Trillion’s post-battle advance explained
Reason for this guide
After completing my first playthrough and wanting to dive further into the game, I found myself wanting to plan out how I’d handle the timer of Trillion destroying the underworld to make sure I wouldn’t get a game over before the later ending I’m aiming for. I found several people noting how much of the Underworld Trillion destroys in various circumstances, but nobody described how big the Underworld was for comparison. This guide will list both of these sets of information for easy reference, and some examples of why this information is useful.
Levels of the Underworld
The underworld is divided into 5 distinct levels, with gradually decreasing numbers of blocks. Each block has 10 points of resistance, the running total of resistance after each level is listed after it.
1st Level: Hell’s Gate (6 blocks) 60 Resistance
2nd Level: Arctic Ridge (6 blocks) 120 Resistance
3rd Level: Inferno Peak (5 blocks) 170 Resistance
4th level: Despair Fields (5 blocks) 220 Resistance
5th Level: Arcane Forest (4 blocks) 260 Resistance
This means that after Trillion has destroyed 260 Resistance, you get a game over.
Trillion Destruction Amounts
Several people have noted these numbers, but I’ve confirmed for myself, along with a caveat. Despite what the game claims, the amount of damage done to Trillion makes no difference, you can retreat immediately or knock off 200B HP first, he will still do the same amount of damage based on how the fight ends:
Trillion Form Change (fight automatically ends at certain HP values for this): 0 Resistance
Overlord is killed: 10 Resistance
Trillion crosses defensive line: 16 Resistance
Overlord retreats from battle: 22 Resistance
The caveat mentioned above is that Trillion will automatically stop his advance after he finishes off a given level of the Underworld. This means that if he’s destroyed 54 resistance, and then your current overlord retreats from battle, Trillion will only destroy 6 resistance, since that will be the end of the first level and he will automatically stop there. These stopping points (noted as the running Resistance totals above) must be taken into account if you are making any calculations.
Practical Examples
NOTE: This section may contain story spoilers. If you have not completed the game yet, just take the numbers above as saying you should always back off and let Trillion reach the defensive line rather than retreat if you’re done fighting him for the day, to ensure you have as much time as you can to work with.
As a first example, let’s try to figure out how early we could cause a game over via Trillion destroying the entire Underworld. Since a given Overlord can retreat twice before being forced to win or die, they can contriubute (22 + 22 + 10 = 54) resistance destroyed each, or less if they hit one of the stopping points noted above. Doing some calculations with these values[codepad.org], this would have Trillion destroy the underworld after the 6th Overlord’s second retreat, making Chapter 6 the earliest possible game over point even if you are deliberately wasting time.
Secondly, how long would it take for Trillion to destroy everything if we take the above advice to let Trillion always reach the defensive line instead of retreating? This means each Overlord at most contributes (16 + 16 + 10 = 42) resistane destroyed each. Some more calculations[codepad.org] show us that this would have Trillion destroy the Underworld after the 7th Overlord is defeated. This means if you want the game to continue to the 8th overlord or later, you will need to let some earlier overlords die on their first or second fight, so that there is still some Underworld left undevoured when it’s their turn.
