Thea: The Awakening Guide

Villager Portraits & Profiles for Thea: The Awakening

Villager Portraits & Profiles

Overview

– a collection of portraits taken from the many different villagers players can raise, attract, or earn. There are over 200 different villagers so this guide is image heavy. It’s easiest to navigate using the Guide Index to the right. This is mainly a place to peruse all of these great illustrations, but I’ve also included some information about particularly rare and powerful villagers including how to recruit them. They’re organized by class. Since some portraits are used in more than one class, they’ll appear in both. Certain portraits like the Bat, Wolf, and Blood Spider are used for more than one character, but since they’re in the same class, only one portrait is shown. In these cases you’ll find the names of both characters listed below the portrait. One version of the card is more powerful than the others. The collection’s not quite complete – think I’m missing at least one Undead, and one of the Dwarven Warriors, and possibly a Troll. If you have any luck finding them, I’d be happy to hear how you got it – and grateful for a screenshot.

Bandits

Bandits are a common sight in Thea – preying on the weak,
and always seeking an advantage. They are usually good warriors and archers.

Bandits can be collected with building attractions for humans
and by peacefully resolving Bandit related events.

The Meeting Hall has the greatest potential to attract Humans. Pastures always attract Humans.
Favored Building Materials: Moonstone, and Food – especially Wheat

Beasts

Beasts can be great companions. Some are quite strong or have
superior senses. Others can be poisonous, so you better treat them well.

All of the beasts below can be collected with building attractions.
Many of the lesser beasts can be gained through peaceful resolution of events
that involve beasts.

The Archery Range has the greatest potential to attract Beasts. Mangers always attract Beasts.
Favored Building Materials: Clay, Sandstone, Monster Bones

The Royal Crow –Common– , for its level, boasts one of the highest Health and Armour stats
in the game. The Bear and Rabid Bear –Common– are nearly the same thing. A Rabid Bear
just has more attribute points and a slightly higher level.

The Malicious Spider, Blood Spider, and Dragon Spider are all quite –Common-, but the
Dragon Spider is significanly more powerful than the other two. It has high Health, Armour,
and Poison.

Striga Bats –Common– tend to have high Health, Armor, Leech, and Stealth stats.

Craftsmen

Craftsmen are more knowledgeable than other classes,
and excel at creating items and constructing buildings.

Dwarves

Sturdy and stubborn as the rock they are said to be born of,
Dwarves make for excellent warriors and magnificent smiths.

Building attractions for Dwarves is a good way to recruit Dwarf Smiths.

The Palisade, and Meeting Hall have the greatest potential to attract Dwarves.
Favored Building Material: Gold

Dwarf Smiths –Common– are notable for their high Craft and Strength.
They have much less Health than Dwarf Warriors, a little less Armour and inflict less Damage
as well. Other than attracting them with buildings, very rarely a Dwarf Smith may pass by your
village, stopping only for a drink and a chat if you’re willing, and decide to join you.
A Dwarf Smith will join you when you complete Horos’ divine quest.

Cult Leaders –Unique– have high Health, Speech, Tactics, Will, and sometimes a hint
of Magic. They’re not as strong as the rest of their kin, however. To get one, peacefully
resolve the Holy Hog Hunt and allow the Cult Leader to join your village. If you meet with
Kashir at the beginning of the quest, it will be impossible to recruit a Cult Leader.

To recruit a Dwarf Bandit –Uncommonhave a Dwarf companion in your expedition
when You come across the skeletal remains of an ancient dragon… Or if you’re playing as Lada
when Set upon by a rugged group of Dwarves…, share your food. Sometimes the leader offers
an additional challenge. Accept it and win to gain a Dwarf Bandit.

Wilbor and Wilbert –Unique– have high Armour, Health and Damage, but only Wilbert
can wield any two-handed weapon singlehandedly. To gain one of them cooperate
with the Dwarves during the Holy Hog Hunt.

Dwarf Warriors –Rare– have very high Armour, as well as high Health and Damage stats.
Unfortunately, your chances of recruiting one are pretty low. To get the opportunity, you
must have a Dwarf companion in your expedition when You come across the skeletal
remains of an ancient dragon…

Demons

Demons are many and varied. They may bring many boons –
ranging from fierce fighters to wise mages and more.

All of the Demons except for Zmey’s Old Minion can be collected with building attractions.
Demons generally have high Magic and Will stats.

The Archery Range has the greatest potential to attract Demons.
Favored Building Materials: Enchanted Bones, Dragon Bones

Both the Mamuna –Uncommon– and Svarozek Minion –Common– have high Magic, Will,
and an inherent Clear Mind. The biggest differences between the two are that Mamunas
have all eight equipment slots, Svarozek Minions have none, and while Svarozek Minions
inflict very little damage, Mamuna’s may inflict even more damage than an Orc Fighter.

Both the Striga Master and Striga Mistress –Uncommon– have high Damage, Magic, Leech,
and Will. You can get one of them by completeing Horos’ divine quest.

Zmey’s Old Minion –Unique– is one of the most powerful members of the village.
It has very high Poison, Speech, Folklore, and Will, and decent Health and Armour.
You can only get one by completing Perun’s Divine Quest.

Zmey’s Minion –Rare– has the same characteristics just at a much lower level,
though it’s almost as difficult to get. Sometimes one will join your village
if an expedition manages to charm the snakes after falling into a snake pit.

The only difference between the Hohlick and Treasurer –Common– is that the Hohlick
has three equipment slots, and the Treasurer has all eight. The Pineconnetes in the Ghost
family is far less powerful with no equipment slots at all.

The Poludnica –Uncommon– has high stats all around: Strength, Armour, Attack, Magic,
Speech, Will, Attractiveness, Leech damage, and a decent amount of Health.
One may be rewarded by Morena after you complete her divine quest.

With its great Strength, the Rarog –Common– makes a great pack animal. It also has
high Magic, Will, and Damage stats, but no equipment slots whatsoever.

Werewolves –Uncommon– have high Health, Armour, Damage, Strength, and innate
Piercing Damage. You get the chance to recruit one whenever an expedition is ambushed
by Werewolves. If you choose to leave someone behind so the rest of the expedition can escape,
the person you sacrificed may return to you as a Werewolf. If you fight and win instead,
some deities such as Horos give you a chance to recruit an injured werewolf. Others like Lada
will cure them of their lycanthropy, and you’ll wind up with a human villager instead.
Playing as Horos may give you more opportunities to recruit Werewolves.

The Bugay and Liho –Uncommon– share some similarities. Both inflict Piercing Damage,
have high Magic, Strength, Armour, Speech, and Will. There are some notable differences
however. Where the Bugay has high Leech, the Liho has high Stealth, and much higher
Strength and Armour stats than the Bugay. The Liho has all eight equipment slots,
and the Bugay has none. Aside from building attractions, the Liho may be rewarded by
Morena after you complete her divine quest.

Both the Bies and Cmuch –Common– have high Magic, Health, and Armour, but the Bies
has more Strength and inflicts more Damage. Neither one of them can carry any equipment.

The Hala –Uncommon– combines the Attractiveness of an Elf with the Health,
Armour, and Damage of a Dwarf. She also has high Magic, Will, and Strength.

The only real difference between the Spor –Common– and their counterparts
in the Beast family is the Spor arrive at a higher level with Magic and more Will.

Elves

Slender, sly, and well-spoken, Elves make for versatile allies;
often skilled with Magic and effective in Social challenges.

Elves can be recruited with building attractions, and during random events if your expedition has enough magic. Some of them are obtained in Silveroak, and several deities award them at the end of major quests.

The Archery Range, Palisade, and Totem have the greatest potential to attract Elves.
Favored Building Material: Elven Wood

Gatherers

Gatherers are skilled at harvesting resources,
but if you want them to peform in a fight, you’d better equip them well.

Ghosts

The souls of the dead roaming Thea’s lands.
Oddly enough, some can carry equipment.
They also have a range of useful skills to help in challenges.

There is no way to attract Ghosts. You encounter them during expeditions to
Suspicious Houses, and during certain events and questlines. Magic and
Social skills are essential if you want to win them over.

Ghosts –Common– are encountered occasionally in haunts around Thea.
The Child Wraith –Common– makes up for its low level and Damage with high Health, Armour,
Leech, and Poison. Wraiths have similar stats, but they do not have Leech. Instead, they have
all eight equipment slots while a Child Wraith has none at all. Child Wraiths occur as a result of
using magic to save a sick child, or not using magic to save the Icy Princess. Two Wraiths
and two or three Child Wraiths wil join you if you side with Kashir and the spirits during the
Holy Hog Hunt – see the section on Shamans for further information.

Gaeth –Unique– isn’t a particularly powerful Ghost. One of your expeditions
may encounter him when a sudden gust of wind rushes toward you and knocks you off
your feet.
If you take the child you find on the ground, eventually he’ll grow up. When his family
comes looking for him, hand him over. When he returns, ask him to stay, and he just might.

The Bound Spirit –Rare-, and this particular Ghost –Common– are possibly only encountered
during one quest, the Holy Hog Hunt. There are any number of ways to resolve this quest.
You can recruit both spirits at once by killing the Cultists. Or, if you have the option of working
with Kashir, a Ghost will join you early on, and two or three more will join if you use stealth to
resolve the quest’s final act.

Goblins

Goblins are smaller than man with thin rugged, greenish skin, long ears,
and sharp teeth. They are excellent tradesmen and animal trainers.

Goblins can be recruited with bulding attractions, and occasionally during events.

The Palisade and Totem have the greatest potential to attract Goblins.
Favored Building Materials: Dark Wood, Obsidian

The Nightstalker –Unique– has considerably more attribute points than an
ordinary Goblin Warrior, has high Stealth, and can wield a two handed sword singlehandedly.
The only way to recruit a Nightstalker is to play as Horos with a level 4 bonus.

The Goblin Boss –Uncommon– is the toughest of the bunch with high Health, Armour,
and Damage that surpasses a few of the Dwarves. He also has high Strength, Will, and
Speech stats.

Hunters

Hunters feel at home in the wilderness. They have a range
of skills and are especially useful during Hunting challenges.

Inventors

An Inventor possesses a formidable intellect and is adept at crafting.

Medics

Medics lower the chance of dying from wounds for fellow travellers.
They especially appreciate the companionship of warriors.

Mythical

Mythical creatures are those few who defy any other label.
They are big, they are old, and they are powerful.
Behold their wrath and treasure their friendship!

All but Starlight are encountered during the Giants Return questline.

Shades –Uncommon– and Shadow Creatures –Rare– are both minions of a Shadow Giant,
but Shadow Creatures are more powerful since their levels are higher. Both have high Health,
Strength, Armour, Speech, Folklore, Magic, Will, Poison, and Stealth. The only equipment slots
either one of them possess are for Jewelry. Every now and then a Shade will join you when
an expedition is ambushed by a Shadow Giant and his minions!…and you defeat them.
You also have the chance to recruit several more near the end of the Return of the Giants
questline if you choose to slay Giants in order to reach the Umbrage Lord. If Kashir joins your
party during the Holy Hog Hunt, and you opt to steal the pig back using Stealth, a Shade will join
your expedition.

To recruit a Shadow Creature, you must first give the Seed of the Cosmic Tree to the Orcs
then convince the Umbrage Lord that you can work together.

Mroki and the Planetnik –Unique– are the two most powerful villagers in the game mostly
due to their high levels. The Mroki is the more powerful of the two, but both of them have
exceptionally high Health, Armour, and Will; high Damage, Strength, Speech, and Intelligence.
Unsurprisingly, neither one of them is very good at gardening, and they’re simply terrible
with animals. The Planetnik is easier to obtain, and he offers another method of dealing with
any giants the expedition encounters. He is a reward for enlisting the aid of the Weatherer
to peacefully resolve the Giants Return questline.

You have a chance at receiving a Mroki at the end of the same questline if you choose
to attack the Umbrage Lord.

Starlight, the Son of Zorya –Unique– has similar stats to a Warrior, but with higher
Will, Speech, and Stealth, and he starts the game at a higher level. More significantly,
he is able to wield any two-handed weapon single handedly. To recruit him,
you must play as Zorya at full power. He is the level 5 bonus.

The Viatroviec –Unique– has very high Strength, Armour, Folklore, and Will, as well as
a large amount of Health. It has high Magic, Perception, and Speech and always inflicts
Piercing, Leech, and Poison damage. There are a couple of ways to get one: One will
join you if you kill the Weatherer and sacrifice two random members of your expedition.
One will join you if you kill the Umbrage Lord and refuse to let the Shadow Creature join you.

Scavengers

Weak, skinny, and scared. Survival calls for the worst in all of us,
thus Scavengers are people who have fallen far from their humanity
and become singularly focused on staying alive.

Scavengers can be collected with building attractions for humans
and occasionally during certain random events.

Scavengers –Common– have stats similar to Hunters, except they’re not as proficient with
Herbalism or Animal Kinship, and they arrive with fewer attribute points.

Scholars

Scholars are seasoned academics,
adept at public speaking, and experts in areas of general knowledge.

Shamans

Not native to the Easterlands, Shamans hold the wisdom of the land.
Many wield magic and can perform rituals to aid their flock.

Shamans –Uncommon– are capable Medics similar to Sages and Witches with high Magic,
Will, and Speech stats, but they are generally stronger than their human counterparts.
You can recruit them through building attractions, and certain events such as when
An Old Goblin stumbles into your village at night and asks for a place to rest.

The only difference between Kashir –Unique– and a regular Goblin Shaman is Kashir
has a higher level. You only have an opportunity to recruit her/him during the Holy Hog
Hunt
if you already completed both the Cosmic Tree and the Giants Return quests and
chose to embrace the darkness in both.

Troll

A Troll, to an unseasoned eye, may be easily taken for a big rock or a puddle.
Because of their shape, they cannot carry equipment.

Trolls are another class that cannot be attracted.

The Rocker –Rare/ possibly Unique– has Health, Strength, and Armour
comparable to a Dwarf Warrior, but Rockers don’t inflict as much Damage,
and they are unable to carry any equipment. The only way to recruit one
that I know of is to play as Mokosh. She may reward you with a
Rocker once you complete her divine quest.

Orcs

Strong, tall, and muscular, the Orcs often instill fear at first sight.
They can be excellent warriors, but also keen hunters and witches.

When it comes to Health, Armour, and Strength, Orcs are less powerful than Dwarves, but more powerful than their human counterparts, though less proficient than Human specialists. All of the Fighters and Workers can be recruited with building attractions.

The Palisade, and Meeting Hall have the greatest potential to attract Orcs.
Favored Building Material: Steel

An Orc Matriarch –Rare– has higher Health, Intelligence, and Speech stats than an Orc
Fighter –Common– but less Strength. Matriarchs are the only Orcs with any Attractiveness
to speak of. An Orc Matriarch will join you at the conclusion of the Cosmic Tree quest
if you allied yourself with the Orcs and gave the Seed to their leader.

The main differences between Orc Workers –Common– and Fighters is that the Fighters
are stronger, and the Workers tend to accumulate more points in Gathering and Craft as
they gain levels. Both Fighters and Workers can be recruited when You travel through
the hills in search of resources, and you come upon the remains of an old settlement…
Work together with the Orcs and either agree to swap companions to get a Fighter, or
politely decline to possibly gain a Worker for free.

This Matriarch seems to have more attribute points than the other.

Undead

The undead or, Unliving – as they’re called in the Easterlands –
are many creatures, all damned, usually handy in combat.

The Unliving Corpse –Unique– has high Health, Armour, and innate Shielding.
It inflicts Poison damage as well, but only has average Strength and Damage.
As far as I know, the only way to recruit one is during the Holy Hog Hunt if you
sided with the Scholars during the Cosmic Tree quest and burned the seed.

Warriors

Warriors have more Strength and Health than others and can carry
a 2-handed sword in one hand.

Witches and Sages

Often feared, always respected – Witches and Sages are those who
wield the winds of magic. They are the wise ones, the keepers of old
traditions and folk knowledge.

The main difference between the Orc Witch –Uncommon– and other members of her
class is she inflicts far greater Damage, and has much better Strength and Folklore
attributes. She is obtainable in Dusktown which you only have access to if you
choose to end the Cosmic Tree questline by giving the Seed to the Orcs and plunging
Thea into darkness.
