Overview
Learn about New Game+ and what transfers, or doesn’t transfer, to your New Game+ save when it comes to weapons, items, augmentations, collectibles, Ebooks, emails, and more.New Game+ is unlocked the first time you complete the game’s story on any difficulty.
About the New Game+ mode
New Game+ lets you begin a brand new game with most, but not all, of Adam Jensen’s character progress that was gained during your first playthrough. For example, all of your augmentation choices will carry over into New Game+ so you can use them right away. This can be extremely fun because you can tackle challenges early in the game and in ways that were likely unavailable to you at that exact spot in your first playthrough.
Your New Game+ game is always based on your most recent playthrough of New Game (regular). This means you cannot “offer up” a choosable saved game for what you want your New Game+ adventure to be based on. In addition, this means if you’ve started or completed a New Game+ and choose to begin another New Game+, it will still be based on your most recent playthrough of New Game (regular). See the dedicated section in this guide for complete details.
When you begin a New Game+, you are able to choose your game difficulty just like always. However, the “I Never Asked For This” unlocked difficulty is not selectable. It will also still not be selectable if you finish that difficulty on a regular New Game playthrough.
Remember, New Game+ is unlocked only after you complete the game’s story on any difficulty.
What transfers to New Game+
In general, most of what you’d expect to transfer to your New Game+ will transfer.
**IMPORTANT REMINDER: Consumable DLC items never transfer to any new game regardless of it being New Game or New Game+. However, DLC weapons and skins are considered “durable” DLC items and are available in any New Game or New Game+.
How to identify New Game+ game saves
You can identify your New Game+ games saves from the standard Load Game menu. While browsing, you can see the extra words “New Game+” in the game save details. This is shown consistently in any type of New Game+ save: Latest Auto-Save, Previous Auto-Save, Quick-Save, Save (manual saves).
How to change which save is used for New Game+
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to re-choose which saved game shall affect your New Game+. It will always be based on your most recent playthrough of New Game (regular). However, every time you finish another New Game (regular) playthrough, you are given the opportunity to base all fresh New Game+ games off your just-finished playthrough or not.
This ultimately means that playing New Game (regular) again is how you change your New Game+. You do not need to start a fresh game to influence your New Game+ unless you want to; in fact, you can safely load an older save that’s 1/4th, half, or 3/4ths complete and just finish that.
- To re-make New Game+ with information from your just-finished New Game (regular) playthrough, select Yes when you see the choice at the end of the story mode.
- To avoid overwriting your existing New Game+ with information from your just-finished new Game (regular) playthrough, select No when you see the choice at the end of the story mode.
You are given a warning and choice when finishing a New Game (regular) playthrough after New Game+ is already unlocked.
It’s important to note that neither of those choices will harm your existing saved games, regardless if you have additional New Game (regular) or New Game+’s currently in progress. This choice only affects starting any brand new New Game+. If you are unsure what to decide, try saving before the final boss fight in every playthrough and always keep those as your “safe game saves”. You can then use any of those to replace New Game+ information simply by beating the final boss.
