Overview
A quick fix to unlock High Shadow Details that are locked on NVIDIA Laptops.This method definitely works on Optimus laptops, but I cannot test this on AMD laptops.This works on all Source Engine games, but I think this isn’t an issue in CS:GO or Portal.
Method
READ CAREFULLY. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR RUSHED ACTIONS. IN CASE YOU DUCK UP THIS PROCESS, SIMPLY DON’T USE THE LAUNCH COMMAND ANYMORE OR TRY READING AGAIN.
1. Open Control Panel
2. Select Device Manager (found when using Large/Small icons view)
3. Under Display Adapters, right click your NVIDIA graphics adapter and select Properties
4. Select the Details tab
5. Select Hardware Ids from the drop-down menu
6. Copy the highlighted vendor id and hardware id as shown in the image. Your Hardware ID will almost definitely be different than the image I’m showing depending on your hardware. Your vendor ID will likely be the same.
7. Enter the vendor id and hardware id you copied into the underscored blank in the following Launch Command
-force_vendor_id 0x____ -force_device_id 0x____ -dxlevel 95
For example, according to the image, my launch command will be:
-force_vendor_id 0x10DE -force_device_id 0x13D8 -dxlevel 95
8. Enter the launch command you acquired by right clicking the game on steam, selecting properties, then selecting Set Launch Options.
