Modding guide for the Steam version of Fallout. Fix the bugs, play in High-Res and add exclusive FIXT content.
Purist (Vanilla Experience) or FIXT?
FIrst, download the all-in-one patch (around 200mb):

This Patch can be installed in 3 ways:
- Purist Experience (Vanilla): Include all fixes but don’t include any non-canon new content.
Integrated fixes:
- Official Interplay patches (1.1, 1.2)
- TeamX patches (1.2, 1.21, 1.3.5)
- Hi-Res patch.
- Nimrod’s Dialog Fixes (many text improvements).
- No Children Fix
- Cathedral Crash Fix
- robbforce text fixes
That’s the original Fallout 1 experience, patched for bugs and able to run in Hi-Res. This should works very well with amateur translation projects.
- Half-Purist Experience: All fixes above, and include some new content.
- “Purist Not Allowed” Experience: All fixes above and most of the new content.

How to install Fallout Ultimate Patch
- Execute the “Fallout_Fixt_alpha-7.1_FULL_CUSTOM.exe” installation file (don’t worry the patch is 100% secure and virus-free), and choose Next until it ask for path.
- Choose the correct Fallout installation folder placed in your Steam directory.

Choose your destiny…
- Now choose your way.
If you are Fallout’s veteran, choose Custom and select your flavoured installation. - Review the additional tasks and set the options you want. Please be careful to: “Delete current savegames? (Recommended to avoid crashes, compatibility issues)“. If that’s the first time you try to install this game, leave it checked and don’t worry, otherwise, if you want to maintain your old savegames, uncheck the option or try to install the more safe VANILLA patch.
When you finished, click on Next.
- Choose some other goodies and sweet things and click Next again.
- “Done“.
How to configure the Hi-Res Patch
After installing the patch you wanted, please follow these simple steps to properly set the game working in high resolution.
- Execute “f1_res_Config.exe” in Fallout folder
- Choose preferred configuration options like in the example below
N.B: in Windowed mode the game will be automatically setted to 640×480, but you can double the size selecting the option “Scaling X2“. (Warning: Enable X2 scaling sometimes can cause problems with the mouse pointer or random crashes)
Uncheck “Windowed” if you want to run the game in Full Screen. - Click on “ENABLE” to activate the HD patch. Text will change to: The Hi-Res Patch is Enabled.
- Click on “Done“.
Screen Settings
In Main Menu of the game, you can go on “Options > Screen Settings”, to change screen settings on-the-fly, or some other things like change the side bar art.
How to install the old VANILLA patch
If something goes wrong, please try the old Vanilla patch.
- Go to Fallout installation folder
{STEAM_DIR}steamappscommonFallout - Unzip archive content to the Fallout directory and overwrite all files.
