Overview
Ever wandered what you are really supposted to do as a specified crew member? Do you want to play the game seriously? Read this mostly pointed out manual than. It briefly explains what you are being supposted to do as a specified crew member to increase chances for completing missions.
Assistant
- Reload railguns and coilguns. Wisely load ammunition best for dealing with dangerous situations.
- Help others carry items out of ruins. Hold artifact.
- Loot items from defeated monsters and put them into best for them to be stored containers on board. Inform others of gaining said loot so they may use it.
- Gain more experience points than others for as long as none of your skills are high.
- Patrol submarine in search of broken devices during free time.
- Don’t do anything stupid.
Captain
- Regularly steer the submarine.
- Position submarine to make railguns and coilguns reach creatures. Try to make them able to target weak spots of targets.
- Dodge attacks of monsters.
- Avoid unnecessary combat if possible.
- Use additional buttons on navigation terminal’s interface such as electrical discharge coil if it is present when small monsters are near electrical discharge coils as larger monsters are immune to stun.
- Inform your crew of enemy situation.
- Inform your crew of potentially broken devices judging by the behaviour of navigation terminal and submarine.
- Eventually operate a coilgun or railgun.
- Use your authority to discipline your crew.
- Eventually help in eliminating griefers and traitors.
- Don’t do anything stupid.
Engineer
- During combat go to terminals with sonars to check for monster positions and go in there to check for the leaks.
- Regularly patrol submarine in search for broken devices. Check junction boxes most often.
- Don’t do anything stupid.
Mechanic
- During combat go to terminals with sonars to check for monster positions and go in there to check for the leaks.
- Use your mechanical engineering skills to cut walls in ruins faster than others.
- Craft useful items which others cannot craft during free time.
- Regularly patrol submarine in search for broken devices. Check nuclear reactor, ballast pumps and engines most often.
- Don’t do anything stupid.
Medical Doctor
- You can always see most correct treatments for vitality loses.
- Craft useful medical items others cannot craft.
- Help your crew members in ruins recover from gathered injuries before they return to submarine.
- Eventually patrol submarine in search for broken devices during free time.
- Eventually help in stunning griefers and traitors by using chloral hydrate.
- Don’t do anything stupid.
Security Officer
- Stalk suspicious crew members.
- Regularly stay near coilguns and railguns to be ready for fighting enemies.
- Very quickly deal with enemies boarding submarine.
- Take enemy attacks on self in the ruins as you are much more durable with armor on. You should always be the one who goes inside rooms first.
- Don’t do anything stupid.
Vitality
- Security Officer: 100
- Assistant/Engineer/Mechanic/Medical Doctor: 90
- Captain: 80
Be aware that vitality doesn’t increase it’s maximum possible amount in the game but devleopers said it may get changed.
Deputies
Remember that Barotrauma is absolutely possible to be played easily for as long as everybody knows what to do. This guide is important for as long as everybody is in their place and other actions may need to be taken in case of anything not going according to plan.
if there is no specified crew member of a specified job someone else should fill the duty of that missing person if possible. It would become easier if the deputy had reached a certain level of specified skill to accomplish it.
- Deputy of Assistant can be of any skill level of any skill but assistants should not have deputies in most cases.
- Captain’s deputy should have at least level 60 helm skill. Level 40 weapons skill would also make him/her able to fight as well as default captains do.
- Engineer’s deputy should have at least level 40 electrical engineering skill.
- Mechanic’s deputy should have at least level 40 mechanical engineering skill.
- Medical Doctor’s deputy should have at least level 60 medical skill.
- Security Officer’s deputy should have at least level 40 weapons skill. Captains could act as deputies of security officers but they have 20 points less vitality when compared to security officers.
