(Unabridged) Guide to Star-Heads/Special Prisoners [FINAL/DISCONTINUED] for BattleBlock Theater

(Unabridged) Guide to Star-Heads/Special Prisoners [FINAL/DISCONTINUED]

Overview

An exhaustive guide on everything concerning snazzy limited-edition Star-type heads/prisoners. Updated weekly (as soon as a new batch of prisoners is released)

Preface

Welcome!

About Star Heads: Star heads are a special category of prisoners that are released weekly (usually two per week) and are only available for a limited time. As soon as a new batch is released the previous week’s ones are retired. Some of them are unlocked by merely launching the game and waiting for the main menu to load while others are awarded for finishing the current Furbottom’s Feature (either solo or co-op). Many of them are quite unique: some are cameos from earlier Behemoth titles while others are commemorating the dates on which they are released. Some of them are even animated. There are 64 Star-heads in total, same as with other regular four categories.

Note that these prisoners are exempt from achievements and they will not count towards:

  • Nail File Cake
  • Jail Breaker
  • Social Butterfly
  • Freedom Hero

If you miss some of the star-heads due to their limited-time availability or you have just bought Battleblock Theater (and obviously missed quite a few of them) there are several ways for you to acquire them:

  • Trading with other players (either via Steam inventory trading or directly in-game).
Battleblock Theater trading subforum is here.
  • Buying them on Steam Community Market.
For your convenience I have included links to every prisoner’s market listings in their respective section (if applicable).
  • Waiting for them to be re-released.

After all sixty-four prisoners are released (estimated to happen between January and February 2015) their reissuing will begin. There is a possibility that some of them will be re-released even earlier. Not all prisoners will be getting an encore release- promotional prisoners released during the Steam Summer Sale 2014: Scuba Steve, Hatzilla and Lava Lamp will be exempt.

About newly-implemented ‘on pause’ feature/measure
: On July 18th Behemoth announced that newly-released prisoners will be unable to be bought or sold until the subsequent ones are released, in order to combat/minimize their massive duping on the Steam Community Market.
Said announcement can be found here.

Released Prisoners

Listed below are all currently available star-head prisoners. The guide will naturally be updated as new ‘performers’ are released.

The guide is up do date as of: Sunday, 25th January, 2015

Next update scheduled on: Friday, 30th January, 2015

N°01: Pluto

I’m not a planet. I’m a prisoner!

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: The only actual ‘star head’ among the Star Heads.

Availability period: Stock/starter prisoner. Available as soon as you boot up the
game for the first time.

Tradable/Marketable: No.

Behemoth blog announcement: N/A

There are no listings available for Pluto on the Steam Community Market.

N°02: Knight

Sorry, just the one; your other Knights are in another Castle. Crashers.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: The prisoner resembles one (and all) of the iconic Knights from Castle Crashers. Be it Red or Blue, you can emulate your favorite Knight by choosing an appropriate color and a fitting weapon/tool.

Availability period: The Knight will greet all players that own a copy of Castle Crashers on Steam as soon as they boot up BBT.

Tradable/Marketable: Formerly tradable/marketable but promptly patched to prevent abuse since this prisoner was solely meant as a thank you from Behemoth to those that bought Castle Crashers, I repeat, the Knight is not tradable/marketable anymore.

Listings for Knight on the Steam Community Market can be viewed here.

Our logo, our mascot, our inspiration. With slightly bigger eyes of course.

Inventory preview: [link]

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: A playable version of the fearsome Duck Shark!

Availability period: Was briefly (and accidentally) available to beta testers by the end of April (~25th-28th). Officially released on 15/05/14, discontinued on 23/05/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

N°05: Tiny Cyclops

All of the depth perception of the cyclopedians of myth, none of the grandeur.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: The tiniest cyclops on the market! Playing/performing as this fellow feels pretty unusual and you will probably be under a (false) impression that you are faster and have a smaller hitbox than other prisoners.

Availability period: Released on 23/05/14, discontinued on 30/05/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

Tradable/Marketable: Yes.

N°06: Paul

Evil never sleeps, and neither will you once you’ve signed up for the Platinum Paul Package. No refunds or cancellations accepted.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Paul is a dedicated diminutive fellow that makes sure Platinum Package subscribers get the highest-quality service.

Availability period: Certain individual(s) managed to obtain Paul illegitimately by unknown means and attempted to make profit by listing it on the market for exorbitant amounts. This prompted Paul’s release to the general public on 30/05/14. It was discontinued on 06/06/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

Tradable/Marketable: Yes.

Behemoth blog announcement: Gerard and Paul in BattleBlock Theater[blog.thebehemoth.com]

Listings for Paul on the Steam Community Market can be viewed here.

N°07: Gerard

Gerard’s opposable face is what separates him from lesser primates. He’d explain all of the advantages, but he doubts you could keep up.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Indispensable for those team arena celebratory high fives.

Availability period: Released on 30/05/2014, discontinued on 14/06/14. Obtained by completing the former Furbottom’s Features, WeLoveYou by FurryBottom1 (official Behemoth playlist) or Friendly Forest [Co-op] by KLJF22.

Availability period: Released on 06/06/14, discontinued on 13/06/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

N°09: The Dad

Don’t argue with The Dad or he’ll tell you what it was like when he was your age. He will also tell you to stop talking back to your mother, which is a bit creepy.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Cyclopean dads are the coolest!

*Note that a regular circle-head prisoner ‘Dad’ also exists:

Look this happens all the time. It just doesn’t get that much coverage in the media, but more common than you would think. Like blue ice.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Everything’s there in the above flavor text. Nothing more to add, really…

Availability period: Released on 13/06/2014, discontinued on 27/06/14. Obtained by completing the former Furbottom’s Features, Training Zone by Dinox13 or Friendly Forest [Co-op] by KLJF22.

N°11: Meebs

After losing his lightbulb eyes, Meebs was left to wander the planet blind. Until one day this walking sconce found his way onto a certain friendly boat.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: A fine ‘kimo-kawaii’ specimen.

Availability period: Was accidentally available for a very brief time during 13th of June, along with Peeps. Officially released on 20/06/14, discontinued on 27/06/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

Tradable/Marketable: Yes.

Behemoth blog announcement:

Listings for Meebs on the Steam Community Market can be viewed here.

N°12: Peeps

Ever since his first rollercoaster ride, Peeps has not been able to wipe that smile off of his face. Everybody thinks aliens are in search of resources or colonization. No no, rollercoasters. Currency of the future.

Inventory Preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: If all aliens are as happy-go-lucky as this one then I see no reason for us not to follow suit. Peeps was often mistaken by players with then still unreleased Alien prisoner.

Availability period: Was accidentally available for a very brief time during 13th of June, along with Meebs. Officially released on 20/06/14, discontinued on 27/06/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

Tradable/Marketable: Yes.

N°13: Scuba Steve

You might be wondering why he still dies when he jumps in water. May I direct you to the oxygen pack NOT mounted on his back?

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Oxygen pack was a pre-order exclusive that is no longer available.
No, not really.

Availability period: Was only available during the Steam Summer Sale 2014 (19th-30th of June) and could potentially be gained as an item drop from crafting a SSS’14 badge. It was of ‘common’ rarity so there was a high probability of obtaining one. About 200k of Scuba Steves were ‘crafted’ during the sale and that is the finite amount of them. The prisoner will not be re-released.

Tradable/Marketable: Yes.

We all know the power of hats.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Indeed, the preeminent power of hats cannot be denied.

Availability period: Was only available during the Steam Summer Sale 2014 (19th-30th of June) and could potentially be gained as an item drop from crafting a SSS’14 badge. It was a ‘rare’ tier drop so there was only a slight probability of obtaining one. About 20k of Hatzillas were ‘crafted’ during the sale and that is the finite amount of them. The prisoner will not be re-released.

Listings for Hatzilla on the Steam Community Market can be viewed here.

N°15: Lava Lamp

Being the embodiment of grooviness is almost worth having a head made out of glass. Almost.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: Being as groovy as inhumanly possible, Lava Lamp brings psychedelic flair onto the stage.
This prisoner head is animated: The colored wax inside the glass is constantly in motion.

Availability period: Was only available during the Steam Summer Sale 2014 (19th-30th of June) and could potentially be gained as an item drop from crafting a SSS’14 badge. It was an ultra-rare ‘precious’ drop so the chances of getting one were…microscopic. Only about 600 of Lava Lamps were ‘crafted’ during the sale and that is the finite amount of them. The prisoner will not be re-released.

Tradable/Marketable: Yes.

Not ever having to pay for optometrists, hair care products or nose-hair trimmers make up for most of the savings alone.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: A cautionary tale about Steam sales? Most likely. This very prisoner was destined to be released either during the summer or holiday sale.

Availability period: Released on 27/06/14, discontinued on 04/07/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

Sure, you could use him with the Grenade, but that’s a little on the nose, don’t you think? Try the flying disc instead; it is the gentlemen’s weapon of choice.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: A prisoner of choice for those harrowing finale and encore performances.
This prisoner head is animated: The fuse is lit and burning.

Availability period: Released on 04/07/14, discontinued on 11/07/14. Obtained by launching BBT within the given time frame.

Maybe if he’d kept up on his washing, we’d never know that he was from the swamps. Then again, a bro’s gotta represent. No really- if a bro ever stops representing, they die. Kinda puts all that boasting in perspective.

Paleontologists will tell you otherwise, but let’s face it: there is exactly zero difference between dinosaurs and monsters. What they call the “Mesozoic Era”, I call 180 million years of sheer terror.

N°61: Thief

The Thief’s archery ability will not score him a role in a feature film anytime soon. Though appearing in two games ain’t too shabby. Watch out though. He tends to take extra slices on pizza day.

Inventory preview: [link]

Notes on prisoner: BBT’s residential taffer, universally despised for his cheap, albeit efficient tactics in ranged combat.

Yet to be Released Prisoners

‘Avert your eyes, children. Avert them!’

This following content may prove a bit spoiler-ish, at least for those players that didn’t play/own an XBLA version of BBT and/or steered clear of Wikis and Behemoth blog announcements. Proceed at your own risk… or don’t. Not that I can stop you.

When their time comes, prisoners listed here will be lovingly moved to the ‘Released Prisoners’ part of the guide.

It’s a shame that there aren’t any of these left…

Closing Words

I eagerly await your comments, whether they are questions, typo reports or critique. I will try to respond to as many of them as I can.

Feel free to favorite this guide if you wish it to be your companion/reference during the joyful unlocking of star-head prisoners.

To those looking to contribute to this guide: I am currently looking for screenshots of ‘prisoner unlock blurbs’ (that witty text that is displayed when you unlock a new prisoner) such as this one:
[link]
You can submit them either in the form of said screenshots (links to Steam screenshots, imgur etc.) or pasted text. I think that they would be a great ‘flavory’ addition to the guide. Note that I am not looking for previous XBLA version blurbs, unless they are the same as ones on Steam.

(This will be implemented once all prisoners have been released. The guide will then receive an overhaul)
