VBIGCAT’S QUICK GUIDE TO GOOD FOOD

Overview

A little guide for the foods with the longest-lasting buffs and how to make them.

Intro

I find the Wiki for food in Starbound long and overwhelming, and it’s a hassle going back and forth from tab to tab; so I decided to consolidate what I find important and leave it here for anyone else. The following tables are meant to show the foods with the longest-lasting effect for their respective buff and how to make them. The first effect column in the stats table shows the effect that is the longest of its type, and the subsequent columns are simply additional effects and are not the longest buffs of their type. This is excluding Desert Salsa, which has the longest effect for both Thorn and Jump.

Although Toxic Jam Donuts and Toxic Tarts give the Poison debuff, I would argue that the damage is minimal, and the increased time of their positive effects outweighs the alternative, non-damaging food options. Having a full belly and a health buff will easily mitigate the damage. There are, however, no foods that provide the Nova buff that do not also give the Burning debuff. As a side note for new players, the Light effect refers to reduced gravity, not the emission of light.

Maximum hunger is (as far as the Wiki says) 70, so many of these foods listed will give your character the Full Belly effect and prevent further eating until the hunger bar has decreased. With these foods alone, it would be most effective to eat one of the last three when you are near starving, and then eat one of the first four; it’s not efficient, but having a well stocked and cultivated garden should be at the top of your priorities. If you are interested in finding out which foods are most efficient for stacking buffs, please check out my other guide, VBIGCAT’S QUICK GUIDE TO GOOD FOOD PT. 2.
