Overview

Builds for Cataclysm run. Some of the breakpoints cannot be reached without perfectly rolled items. Use this Reddit post to calculate your own breakpoints.

Introduction

Cataclysm is a difficulty for players who have finished the gear grinding and looking for high-level challenges gameplay.
This guide highlight two builds on each career as recommendation for non-modified Cataclysm difficulty. These two builds have high skill floor and good skill ceiling, strong to play and fairly easy to use. For more builds, check out the last section with Ranalds Gift links.

Battle Wizard (Dagger/Fire Sword + Bolt Staff)

Talent

LVL 5
Temporary HP on Stagger talent is very viable with high stagger weapon. The first heavy attack of Dagger and Fire Sword have the same profile of shield bash, making them synergize greatly with it.
LVL 10
Core talent of this build. With Volcanic Force, fully charged bolt has the ability to one-shot most of units in the game
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output of range weapons and DoT. And the main damage source of Sienna comes range & DoT.
LVL 20
Unusually Calm provides the best venting ability in combat. Allow you to switch between melee and range often while still receive some vent bonus from Tranquility.
LVL 25
Scoot Shield gives you 30% damage reduction all the time since you can trigger it on a single target. You just need to apply DoT on it 3 times. It helps you tanking mobs hit and reduces the health lost from venting.
LVL 30
Best utility option in the row, since Battle Wizard career skill provides AoE stun. You delay your second career skill up to 10 sec, so don’t instant double ult if you want to provide maximum crowd control. You can also use it to backup quickly and kill a lot elites with fully charged bolts.

Melee weapon

With the high elites damage from bolt staff, the main job of your melee weapon is to stagger horde, generate THP and block.
Fire Sword & Dagger are the best THP regen weapon on Sienna. Their heavy attack 1 has the same stagger power/range of shield bash. With THP on stagger you will have a lot of room to work with venting or taking damage.

Dagger has better mobility and higher armour damage. However it generates THP slower than Fire Sword, has a narrower hitbox of heavy attack 1, and has weaker block. Choose it for fast pace super aggressive gameplay.

Fire Sword has a higher default block cost. Its heavy attack 1 comes out faster and can hit more enemies easier due to its hitbox. It does, however, an overall slower weapon than Dagger and doesn’t really reward your positioning or headshot rate. Choose it for steady gameplay.

Range weapon

Current patch Bolt Staff has impressive breakpoints on specials even on Cataclysm. It also deals huge armour damage and decent amount of Monster damage if you can afford the heat. The lack of crowd control/charging speed and be easily compensated by your melee weapon.
As bolt wizard, you need to place yourself in the backline and kill armour units/elites/specials from far.
For hordes, headshot them with uncharged bolt when they are lined up.
For elites, try to delete them in the long range.
For boss, constant headshots can deal huge amount of damage.

Breakpoints: 20% chaos, 20% infantry, Volcanic Force, Enhanced Power, BW passive 10% range bonus
One shot-bodyshot most of specials and elites with full charged bolt
Exception:
Two shot-bodyshot Wargor with fully charged bolt
Two shot-headshot CW with fully charged bolt

Necklace

BCR is way superior to stamina if you have enough shield to perform push. Extra health is critical.
With high THP farm speed and high constant damage reduction from talent, Barkskin is very decent for tanking unavoidable damage. If you struggle with farming THP or hit trade a lot, use Boon of Shallya.

Charm

To reach the breakpoints mentioned above.
Proxy provides more potion efficiency since a team should play very tight on Cataclysm difficulty. Also, two people on potion effect can get out of emergency situations more easily.

Trinket

Crit chance provides more damage. Stamina regen provides more push to crowd control/survivability.
Due to the massive Monster health on Cataclysm, Sharpnel works best on monster burst down. It also the best option for Patrol kill if a team can focus their fire.

Battle Wizard (Dagger/Fire Sword + Beam/Coruscation Staff)

Talent

LVL 5

The core talent of these builds. Both Beam and Coruscation staff get great value from increased DoT damage. Making you meltdown both horde & monster with ease. On Coruscation staff, although it reduces your left click shotgun blast damage, but the shotgun left click is still a good tool against close range Infantry/Berserker units.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output of range weapons and DoT. And the main damage source of Sienna comes range & DoT.
LVL 20

Beam Staff: Kaboom can instantly clean a massive amount of horde units with one click. It also deletes SV/Beastgor very quickly, making skaven/beastmen patrol a total joke. It synergizes very well with beam staff chain shotgun blast burst damage.
Coruscation Staff: Burnout is the utility option in the row, since Battle Wizard career skill provides AoE stun. You delay your second career skill up to 10 sec, so don’t instant double ult if you want to provide maximum crowd control. You can also use it to backup quickly and vent, since Coruscation Staff generate a lot of heat.

Melee weapon

The main job of your melee weapon is to apply DoT, stagger horde/elites, generate THP and block. Most of your damage including armour damage on this build comes from DoT.

Range weapon & Charm – Beam Staff

Beam staff has the highest DoT damage in the game. Your Blast attack can apply DoT in a wide range and doesn’t need to charge. The left-click Beam mode has one of the highest monster damage in the game. Pinpoint accuracy also makes it a good special sniping tool.
For hordes, when you are on low heat, apply DoT and stagger them with Blast mode.
For elites, apply DoT with Blast and use your melee to stagger them.
For specials, use Snipe mode or just hold left click on them if they are far away/don’t move.
For boss, left-click them with the Beam mode. Pay attention if you accidentally hit a teammate, your DoT damage will dropdown to initial.

All potion effects benefit Battle Wizard with a lot and especially the purple potion + Kaboom. Concoction can guarantee one ult charge with any potion.

Breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 10% infantry, 10% monster, Enhanced Power, BW passive 10% range bonus, Barrage
Two shot-bodyshot slave rat/fanatic with Blast
Three shot-bodyshot gor with Blast
Two shot-headshot or three shot-bodyshot all specials with Instant Snipe

For low heat special kill, hold down Beam on specials for around 3 sec then Snipe. Cost way less heat but it will take longer.

Range weapon & Charm – Coruscation Staff

Coruscation Staff is a close to medium specialty staff, with amazing horde clear and dealing with boss. Think it like a shotgun but also good at dealing monster damage.
While fighting horde, place multiple fire pits at the frontline, so you can apply high DoT on enemies and your team can keep them in place. Use left click primary attack to clear close to medium range enemies that pile up.
While kiting, place down multiple fire pits on enemies’ pursuing paths.
While fighting monster, place down a fire pit under it, and try to kite it in place.

Breakpoints: 10% chaos, 10% skaven, 20% infantry, BW passive 10% range bonus
Reduce the number of pellets needs for mob/special/elite kill.

Necklace

BCR is way superior to stamina if you have enough shield to perform push. Extra health is critical.
With high THP farm speed and high constant damage reduction from talent, Barkskin is very decent for tanking unavoidable damage. If you struggle with farming THP or hit trade a lot, use Boon of Shallya.

Trinket

Pyromancer (Dagger/Mace + Fireball/Coruscation Staff)

Talent

LVL 5
Dagger and mace have good cleave on their horizontal attacks. Thus THP on cleave gives the more consistent regen for this weapon.
LVL 10
Depends on your range weapon, choose different talent.
Fireball Staff: Ride the Fire Wind provides average 10% extra damage on range weapon. It increases your heavy spam fireball impact damage.
Coruscation Staff: Martial Study gives the most consistent boost since Coruscation Staff only left click benefit from range power. And it left-click drains quite a bit heat, more attack speed helps farm thp faster.
LVL 15
With Fireball/Coruscation Staff build, most of the armour damage is coming from your melee. Smiter provide a flat 20% increase melee damage on the unit you hit, making it super efficient on boosting melee elites killing power.
LVL 20
Deathly-Dissipation gives you a huge amount of burst damage/control after killing a special. Both Fireball and Coruscation Staff melts close range infantry specials plus you have Burning Head to secure a long-range kill. Fitting the heavy range play style best.
LVL 20
Primarily provides good mobility on high heat, also melee damage. Both Fireball and Coruscation Staff build are very heat intensive, you will be at high heat most of the time.
LVL 30
Most viable one to help you vent heat and taking damage.

Melee weapon

With this build, melee weapon should be used for THP farming, dealing with armoured units and low density horde.

Dagger has good crowd control attacks and very fast moveset. Its elites damage is also among the best. You can use its move tech (light/push attacks) to position better.

Mace has good balance between crowd control and elites damage. All its horizontal attacks have good cleave, light attack 1/2 have good elites damage and stagger, and its heavy attack has insane super armour damage. Downside is its moveability is not the best, and require stamina to enable horde clear combo, requiring players to position well.

Range weapon

FIreball staff provides the highest DPS on Cataclysm. It destroys horde and has massive Monster damage. The only downside is that it generates a huge amount of heat. The THP from Burning Head can help with that.
Barrage increases your fireball DoT, damage, cleave and stagger. Best option for a pure fireball build.

Coruscation Staff is a close to medium specialty staff, with amazing horde clear and dealing with boss. Think it like a shotgun but also good at dealing monster damage.

With the high damage on Cataclysm, low HP pool character can’t survive two hits even with Barkskin. Use Boon of Shallya to get away from instant kill threshold faster.

Charm

To increase your horde damage.
Proxy provides more potion efficiency since a team should play very tight on Cataclysm difficulty. Also, two people on potion effect can get out of emergency situations more easily.

Trinket

Cooldown for more THP from Burning Head. Due to the enemies deal massive damage on Cataclysm, reviving becomes crucial in a lot of situations especially careers without AoE stagger. Revive speed can basically guarantee a successful revive against horde.
Due to the massive increase in Monster health, Sharpnel works best on monster burst down. It also the best option for Patrol kill if a team can focus their fire.

Pyromancer (Dagger/Sword + Bolt Staff)

Talent

LVL 5
With a melee build, Pyromancer will have tons of attack speed and use a good cleave weapon. These two factors make THP on cleave superior on this particular playstyle/build. You will farm THP very efficiently on all types of units.
LVL 10
With the low staff usage and high THP farm from both your melee weapon and career skill, you can fairly easy to trigger Spirit-Casting on a melee pyro build, providing more melee damage than any other talent in this role. If you struggle to maintain high Temporary HP, use Martial Study instead.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output on all situations. It is also essential for some range weapon breakpoints.
LVL 20
One with the Flame is the only melee damage boosting talent in this row.
LVL 25
Provides high melee damage and good mobility since you need to play on high heat most of the time.
LVL 30
Most viable one to help you taking damage and maintain high crit chance from Spirit-Casting.

Melee weapon

Dagger packs multiple tools in its moveset. Its heavy attack 1 has the same stagger power/range of shield bash. Its heavy attack 2 has good armour damage. Light attack/push attack can increase your movement speed, helping you to reposition/dodge easily. With this build you should use chain light attack headshot to kill horde, use heavy 2 to kill elites.

1h Sword is Sienna’s best horde clear weapon. With recent patch headshot/crit damage increase, its armoured damage got improved significantly. The push attack/light attack 1/2 has good horde clear properties, heavy attacks have huge cleave and stagger ability, light attack 3 has high armoured damage and easy headshot animation. On Pyromancer melee build, you can light through everything, with occasionally heavy attacks to stagger elites for better opening.

Range weapon

Current patch Bolt Staff has impressive breakpoints on specials even on Cataclysm. On melee Pyromancer build, it is also a buff applier. Since Pyromancer has high crit chance, your left click sparks can easily trigger Hunter to increase your damage by 25% for 10 sec.
Before horde comes close, headshot lined up horde with uncharged bolts to raise your heat and increase your melee ability. During the horde, once you noticed your Hunter buff is almost gone or your heat is dropping low, switch to Bolt Staff and hold left click on enemies for a while, to either trigger Hunter or raise heat.

Breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 10% berserker, Enhance Power
One shot-bodyshot all specials/Monk/Berserker with fully charged bolt
One shot-headshot SV/Beastgor with fully charged bolt
Three shot-headshot CW with fully charged bolt

LVL 20
Dissipate provides strong versatility in melee combat. Greatly increase your survivability. The best option for a melee-range hybrid build.
LVL 25
Increase both your range sustain and tackiness. Allows you to trade your ult cooldown for more heat for range damage sometimes.
LVL 30
Best option in the row. Providing great sustain to your whole team. Especially valuable in this patch due to the nerf on THP.

Melee weapon

Dagger is one of the best THP regen weapon on Sienna. Its heavy attack 1 has the same stagger power/range of shield bash. Its heavy attack 2 has good armour damage. Light attack/push attack can increase your movement speed, helping you to reposition/dodge easily. With this build you should use chain light attack headshot to kill horde, use heavy 1 to regen THP and stagger horde/multiple elites, use heavy 2 to kill elites.

Mace has good balance between crowd control and elites damage. It is the highest elites damage weapon on Unchained. All its horizontal attacks have good cleave, light attack 1/2 have good elites damage and stagger, and its heavy attack has insane super armour damage. Downside is its moveability is not the best, and require stamina to enable horde clear combo, requiring players to position well.

Burning Flail has a great balance between stagger, cleave, horde, elites. At the current patch, the heavy overhead attack can stagger CW overhead on Cataclysm with enough passive stacks and applying AoE explosion to multiple enemies, making it very efficient in high density situations.

Stagger Breakpoints: 10% Skaven, 10% Chaos, Enhanced Power, Unstable Strength
Mace: Heavy 1 stagger SV/Mauler/Bestigor/Savage all attacks with 4 stacks of Unstable Strength

Burning Flail: Heavy 1 stagger everything except CW overhead by default, stagger CW overhead with 4 stacks of Unstable Strength

Range weapon

Use your range weapon when you are at low heat, enemies are billed up, killing special/monster, creating space.

FIreball staff provides the highest DPS on Cataclysm. It destroys horde and has massive Monster damage. The only downside is that it generates a huge amount of heat, which you can use it to raise your melee/block ability.

Beam Staff has fairly low damage output on Unchained. The special breakpoints are also not great. But you can still kill them quickly with instant snipe. And chain blast can raise your heat bar quickly to give you high melee damage, also clearing trash units to give you more room to focus on elites.

Coruscation Staff is a close to medium specialty staff, with amazing horde clear and dealing with boss. Think it like a shotgun but also good at dealing monster damage.

With this build, you play like a normal melee career. Use melee weapon most of time and use range to kill specials. The key difference is you want to raise your heat up before horde comes closer.

Dagger has higher melee damage. Chain light attack can kill horde very quickly if you chain headshot them and heavy stab has decent armour damage. Push attack and all light attacks also increase your movement speed, helping you to position yourself better.
