Instructions to get the most out of HL2 in VR with the Oculus Rift DK2
VR Settings for Oculus Rift DK2
Setting Up Steam
Your DK2 should be on, and in Extended mode. Steam, HL2, and DK2 should all be up-to-date.
- Library -> Tools -> SteamVR -> Properties -> Betas: beta – SteamVR Bera Update
- Library -> Tools -> SteamVR -> Install
- Library -> Games -> Half-Life 2 -> Properties -> Betas: beta – Beta Updates
- Library -> Games -> Half-Life 2 -> Properties -> Set Launch Options: -refresh 75 -freq 75
- View -> Virtual Reality Mode (BETA)
Setting up HL2
- Options -> Video -> Screen Resolution: 1920×1080
- Options -> Video -> Virtual Reality Mode: Enabled
- Options -> Video -> Advanced -> Motion Blur: Disabled
- Options -> Video -> Advanced -> Field of View: 90
- Options -> Video -> Advanced -> Wait for vertical sync: Enabled
- Options -> Video -> Advanced -> Windows Aero extensions: Enabled (since SDK 1.4.3)
- Options -> Keyboard -> Advanced -> Enable Developer Console
- Restart HL2
- Activate Virtual Reality
- Press ~ to open the Developer Console
- Enter: disconnect, then fps_max 76 to enable 75fps (fps will be 76 – 1)
- Enter: vr_translation_limit 100 to fix the tracking camera scaling
Troubleshooting
In the developer console, you can use net_graph 1 and net_graph 0 to enable and disable view of FPS.
