Overview
This guide will explain how and why Shovels are better than Picks.
Section 1: Why you should stop with Pickaxes.
Here I’m going to list reasons why Pickaxes should be thrown in the trash, along with deeper thought into those reasons
REASON #1
Pickaxes are hard to craft.
Lets be honest. You all hate having to make a Flimsy Pickaxe and needing that one thing that you always have trouble finding.
THE CROWBAR
HOLY COW.
Crowbars are one of the hardest things to come by in inmate desks.
This makes making Flimsy Pickaxes stupidly hard to make.
REASON #2
Pickaxes require Timber to be upgraded.
At first, you’re probably thinking: “What? yea duh, why does that matter?”
Well, one of the other crafting materials needed for a Flimsy Pickaxe is the Handle. To get a Handle you would need a File and, you guessed it, TIMBER.
This is not good because Timber is also the material used to upgrade the Pickaxe. To fully upgrade a pickaxe from no Pick, you’d need 4 timber, 3 duct tape, and 1 crowbar.
That’s quite a bit saying we only break 4 tiles.
Section 2: Why you should switch to Shovels.
This section will explain why Shovels are much better than pickaxes.
REASON #1
Shovels don’t require crowbars to craft.
I know you probably don’t know what the Shovel’s crafting requirements are, because lets be honest, have many people actually tried shovels yet?
Flimsy Shovels only require Handle, Sheet Metal, and Duct Tape to craft (Sheet Metal is pretty simple to obtain by getting a blacksmith job {(if it exists on the map} or beating up the NPC that works the job when job time ends, and pretty commonly found in desks.)
REASON #2
Pickaxes aren’t gameplay-wise better than Shovels.
Pickaxes and Shovels fully upgraded (Sturdy Condition) both can break up to 4 tiles.
They both require an equal amount of energy to use (As far as i’m concerned, the energy depletion looked about the same in my testing.)
REASON #3
Similar to the 1st reason, but Shovels are EASIER to craft than Flimsy Pickaxes.
This is why them breaking the same amount of tiles and using a similar amount of energy is important.
Shovels require 1 File, 1 Timber, 3 Sheet Metal, and 3 Duct tape to fully upgrade from no Shovel, while Pickaxes require 1 File, 4 Timber, 1 Crowbar, 3 Duct tape
The huge outlier is the Crowbar, as stated earlier.
Section 3: Concluding statements.
This guide was NOT made to make fun of people who use pickaxes.
This guide was only made to inform players that if they would like to become more resource efficient while playing, this guide will show them how.
I really hope this guide will help some of you out at least.
