Overview
OK, I am not a extremely experienced player (I haven’t even had this game for a week) but I do have a vast knowlege of strategy and sectopod killing (ok that’s a lie i’ve only killed one sectopod and encountered only one). This is for the regular newbie at the game and if you’re experienced at xcom but say is stuck on a mission or want multiplayer tips this is not your guide.
WORKSHOPS VS. LABRATORIES
At one point or the other you going to run into the problem where you either have to focus on workshops or labratories. Which to choose? Workshops, there are a lot of lengthy foundry projects that need to be finished to complete extremely hard missions. Labratories shouldn’t be built as much as it just gives you more projects to work on in the foundry. You don’t need that many scientists to research ghost armor.
Save-Scumming
Save-scumming, almost essential to new players even on just nomal! What save-scumming is, is when you save a game in mid battle or something then if you make a mistake or a soldier dies you just load it and learn from your mistakes. You cannot save-scum if you have ironman mode enabled. No, this is not what most people would shout HAX at, nor a cheat as the game is programmed this way and it’s not exploiting for the same reason. It still provides a challenge and later on in the game if you think you’re ready you can stop scumming and deal with soldiers that are dead or in the hospital wing for a month.
The Army of not 2 but OVER 9000 THIN MEN!
Thin men, they will be one of the largest pains in the ass you can encounter early and later in the game. Not because they’re strong and have a lot of health, it’s because they come in large groups and have extremely good accuracy. 1 hit can do about 6 damage (that’s as far as I’ve seen it go) and almost always get a hit. You lill maybe 1 thin man and there are 8 left, now there’s poison that you can’t go through or else the soldier that went through the poison will lose 1 health each turn unless they have titan armor. Poision is also deadly when thin men spit it at you as a attack. For thin men it’s like the alien grenade except it’s poison not explosives. You can only kill a few thin men at a time and there’s a chance you may miss the target. What they’ll do is just walk up to your soldiers and fire away with all the men, this tactic is also deadly if there are aliens stronger then thin men.
Left 4 Dead zombies that didn’t make the cut
Early on in the game you will encounter the ever so powerful chryssalid, when you first encounter then they are extremely difficult to handle! Rockets and grenades are the natural predator of the chryssalid. Whilw the downside of using theese is that grenades take up your backpack slot, so you can’t equip better things and you can’t shoot rockets if you move that soldier and staying in one place when a chryssalid is about will leave it open for attack. The good thingabout using grenadees is that early on the chryssalids and zombies do a one hit one kill so you wouldn’t need the vest anyway. PROTECT THE CIVILIANS! Not protecting cvilians while there are chryssalids around is that if they kill a civilian they will turn into zombies same rule applies to xcom soldiers.
Smokey The Bear said to prevent wild fires but never said anything about making smoke
Smoke grenades CAN AND WILL save your life. Smke grenades reduce the aliens aim proving to help against thin men and cyberdiscs (although cyberdiscs have better aim then thin men) and other aliens and mechs. If a soldier about to be killed next turn can move, have him/her dash to cover then have somebody throw a smoke greande so the soldier probably won’t get hit.
This is it! For now…
When I have the time to update this post I will with more tips and cover more strategies and other things. Feel free to point out any errors I made or something i should put in.
Special thanks to…
