Overview
Sometimes playing Verdant Skies (spectacular game!!) it gets frustrating to locate things or to remember what is needed – as the time continue to tick while staring at the menus… oops it’s already late night! Time to sleep. What was I doing again?Hi there, this is my first guide, hope that it was useful in some way!
Tips and Tricks
- Hit M for Map or use the bottom right corner to open map. (Can this be made permanent please?
Why? Because once you unlock more fields, you might lose track of WHERE they ARE. (I got lost a whole bunch when I just started the game not realizing there were multiple fields…. Plus, there is a field indicator whether its been watered or not and if there is crop ready to harvest!) - Hit I for Items or bottom left corner of your game screen.
Why? Because you would constantly be trying to recover energy while you explore: be it chopping down wood, breaking stone, mining, or farming at a distant area. - Collect ALL the berries (Cobberies OR Heartfruit) whenever you can. (And scraps!)
Why? Cheap, inexpensive, and non time-consuming food. Keep it with you everywhere you go. (Plus, it doesn’t sell for much….) - Have actual cooked food with you.
Why? There are eclipse days (last 5 days of 30 days) where nothing grows (hibernation period). You may run out of berries to pickup to recover stamina.
An easy food I make in game are Corn Puffs OR Grilled Cornball (both oven 20 mins) because I have a lot of Regrowth traits for my Dwarf Corns. - Early game – collect flowers. (Maybe there is a better thing to do but….)
Flowers are abundant and once you construct the woodworking bench create bouquets, it is one of the ways to obtain money while you wait for your crops to grow. - Once you have your own house… Fishing!
It doesn’t cost any energy and you can remove it from your fridge to sell. - Go to your fridge for your crops and fish.
That’s right – it’s inside your fridge. If you want to sell any of your crops you need to go home and send it through the shipping box.
Or toggle everything goes into your inventory in the settings menu… but I like to scavenge with my inventory for everything else. - Build Storage Boxes – found in woodworking bench.
Hallelujah! More sorting and more junk!
This is especially useful when you unlock different areas and have different crops. Each crop takes up its own space unless it’s the same splice and the same label. (Why does labelling it different by accident make it into a different crop even with the same genetics?) - Colonist Collections
If you open the book that documents all the fish, crops, and insects there is a tab that says “Relationships” you can view their requests from your book – instead of going into their house constantly like a creeper! Yay! - Create a bunch of Seed Storage and Watering Hoses
For all the different fields you have – a total of 12 – admittedly you don’t need THAT many but I chose to make a watering hose for each one because lazy.
Random information that you might find useful
Time (dining events)
- Afternoon: 12 PM – 2 PM (or was it 11 AM?)
- Evening: 4 PM – 6 PM (Though it can be slightly later perhaps before 7 PM?)
Free stuff / quest locked items / items in general
- You get 2 Animal Pens from Nessa for free.
- You get 1 3D Printer from Jade for free.
- Zaheen gives you the jar to collect bugs – must come in pairs.
- Some bugs seem to spawn much more often than others but generally – it seems to be random
- To get into the Wetlands you need to wait for a quest to trigger (for the Wetland Walkers).
- Jade gives you the Animal Genome Sampler.
- They… actually do die of loneliness if you don’t find them a mate… or at least in my experience they disappear. Perhaps I wasn’t paying attention?
- Miles opens the Collection Items… maybe after a bunch of purchases? And his stuff changes everyday.
- You need around 3 dynamites – to access mountains, to enter go deeper into the first mines, and the mountain field. (Perhaps I am forgetting another one?)
- Clay can only be found in the Eastern Plains. (See below)
Field Info
- There are a total of: 3 Marsh Fields, 3 Mountain Fields, and 6 Plains Fields
- Crops grow overtime (because of rain perhaps?) and if you leave harvest-able crops too long, they become seeds again.
- If crops have “Needs Fertilizer” it actually won’t reach its final stage until you give it fertilizer. (shocking) I assume it’s the same for “Needs Water”
- Locations for Plains Fields:
- 1 is in the top left mountain areas; right before it changes into mountain terrain,
- 1 is located right in front of Sasha’s house alternatively can be thought of as the one you follow along the path north,
- 2 are located next to your home
- 2 are in the Eastern Field; one directly above and one right under the bridge
- Locations of Mountain Fields:
- 2 are very close to each other to the right in the mountains.
- The last is top left, behind a rock that requires dynamite to open.
- Locations for Marsh Fields
- 2 are directly left of Ramon’s house (or farther, of Rosie’s house) – the one that is farther go left and follow up the marsh’s pond and go left again.
- 1 is left of Nessa’s house (very left). Or diagonal (up right) from the furthest marsh field – will pass by a lot of pond areas with fish.
- Locations for Plains Fields:
Wildlife
- Wildlife sometimes get stuck on… things. Makes it easy to gather their genome.
- Speaking of their genome, you have an inventory to splice that – so it can get full (like your seed box).
- The cow wildlife is in the Eastern Plains.
- I found my chicken wildlife in the mountain areas.
- The crystal wildlife is bottom-ish area in town or near town (beach).
- Sheep wildlife generally is near where Yuki’s house is.
- Suppose you want to be tricky about boxing in any of the wildlife…. well you can only really do it in one play through – they reset and become free roam again after you close and reopen the game. So it would be a good temporary thing to do for collecting for splicing but it’s not long term.
- Seed box, animal genome can become a chore (storage wise) but you can put it into the “splice” area to free up two spots…. (Not that, that helps much… generally.)
Stamina Stuff
- If you run out of stamina – you pass out and wake up in the Administration Building
- The penalty is losing the rest of your day and reduced stamina
- Resting at around 12 AM – 1 AM in my experience doesn’t fully replenish stamina bar.
- With that said, if you have the stamina upgrades, it doesn’t fill it up either.
- Check Sky Berries if you need help to increase stamina – spoilers though
Making circuits
For some reasons its process seems very convoluted just to make a simple circuit. So these are the steps:
- Gather Clay (have the eastern bridge built)
- Use Pottery Wheel – so that it can be made into a Circuit Casting Mould
- To make the Pottery Wheel you need: 1 Stone, 1 Scrap, and 1 Lumber on the Woodworking Workbench. Takes 6 hours (you are there to make it).
- Use Grinder – grind up some stone into Powdered Rock (this will take a while)
- To make the grinder you need 4 Scrap and 4 Stone. This takes 4 hours in the 3D Printer (you wait for this).
- Use Pottery Kiln – first option to make a Blank Circuit Board
- To make the Pottery Kiln – it is the same as the Pottery Wheel but this time you need 4 Stone and 5 Scrap. This takes 6 hours (instant; you are there to make it).
- Use 3D Printer to make whatever it is you need. In my case a Simple Circuit is 1 Copper Ore with the Blank Circuit Board
You may want to make a bunch of them or have your grinder running while you do other things. This takes a while.
Expansion Requirements and Locations (Incomplete)
East Bank (Eastern Plains)
The East Bank is located to the right of your house. This is important location as it is the only place that gives you clay, the cow wildlife, and the last two crops for the plains fields.
Western Expansion
Visitors Lodge (Hotel)
Your House
Building your house (required quest)
Second Expansion
Third Expansion
Items that makes life easier
Speed Shoes
As soon as you are able get the Speed Shoes – it’s unlocked after you obtain Anthony. Not quite sure how the event is triggered but Anthony and Rosie would have a discussion and then give you a blueprint.
Requirements:
Acquired by 2000 G
Uses the 3D Printer and processing time is 8 hours
Deep Core Miner
The associated quest comes from Miles (I think after you enter the mines), and comments if there was an opportunity to get gems. Mine a gem and show it to him. Later he would have a discussion with Anthony (after he is unlocked, maybe some hearts, in blue? – I’m pretty sure green hearts are fine for both but… who knows?) that would subsequently unlock the Deep Core Miner.
Requirements:
To operate the “game” for the miner it tells you at the beginning how far you are from the displayed mineral. Sometimes as you move you can find other minerals that you might want more. Decide to click on the next box to see if you are any closer.
Sky Berries
For those of us, who really don’t like cooking. These are the ones you want to get but spoilers just in case you want to test out what to feed the “Hungry Cave” or I’d like to call the Cave Lurker. This expands your stamina gauge.
Located in the mountain regions to the left. It is farther than the field that is blocked off by a huge boulder (that requires dynamite).
DO NOT OPEN THIS IF YOU WANT TO FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF
Spaghetti
Jelly Sandwich
Pizza
Fried Eggs
- Egg is obtained through (after obtaining Nessa) incubating the chicken genome.
- Alternatively, you could buy it from Miles for 45 G.
- If you make salt yourself, its made by Salty Crystal and it makes 2.
- Alternatively, you could just buy it from Miles for 10 G.
