Warhammer Fantasy Lore: Balthasar Gelt

Overview

This guide is for those new to Warhammer Fantasy. In this guide, we will talk about Balthasar Gelt. He is the second lord you can choose from the Empire.

The Beginning – Arrival to Altdorf

The first known use of his powers was when Balthasar Gelt arrived to Altdorf from the port of Marienburg. At that time, he wasn’t wearing his mask. He took lead and transformed it into gold using his magic, then paid passage on a merchant ship. However, the effect wouldn’t last long, and the gold eventually turned into lead. The captain of the ship placed a bounty on Balthasar’s head, but no one would dare to hunt Balhasar, because his skills as a mage were already known.

Rise to Power

Balthasar was obsessed with gold and was performing a lot of experiments in his laboratory. However, something exploded and his body was mutilated, his face mostly. That is when he began to wear the mask and cover his body. Some say he intentionally turned his skin into gold, but we will never know.
After this happened, the mage defeated Thyrus Gormann and became supreme patriarch, using the magics of the lore of metal.

Balthasar Gelt during the End Times

Balthasar has led the armies of the Emprie numerous times and created barriers known as “Walls of Faith” to keep the enemies of the empire away.
When he returned to a castle in Ostermark, he found out it was conquered by Mannfred Carstein, the leader of the vampire counts. Mannfred wanted to ally with Balthasar so they can defeat chaos, but he refused. Instead, he took the Revelations Necris, a heretical and necromantic book from the vampire and killed all witnesses.
He then went to Karl Franz and found him in danger. The mage had to use his necromancer powers to save the emperor, so he summoned a horde of undead and saved Karl Franz. He then left the Empire and joined the vampire counts.
