Translation Guide

Overview

This guide provides a quick and easy explanation of how to setup and do custom translations.

Setup

  1. Navigate to SteamsteamappscommonChroniconlocale
  2. Make a copy of the “EN” folder, rename it to something fitting your intended language.
  3. Open the new folder, locate the “data” file, and open this in a text editor of choice.
  4. Here you can change some parameters for the language, such as the name and alphabet used.
  5. For font_type, the following alphabets currently exist:
    “latin”, “chinese”, “cyrillic”, “japanese”
  6. It’s important that you set it correctly, or your text may be blank in the game.
  7. only_suffixes=”0″ can be set to “1” if you want to treat prefixes as suffixes. This is useful if the prefix changes depending on word gender, or if your language puts adjectives as suffixes, ie “green sword” would become “sword green”, like the Spanish “espada verde”.
  8. no_suffix_of_separator=”0″ can be set to “1” if your language do not do “sword of fire” and does “sword fire” instead. This simply tells the game to not try and put your translated “of” word before suffixes.

Testing

  1. Now navigate to C:Usersyour_usernameAppDataLocalChronicon
  2. Open “options.cfg” in a text editor.
  3. Locate the line that says:
    loc=”EN”
  4. Change “EN” to what you renamed the folder to in Step 2 of the Setup.
  5. The game will now load up everything from your new directory on launch!

Translating

Now that the Setup and Testing is done, you can begin translating, or copying in already translated files by someone else.

Important:
  • All files are plain text files and can be edited with any text editor.
  • They must be saved with an UTF-8 encoding and as a plain text file when edited.
  • Any file ending like .txt must be removed from the file name for it to work.
  • Only translate the text on the right side of = sign. The left side must remain unchanged!
  • Anything in CAPS is a keyword and will be replaced with either numbers or a word that you have translated elsewhere. Always keep the KEYWORDS, but you may of course place them anywhere you like in the sentence – even in multiple locations if that is deemed necessary.
General Guidelines:
  1. Please try and be as accurate as possible when translating, to remain true to the original intent.
  2. In the case of dialogue with jokes, puns, etc not everything will translate right, so feel free to be creative, while trying to keep to point 1.
  3. Do not use excessive profanity in your translations.
  4. Do not share translations containing hate speech, racism, excessive profanity, personal attacks, or anything else that violate the Steam User Guidelines.
  5. Please get in touch if anything shows up weird in your translations and I will do my best to provide support for your language!
