General
Alright so now its time for some general info on this character!
If you didn’t know, Foxtrot is a Damage Class.
He is categorized as a Versatile Assassin that is Easy to play.
This is mostly true in PVE, I’ll cover more later on that in this guide.
Back Ground: He’s a Galahadrim Clone gone Rogue, or another clone of the Oscar Mike’s gone very very wrong. Part of the rapid Deployment Corps Experiment Batch 02. His subject number is WF02-1221 and has been deemed unsuitable for joint operations even though he survived multiple attempts on his life by elite troops.
Wanted: For the desertion of his post at the UPR, is considered armed and dangerous. DON’T LOOK AT HIS FACE, ANYONE WHO LOOKS AT HIS FACE WILL BURST INTO FLAMES.
Reward: 589,000,000.00 Creds.
The Gun: Is a modified version of the UPR’s, special mods were made by a Lorrian merchant through the underground network, hence the “shady” apperance……
Foxy’s got jokes: “I once tried stand up comedy to pass the time. I told a joke, dropped the Mike. He didn’t get back up because I crushed his neck with my boot.”
PVE (Player vs Enemy)
This section is going to cover the abilities on the Helix I found best for using in PVE.
First off I’d like to start by correcting some of the misconception with Foxtrot in PVE, He is NOT just a ranged character, later on in the Helix development you’ll find him to be an excellent pusher and even an amazing tank thanks to his regenerative capabilities.
He is both a Damage over Time (Sticky Nades) And Burst Damage Character (Rifle, Melee, Ultimate) and his damage potential is met by being all over the field.
To be the best Foxtrot, you have to know when to use your sticky grenades, don’t be afraid to push the line and use your melee (which has a great knockback effect and does good damage), and to focus on using your rifle to get in close or to spray and get away.
Level 1:
In PVE I always go with Weighed Down, adding a slow effect makes it easier to land those critical hit shots on opponents. Personally I try to save them for larger opponents with more hp to maximize damage.
Note: Flak Off can be used to help add to the versatility of combat and is also needed to complete Foxtrot’s “Some find me Repulsive” Lore.
I have yet to see a use for Shield Scrapper in PVE, unless playing solo I advise against this ability.
Level 2:
I usually choose Swiss Cheese here because it helps you mark targets for the team and adds to your damage output.
Note: Scrap Bank can be used to help push more enemies off you and to help finish the Lore quest sooner.
Level 3: Personally I like the Scoped Up option here, but have found the Red Dot Sight to be just as good depending on the team you are playing with, if you have enough ranged damage the Red Dot Sight will help you rush in sooner and soak up some of the damage, or if precision is what you need and you already have plenty of front line characters Scoped up makes for a good option.
Level 4: I usually take Sticky MIRV or Stick ‘N’ Sap. I like both, Stick ‘N’ Sap is good for larger enemies helping you deal more damage to them individually, Sticky MIRV comes into play later on when you unlock Napalm and can cover a wider range for the DOT effect on large groups of smaller enemies.
Note: I’m not a big fan of Triple threat, but it can have its uses on both smaller enemies or larger enemies due to the slight delay between fires.
Level 5: Killer Regen is the ONLY option here for me due to my play style if I want to stay alive on Foxtrot. It turns you into a pretty decent tank option when paired with some regen item of around +9~10% at a time.
Note: For pure damage purposes Reload Burst is your best option. Speed Burst I have not found a good use for in PVE.
Level 6: Until you get Napalm, Sticky Speed is the best bet here to help you get those nades in faster. Flakback may be good to help get you out of sticky situations. But this choice is a solid one, Napalm is the only option best for damage output and it adds alot of damage to your arsenal.
Level 7: I always use When Three Just isn’t enough. One extra round per fire and if you aim right you can get an additional crit in that you couldn’t before. Duct taped Mag’s could be the better option here, but on fodder trash and large enemies (not bosses) the 4 shots are better in my opinion.
Note: Shield Pen isn’t worth alot in PVE again, shield damage is a mute point in this mode.
Level 8: I usually go with Long Distance Flak- because when paired with Swiss Cheese I can hit an enemy with a sticky nade, then move in while flaying him down with bullets by the time I get there the enemy is dead and I’m on to the next one.
Note: Spread shot can be good in close range engagements more bullets = more damage.
Level 9: This is a tough one I always choose Swift Stickies for the delay reduction, maybe someone with more patience will figure out which option is better overall for PVE. +15% Nade damage or -20% Reduction?
Level 10: Easiest choice by far on the Helix, Overoverdrive is your best option. Shield Penetration is garbage in PVE. 25 extra free rapid fire bullets or an ability that gives you nothing when you are on the final boss?
PVP (Player vs Player)
The way you play Foxtrot in PVP is VERY different from the way you play him in PVE. In PVP Foxtrot becomes a ranged based character and is NOT good for front line skirmishes.
You have to try to get as much damage in from a moderate distance and by that time your opponent will either run or think they can finish you off, unfortunantely for them Foxtrot is no pushover in close range and has a melee that will knock them back. Hit them with a few more bullets and knock them back again then finish them off with a few more of those sweet sweet bullets.
To sum that all up Foxtrot is NOT a versatile character in PVP, he does however do exceptional damage if played properly and can be used to decoy people into other team members traps.
Level 1: If you are skilled enough at landing the Sticky Nades I like Weighed Down, it helps lock in players to a spot and allows other team members to bang on them. For 1v1 purposes (IE: Other team has alot of melees Flak Off is great for getting away from a skirmish you don’t want to be in). Shield Scrapper is also a good option for taking down individual enemy shields when paired with Scrap Bank.
Level 2: If you went with Weighed Down, I’d do Swiss Cheese to reveal your target to other team members making it easier for them to see who you are rick rolling down and the team can get a kill. If you went with Flak Off or Shield Scrapper, Scrap Bank is the best option.
Level 3: I always go with Red Dot Sight for the movement speed since every round you will fight a Rath or a Phoebe or a Gale….. Some OP Melee who left clicks after stunning you into submission, it makes it a little harder for them to catch you. 🙂 Scoped Up is only a good option if everyone has been ignoring you and you don’t think they’ll bother you too much, which is like…. never.
Level 4: Sticky MIRV for bases or enemies, best option here. Next best is Stick N Sap for DOT damage. Triple Threat is only good if you are hacking nade throws or are the best nade thrower in the universe and can hit 3 seperate targets with each use of the ability. No, I’m joking (Not Really), but Triple Threat can be good if you are having a hard time hitting a moving target, just note: grenades launch slow aim in front.
Level 5: Killer Regen. Best.
Note: I’m a fanboy of Killer Regen! But to be fair to the other abilities- Reload burst, pretty much worthless in PVP. Speed Burst, Can be used to quickly escape from a Skirimish after killing one of the 3 enemy team members trying to kill you.
Level 6: I always use Napalm for an AOE (Area of Effect) DOT (Damage over Time). It really pisses other players off and gets you alot of kills, or adds to the damage pool at least. FlakBack is your next best option if you plan on being in alot of close range fights OR there are mostly melees rushing you on the other team. Sticky Speed being the worst option here not very good for PVP.
Level 7: Shield Pen to deal health damage behind shield damage, alot of PVP characters have shields and some of the most annoying ones have shields. Why not give them a scare and take some health with that shield per bullet? “WAIT, but what if I don’t have any enemies with shields?” Well…. When Three Just Isn’t Enough…. you know….. 4?
Note: I have never used Duct Taped Mags in PVP it may be good for getting a few extra bullets into a fleeing opponent.
Level 8: Long Distance Flak, playing at range requires damage from range unless you went with Flack Off, FlackBack, and Scrap Bank, I cannot justify Spread Shot.
Level 9: Swift Stickies is what I always use, but come to think of it most times I only get one off per fight with a 1v1 or even in a ?v? before I’m running or they are running so it may actually be better to go with Stronger Stickies for the Guerilla style warfare that is Battleborn PVP.
Level 10: If you make it this far in PVP – What Shields?, For real, try it sometime if you have shielded opponents. Watch the look on their face >:P. No Shielded opponents or the ones you are fighting jokes? Welllllllllllll Overoverdrive.
