy G
Froggy G, along with Clunk, I find to be one of the most underrated nauts. While he is great for beginners noone really likes playing him once they get used to the game. However I find Froggy G capable of dealing a devestating amount of damage in a short amount of time. This makes up for him having the lowest health of all the nauts by far. His low health means carelessness will often get you killed however when used right, Froggy G is barely scratched at all. Apart from his standard literal water gun he has a splash dash and a tornado attack. His splash dash is good for charging low on health enemies and useful for quickly “getting out of da hood” but can also deal a decent amount of damage and stun the enemy meaning it can become a pain for enemy nauts. His tornado can absolutely DESTROY the enemy, provided you can hit them. However with a simple upgrade the tornado can make Froggy G the tazmanian devil, able to move much faster than any other naut. These rapid attacks make Froggy G one of the fastest nauts and more than makes up for his low health because more often than not he is gone before you can get some payback. Since I usually like playing fast characters who barely get hit, Froggy G is one of my favourite nauts due to the massive threat he poses to enemy nauts health bars. Before you can even blink Froggy G is on you and before you can react, he is gone. This is not even taking into account his amazing character which I feel has the most thought and imagination put into it. How many other rapping gangsta frogs do you know of? I can never resist singing along to the Froggy G rap which is his theme. You can be sure this gangsta frog will destroy the battlefield WITH STYLE!!!!
No. 1 Skree
Skree
Unlike all the other nauts, I don’t know what I particuarly like or dislike about Skree. Is it his perfect combination of skills, is it that he has a chilled out atmosphere or is it because he is like Coco but not annoying? This is what I like about Skree. He is just easy for me to pick and play. No complicated strategies, no particular speciality, I just find him to be the naut I find the most fun playing. While all other nauts have one particular speciality or unique ability you have to adapt to, I can just play Skree without planning ahead or thinking too much about the actual game. His taser gun allows him to hit far away and invisible enemies meaning you don’t have to worry about aiming too much. His saw can just simply be thrown straight into the heat of combat to create or break up chaos between teams. And if all else fails he can just throw down a totem to block the enemies path. Skree is nothing special, he isn’t the most interesting or powerful naut however I find him being my favourite simply because he seems to be the most relaxed naut. Even his Jamacian theme seems to further prove my point. I usually find myself to be much better at games when I am having fun and Skree is the most fun to play as for me. He may not have the pushing power of Lonestar, he may not be the best at quickly finishing enemies like Leon and he may not be as varied and chaotic as Gnaw. Skree is simply my favourite for just being Skree.
