Conlusion
Stages in WRC 4 are suspect to many moments of deja vu. Those of us who played WRC 3 will have even more deja vu, as layouts in 8 of the 13 countries are unchanged. 4 of the new maps replaced old Y-Shaped stages, leaving only two of these designs behind. The Y maps are the worst for deja vu, as in 6 stages you’ll always repeat each unique stretch 4 times (including in reverse).
We can see that all 5 of the new maps used the closed loop layout, but added a few alternate routes to add variety. Unfortuntaely these alternate sections were very short, maybe 300-500m at most. It is unfortunate they didn’t try to add more with the alternate routes.
Most of the closed loops around 7-9 km in length. We estimate each world is about 3km by 3km.
