Overview
This guide is intended for people willing to use the mod but not willing to use it exclusively with the Steam version. It has been promptly tested with the GOG version but should work with any GOTY edition (except direct2drive).Note that each hyperlink in this guide leads to official sites of developpers and/or modders and absolutely no questionnable content is used or even linked.
What you need
What you need to enjoy this mod on (virtually) any GOTY edition (including non-Steam ones).
- The base game itself (excellent with or without the mod). Available for instance on GOG: [link]
- The standalone installer for the DE : Revision mod itself. Available through the developper’s site (either from them directly or through ModDB): [link]
- Kentie’s Deus Exe launcher mod (windows only) which also fixes some stuff and allows for some tweaking: [link]
Walkthrough
This is pretty straightforward:
- Install the base game and patch it to the adequate version (1.112fm) if necessary.
- Install the Deus Ex: Revision mod through the standalone installer in the adequate folder. At the end, ignore the part about activating on Steam.
- In the Deus Ex install folder, go to the System subfolder and backup the following files: deusex.exe and revision.exe.
- Extract the two files from the launcher mod into the system subfolder.
- Rename the deusex.exe file to revision.exe
Launching rvision.exe will start the launcher mod, fiddle with the options and launch the game.
Issues & solutions
- Revision.exe doesn’t launch and a popup tells me about a missing dll.
Kentie’s launcher mod requires the installation of Visual C++ 2015 runtimes. There’s a link on the launcher mod’s website. Be sure to install this before launching your modded install.
