Introduction

What is this guide for?

After the recent changes with patch 1.0.0.2 of Gim Dawn I gathered some informations about the Treasure Troves.

This guide will contain all the information about Treasure Troves you need to make the decision: “Worth the hassle or not.”

Content of the guide

The following chapters list some of the goodies Treasure Troves can provide for you as well what it is needed to get hold of them.

After this very small theoretical introduction a section with all Treasure Troves in Grim Dawn follows. All Maps are listed in the order as you will encounter them during the story mode.

After a huge amount of maps we are done with the guide so far.

Why bother about Treasure Troves?

So why look out for Treasure Troves and bring the Dynamite to open them anyways?

As with patch 1.0.0.2 the Treasure Troves received a very valueable buff:

  • Treasure Troves can drop a rare crafting material like Tainted Brains, Ancient Hearts, Blood of Chthon or even Manticore Eyes. Dropchance in Ultimate seems to be about 80-85% (I did not count it excatly but you should not be expecting one every time)
  • Treasure Troves have a high drop chance of recipes (according to the patch notes) but it seems they only drop relic recipes (I got almost all my legendary relics from Treasure Troves) As far as I remember it seems to be an almost guaranteed relic recipe drop till you have all. No doubles will drop this way.
  • Treasure Troves drop a fair amount of Iron Bits. Roughly about 5.000 – 8.000 each or even more in lucky cases.
  • Treasure Troves of course can even drop Legendaries and more likely Epics. Maybe the one you are missing so long..

As you will see later in the map part most of the Treasure Troves can be found on or near popular farming routes so you will loose almost no time in your farm runs checking the right spots.

This way you will end up with more iron, more rare materials, more recipes (till a certain point) and more items than skipping by because you did not know the correct spots to look for.

What is needed?

So what do I need to get all the goodies?

First of all you need 1 Dynamite every time you want to open a Treasure Trove. You blow them open literally. So be sure you stack up on the Dynamite bevor running for Treasure Troves.

Where to get Dynamite?

You can craft it at the Black Legions Blacksmith in Homestead. It’s the easiest way to get hold of some Dynamite to start of:

  • 3 Dynamite will cost:
    • 5.000 iron bits
    • 1 Aether Shard
    • 1 Scavenged Plating
    • 1 Searing Ember

Do not fear the iron investment as the Treasure Troves will pay for themself anyways.

You can also find Dynamite on various spots in the game. Most prominent examples as being part of various nemesis routes:

  • Cronley’s Hideout
  • Hanneffy Mine
  • Four Hills Area
  • Staunton Mine
  • Inside Tyrant’s Hold
  • Fort Haron
  • Darkvale Gate
  • Fort Ikon Armory

So we have done alle the preparations to get started hunting some Treasure Troves.

You will look out for really big chests with an iron chain around it to hold all the stuff inside:

Hargate’s Laboratory

Ok this Treasure Troves is totally off. I almost forgot about it..

This one is found in the Hargate’s Laboratory dungeon which is unlocked by a quest getting Honored with Devil’s Crossing. The dungeon itself can be found on a small isle in the sea. You get there by a rowboat just left after exiting Devil’s Crossing.

The Treasure Trove has 3 spawn points

1 spawn point is located in the first level

2 spawn points are located in the second level

Arkovian Undercity

This Treasure Trove is the most spread one of all. But on the other hand it is hidden within the Arkovian Undercity, a very popular farm route for Moosilauke, the Undead Nemesis, or just for its own 4 heroes/bosses.

The Treasue Trove has 8 spawn points in total spread over all 3 levels of the Arkovian Undercity:

2 spawn points on the first level

5 spawn points on the second level

1 spawn point on the thrid level

Steps of Torment

Another one on a popular farm route: The Steps of Torment. Beside the Treasure Trove you can find Moosilauke, the Unded Nemesis, roaming in front of the gates or even behind them and one of the endgame considered dungeons which unlocks with the skeleton key.

The Treasure Trove has 6 spawn points before the gates you unlock with the skeleton key:

1 spawn point on the entry level of the Steps of Torment

1 spawn point in Pain, the second level

4 spawn points in Misery, the third level

Mountain Deeps

Another Treasure Trove found off the usual routes is in the Mountain Deeps. The Dungeon that connects Deadman’s Gulch with the area near Homestead.

The Treasure Trove has 3 spawn points. The cave is entered best from the Riftgate Prospector’s Trail

3 spawn points in the more upper part of the map

Tyrant’s Hold

This Treasure Trove is the farest from the next Riftgate. Usually I go for this if I do a Pine Barrens run MogaraOl’ BloodbriarUngoliaxBloodfeast to Tyrant’s Hold.

On the other hand there is a new blacksmith located in Tyrant’s Hold trading rare materials for random legendaries.

The Treasure Trove has 3 spawn points outside:

All 3 spawn points around Tyrant’s Hold

Ashen Waste

This Treasure Trove is found inside the first Chthonian Rift in Blood Grove. The Blood Grove itself aswell as the Ashen Waste are know hideouts for Benn’Jhar, the Chthonian Nemesis. So be sure to pick up the Treasure Trove if you are around.

The Treasure Trove has 4 spawn points:

4 spawn points centered around the boss area

Lost Tomb of the Damned

Another Treasure Trove in a hidden area: the Lost Tomb of the Damned. Accessible through an unlit torch in front of the boss room in the Tomb of Archon Barthollem you find the Lost Tomb of the Damend. This small dungeon is a nice finsh for a Order or Kymon nemesis run.

The Treasure Trove has only 1 spawn point:

Do not forget to kill the boss next to the spawn point at the shrine

The Forsaken Wastes

Another Chthonian rift and another Treasure Trove to pick up. In The Forsaken Wastes you may also find Benn’Jhar, the Chthonian nemesis.

Be sure to loot the Treasure Trove at one of this 5 spawn points:

5 spawn points before you enter Obsidian Throne

Bastion of Chaos

The last of the Treasure Troves is found in the last dungeon ingame: Bastion of Chaos. Just before you enter the enclosed dungeon with your skeleton key. You may also find Benn’Jhar, the Chthonian nemesis, inside.

The Treasure Trove has 5 spawn points in the first part of Bastion of Chaos:

all spawn points before the final dungeon

Closing words

I hope everybody finds the information useful and clear enough to use them in their own games.

I wish you best luck in Treasure Trove hunting..

Small Disclaimer

All of the information is gathered by myself through various runs in Ultimate difficulty. So it might not be all true for lower difficulty tiers. Especially the iron amounts and chance of a rare carfting material.

If I missed a spawn point so let me know it. For best results provide a screenshot with the camera facing north (default button: “numpad 2”)
