Overview
You may remember my previous guide for realistic independent suspension. Well, I’ve gone a step further and shrunk it by several blocks in height and width! This new and improved design may prove more useful for creations within the bounding box (even though my original design fit as well). It’s vaguelly weaker than the original design I made, but easier to quickly make and reproduce.
The Purpose
So, why am I motivated to waste time on this subject?
Well, to begin with, I have no life. That helps. However, I’ve always been interested in mechanics. How do things function the way they do? And ever since I’ve seen Besiege, I’ve always wondered the limits of this simple game. Now I created about a year ago a post about how to create a form of independent suspension.
(You can look at there here)
This suspension was good and certainly did it’s job. However, as you may be able to tell from the image to the right, it was rather large, and though it was compactable further by a certain ammount it still was only about a block distance from the border.
And so, after randomly creating this design in creative when I was bored after a long year of hard work, I have created a new and improved design.
How to Complete
Basic Structure
Simple, basic starter structure needed. Second image is reference, do not build these extra blocks.
Little Tid-Bits
The joints are required as to not cause the pieces to break, and to allow the wheelbase to go up and down. The suspension is obviously to return the wheelbase to the ground. The spring should be set to 3.
Finalizing
Adding the necessary braces and the wheels. Braces are to move, wheels to move. There is a small wheel on the inside for turning and large wheels for movement.
Repeating and Enjoying
Now just duplicate these segments with a minimum two blocks distance from one another and boom, you’ve got a functioning vehicle (so long you connect these segments.) Have fun with your designs, and put what you do with them in the comments! Give me ideas as well 🙂
