Overview
This is the gameplay tutorial within XOXO Droplets now in text form!
Out of Game
Welcome to the XOXO Droplets tutorial! There’s a lot to cover, but we’ll try to make it as easy to understand as possible.
On the main menu there are images of the six Main Guys that can react when you hover over them. If you own the free version of XOD the Bae, Jeremy, and Pran images will be locked.
You can click on the unlocked buttons to open galleries specific to each of the guys.
All of the Main Guys have an outfit gallery and CG gallery. Each guy has 4 CGs and 12 outfits. 2 outfits are unlocked from the start, the school uniforms.
When you see a CG it’ll be unlocked in the gallery. You need to see the corresponding outfit conversation to unlock an outfit. An alert bar will pop up to let you know when you’ve unlocked one.
Going on dates in different months, being close with a guy when the summer field trip happens, and going to prom with a guy will get you outfit conversations to unlock outfits in the gallery.
In the ‘More’ section there are one or two options other than this tutorial: Event Settings and Phone Backgrounds. The Phone BG option won’t be there if you own the free version.
The Event Settings page allows you to automatically skip certain types of events. It applies to events that will definitely or likely come up every time you replay the game.
To spare you from having to skip through those events repeatedly you can instead go to that page and turn them off.
Phone Backgrounds is the last option in the More section. On this page you’ll be able to change the background of the in-game cellphone.
There are 12 background options. 6 are unlocked right from the start, the other 6 are unlocked by sitting with a main guy during lunch for the first time.
Basics
This Tutorial will explain the controls of the game as well as the basics of how the gameplay works.
The basic controls of XOXO Droplets are rather straight forward, you move the mouse around and make choices by left-clicking in-game buttons (you can also use the Enter key in some cases).
But there are also some shortcuts that aren’t immediately apparent which will be explained here.
The space bar can be used to move to the next piece of dialog (it can’t be used to press buttons).
Holding down the ctrl key will activate the skip function which quickly scrolls through dialog. The skipping will stop if you stop holding the button down.
Hitting the tab key will cause the game to keep skipping until the button is hit again, you click anywhere in-game, or something not skip-able comes up.
On the Settings screen you can set the skip function to skip all dialogs or only skip parts you’ve already gone through.
By default it will only skip what you’ve already seen.
If you’re using a mouse with a wheel, rolling it up will open the text history screen. The text history shows the dialog that has recently been said. You can also bring up the history by hitting the pg up key.
Right-clicking or hitting the escape key will open the save screen.
Hitting the H key will hide all the screens leaving just the background and character sprites visible (if there are characters there). You can reshow the screens by hitting the H key again or clicking anywhere in-game.
The F key turns fullscreen mode on and off.
Pressing the S key takes a screenshot.
There are various quick keys on the right side of the text box as well.
The three on the left from top to bottom are; opening the save screen, returning to the main menu, and activating skip mode.
The three on the right from top to bottom are; activating auto forward mode, opening the load screen, and opening the settings screen.
That’s all for the game’s controls.
Now the first thing you’ll want to take note of when the actual gameplay begins is the Status Display.
The Status Display is shown in the upper right corner during gameplay portions to keep you updated on important info. It’s hidden during events with other characters.
Across the top of the frame you’ll be able to check what the date is and in the bottom right corner of the display you can see the day of the week.
The very beginning of the game is Friday September 12th, Year 1, but the first few days are events with other characters.
The display won’t appear until September 16th, Year 1. The last gameplay day is July 15th, Year 2. There are various event-only days after that.
The very last day of the game overall is July 23rd, Year 2.
The abbreviated days of the week are ‘Mn’ for Monday, ‘Ts’ for Tuesday, ‘Wd’ for Wednesday, ‘Th’ for Thursday, ‘Fr’ for Friday, ‘St’ for Saturday, and ‘Sn’ for Sunday.
Under the date, in the middle of the display, is a row of flowers. Those represent your Energy. Each time you perform an Action in the game you’ll lose one petal of Energy.
The max amount of Energy you can have at once is 20. Resting, using the Energy Drink item, and letting yourself run out of Energy entirely (thus being forced to break) will restore Energy to max.
It’s important to refresh your Energy because if you use your last petal the next day the MC will refuse to do anything.
Not only will you miss the chance to improve your situtation, you’ll lose a good chunk of Reputation Points with every Clique, which will be discussed later.
Near the bottom left corner of the display you’ll see how much Money you have. You don’t have to have Money to get through the game, but it is very useful for getting the most out of your experience.
You can use money to go on certain dates, get items or accessories, play mini-games, or alter your Luck.
Those will all be explained more later.
You start the game with only $30, but you can gain more by working a part-time job on the weekends.
Besides the status display, there are a few more ways information is given to you.
In some cases when you intend to choose an option an info box will pop up to let you know exactly what you’ll gain and lose in terms of Money, Reputation, Affection, and Energy.
Other times side banners will appear on the right side of the screen after you make a choice to let you know what you gained or lost. Blue banners mean you gained something, red banners mean you lost something.
Banners are used if an info box would have been too obtrusive.
Moving on from the displays to the Clique feature.
There are six ‘Cliques’ in XOXO Droplets and each Clique has ten main members. The Cliques are: Populars, Jocks, Artsies, Nerds, Troublemakers, and Others.
Cliques as a whole are managed with Reputation Points. In order to stay in the game you need to have at least one Clique above the “Danger Zone”, which means they have between 0 and -30 Reputation Points.
Reputation Points won’t go any lower than -30 regardless of what you do. If you have 1 or more Reputation Points the Clique will not be in the Danger Zone.
If all six Cliques fall into the Danger Zone the MC’s parents will force her to transfer back to her old school and the game will end prematurely.
But you can’t really afford to let any Clique fall into the Danger Zone.
Once a Clique is in the Danger Zone their bad opinion of the MC will be strong enough that it will affect her standing with the other Cliques.
Each week you’ll lose Reputation with the other Cliques. Soon more Cliques will get into the Danger Zone and you’ll lose even more Reputation.
So, ignoring any Clique for too long without a prepared safety net will end with a game over.
So how do you go about gaining Reputation?
Going from Monday to Friday will put you in 3-5 situations where your Reputation will change, while on weekends you’ll have 2 opportunities to change it, but you don’t have to take either.
Often times when you gain Reputation with a Clique or Cliques you’ll also lose Reputation with some other Clique or Cliques.
You can give yourself a little boost of Reputation with no loss in some other group’s Reputation by using certain items.
During the first two months of the game Reputation will work slightly differently because of the ‘New Student Mode’. If the MC is still a new student the Cliques will be somewhat more lenient.
That means when you lose Reputation it will be less than the standard amount. For the first month and a half you won’t lose any Reputation and for two weeks after that it will be 50%% less than usual.
After the two months are up, you’ll lose the standard amount of Reputation for the rest of the game.
As mentioned earlier, each of the six Cliques have ten main members. You can ignore them without fear of losing the game, but all 60 of these members have their own Affection level for the MC.
If you reach certain benchmarks of Affection with a member you’ll get a sizeable boost of Reputation with their Clique and you won’t lose Reputation with anyone else.
Those Reputation boosts are pretty much required to reach max Reputation with a clique.
Each of the members has their own Enemy Clique. In some cases gaining Affection with a member means you’ll lose Reputation with their Enemy Clique.
The members have one more important element to them: the Clique Boyfriends. Each Clique has one guy in it who can become the MC’s boyfriend.
That is explained in a later section.
The final features this section will discuss are Actions and Events.
Actions are choices you make during the game that generally have a few effects; there is some change to your Reputation, Affection, and or Money, you lose one petal of Energy, and it causes the day to end.
There are some exceptions where an Action doesn’t cost Energy or doesn’t end the day.
Events are essentially cutscenes, breaks between the gameplay with scripted dialog.
These scenes usually cause the day to end, do not include any choice making, and have no effect on Reputation, Energy, Money, or Affection.
There are cases where Events give boost
Weekdays
On Weekdays there are three different Actions and three types of Events that can occur.
Every Monday the same Action happens: choosing where to sit during lunch. There are two layers to this Action: the area and the exact spot.
There are four areas where you can sit: Cafeteria, Classroom, Outside, and the Nurse’s Office.
The Nurse’s Office works differently than the other three.
The only person there is Nurse Lynn and if you try sitting with him, in most cases, he’ll just insist that you go sit with fellow students and you’ll be taken back to the selection screen.
The point of sitting with him is just to see his Side Conversations. Side Conversations are events with a particular Side Character.
Sitting/attempting to sit with Alicia, Missy, or Lynn four times will activate one of their Side Conversations.
Each Side Character has two regular Side Conversations in this demo. Lynn and Cala also have a short prelude event when you first visit.
Regardless, for the rest of the explanation the Nurse’s Office isn’t relevant.
The other three seating areas determine the effect on your Reputation.
If you sit in the Cafeteria, for example, you’ll gain Reputation with the Populars and Artsies and lose Reputation with the Troublemakers and Others.
It doesn’t matter which exact spot you pick, that’s going to be what’s affected Reputation-wise.
When it comes to exact spots there are 8-9 to pick from in each of those three areas; one spot dedicated to each Clique and two or three spots for specific characters.
The exact spot you pick determines who you gain Affection with.
The ten main members of a Clique are spread out between one certain spot in each of the three areas.
Sitting at a spot with Clique Members will cause you to gain/lose Reputation based on the area and gain Affection with the members at that table.
So, even if you sat at the spot with Troublemakers in the Cafeteria you’d still lose Reputation with the Troublemakers Clique.
After all, Clique Members don’t always fit in perfectly either and sometimes they do things that aren’t approved by their Clique overall. Clique Members always sit at the same spot in the same area every week.
Besides Clique Members you can also sit with a Main Guy, Missy, or Alicia.
Sitting with a Main Guy has the same results as sitting with Clique Members: you gain Affection with the guy and your Reputation is changed by the area.
Sitting with Alicia or Missy won’t gain Affection with either girl because they don’t have an Affection Bar. But your Reputation will be changed like normal.
As mentioned, sitting with them is just to get Side Conversation Events.
The characters are in random Areas each Monday. The guys can be in one of two spots, the other spot they’ll refuse to sit in, and Missy/Alicia can be in any one of the three Areas.
Also during Weekdays two to three Individual Actions will occur.
These Actions focus on just one Individual Member of a Clique or one Main Guy. You’ll randomly be put into a random situation with a random person.
If you’re in an Individual Action with a Clique Member you can either gain Affection with the member and lose Reputation with their Enemy Clique-
Gain Reputation with their Clique and lose Reputation with their Enemy, or lose Reputation with their Clique and gain Reputation with their Enemy Clique.
If you’re in an Individual Action with a Main Guy you can either, gain Affection with the guy and lose Reputation with their Enemy Clique, or Gain Reputation with their Enemy Clique and have no effect on the guy.
Overall Actions happen once every other week on Wednesday and focus on all Cliques or the entire afterschool group of guys.
In these Actions you’re having a special study time and the MC has to decide which three out of the six options she wants to work with.
The first Overall Action features the Cliques, the second includes the Main Guys. It switches back and forth like that for the entire game.
When it comes to Cliques, you’ll gain Reputation with the three you chose and lose Reputation with the three you didn’t.
When it comes to Main Guys you’ll gain Affection with the three you picked and have no effect on the three you didn’t because they don’t care that much.
So, those are the three types of Actions. Now onto the three types of Events.
Group Events are meetings that happen with the MC and her afterschool group of fellow terrible people. There is generally one per month.
Group Events give you an Affection Boost with all six of the Main Guys.
Random Events can happen on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, or Wednesday when there’s no Overall Event. They’re just for fun conversational scenes with no effect on statuses.
There are 30 in the free version of the game and a grand total of 80 in the paid “complete” version of the game.
Some Random Events will not happen unless you’ve met the Side Boyfriend Options. How you meet them is explained in the Shopping tutorial.
The final thing that can happen on a Weekday is essentially nothing at all.
When you have a day when there isn’t an Action or other type of Event you’ll get a little bit of commentary from the MC about her day and that’s it.
Weekends
Every Saturday and Sunday you’ll have the same set of options. They’re very different from the kinds of options you get during the Weekdays.
On Weekdays you generally can only react to what’s presented to you, on Weekends it’s all up to you.
Choosing the pillow button will have the game ask if you want to take it easy for the day. Resting regains your Energy to max.
Clicking the button of two simply drawn people opens the Relationship Info Screen.
This screen shows basic information on your current boyfriend, if you have one. You can break up with your boyfriend or take him out on a date from this screen.
It also allows you to open the Guy List.
The Guy List shows which guys you’ve gotten as your boyfriend at any point of playing the game, even from previous playthroughs.
You can set a guy as your boyfriend without going through any of the normal steps if he’s unlocked on the Guy List.
Checking that screen doesn’tt cost Energy or cause the day to end, so you can do it whenever you want.
Clicking the backpack button will open the Inventory screen. You can see any item you’ve purchased and equip one you’d like to use.
Only one item can be equipped at a time and the equipped item won’t be used until Monday morning.
Equipping an item doesn’t take time or Energy so you can do something else after you’re done.
You can an equip an item once or equip it weekly, where the item is used every Monday until you run out or turn weekly equip off.
Clicking the bow and clips opens the accessory equip screen.
If you unlock the accessory store and have the paid “complete” version of XOD, you can go there on weekends to buy accessories and then attach them to the MC’s image on this screen.
The accessories are broken into six categories; head, hair, ears, face, neck, and ribbons. You can wear one accessory from each category at a time. However, some accessories cancel each other out.
For example, you can’t wear earmuffs and a frog had at the same time.
There are 19 accessories you can buy and 27 in total. Some are special accessories you unlock by reaching certain achievements.
Clicking the piggybank button will open the part-time job selection screen. There are six different businesses to choose from and each one has two tasks you can perform.
The place you work at determines how your Reputation is changed and the exact task you choose determines who you gain Affection with.
Each of the Main Guys works at one of the jobs. They always work at the same place and do the same task.
The first time you work with a guy, you’ll get a Work Conversation with him. If you work there four more times you’ll activate another.
The free version includes 1 work conversation per guy, the complete version has 5 per guy.
Working at the Accessory Store will also unlock the option to visit that store later on.
Working part-time is the only way to gain more money. It counts as an Action and works the way Actions generally do.
Meaning your Reputation/Affection will be changed, you will lose a petal of Energy, and it will cause the day to end.
Clicking the cellphone button will open the Phone Menu. There are three options within the Phone Menu.
The button with the phone symbol on the left lets you choose a character to call.
You can call a Main Guy to set up a date and you can call Missy or Alicia to get information.
Dating is talked about in a different section.
Missy’s info screen shows your situation with the Cliques overall and the ten key members of the Clique.
When you first open Missy’s screen it will have the overall Clique information. The bars show how much, or how little, Reputation you have with the six Cliques.
If the filling of the bar is blue that means you have some Reputation Points.
Above the bar on the right side there are three circles. Those show what Level you’re at with that Clique. If all three are empty that means you’re at Level 0.
If you completely fill the bar you’ll reach Level 1. One of the circles will become blue, and the bar will become empty.
Fill the bar again and you’ll be at Level 2. You’ll need to fill the bar once more after that to make it to the final Level, Level 3.
Gaining Reputation Points will unlock new locations and make it possible to win prom queen in Year 2. Plus if you reach Max Reputation with a Clique that group will like you forever.
That means you’ll never be able to get a game over in that file.
If the bar is completely empty and all three circles are empty that means you don’t have any Reputation.
If the filling is reddish-orange instead of blue that means your Reputation Points are in the negatives and the Clique is in the Danger Zone.
If all six Cliques fall into the danger zone you’ll get a game over.
If you click the ‘Check’ button near a Clique bar it’ll show you information on the ten key members. You’ll be able to see which other Clique they don’t get along with and how much they like the MC.
They also have different levels and, like the Cliques, gaining higher levels with the Individual Members has benefits.
If you reach a new Affection level you’ll get a big boost of Reputation with their Clique and you won’t lose Reputation with their enemy Clique.
Next is Alicia’s info screen. When first opening that you’ll be presented with a button for each of the Main Guys. Click one of those to open the Affection Page for that guy.
There are two pieces of information you can get from this screen; how much Affection the guy has overall and how many Affection Points you have that are ‘useable’.
Looking at the fancy bar on the right side of the screen will tell you how much the guy likes the MC. As with the Cliques and members, the guys also have different levels of Affection.
Though their Levels are represented by hearts, rather than filled and unfilled circles.
You start at Level 0 with no heart icon above the bar. If you fill the bar completely, it will become empty but you’ll have one heart above the bar. Repeat that process for two hearts.
You can only reach Level 3 by filling the Level 2 bar completely and then asking the guy to be your boyfriend. That’s explained later.
The blue box at the bottom middle of the screen shows you how many Affection Points you have left to ‘spend’.
You need to spend 150 Affection Points for the right to date a guy and then 70-100 Affection Points every time you want the guy to go out with you.
Spending Affection Points will not have any effect on the bar, it’ll only make the number in the blue box go down.
Missy’s and Alicia’s screen can often be accessed during the normal week as a button with her face on it in the bottom right corner.
Calling someone doesn’t take much time so after you make your call(s) you can still go back to your day and do something else. Calling doesn’t decrease Energy either.
The middle button on the phone, the crystal ball, will allow you to check your current Luck alteration, if your Luck is currently altered.
That feature is explained in a different section.
The letter button on the right will let you choose one of the Main Guys to chat with over texts for the day. It counts as an Action and works the way Actions generally do.
The first time you text you’ll get a small text chat event. Text four more times to get another. In the free version the guys have 5 texts, in the complete version they have 10.
Back on the main screen, clicking the door button will open the store selection screen. Shopping is covered in its own tutorial.
Shopping
On Weekends you can go out shopping to five different locations. Three are available immediately, but the other two need to be unlocked.
While you’re out you only have time to visit three spots, so if you do unlock more than three locations you won’t be able to visit all of them in one day.
One of the automatically unlocked stores is the Bookstore. You go there by clicking the button with a book in the icon.
It’s run by the Side Character Romeo Franco. This store has six items for sale and they all do basically the same thing.
They are called Variety Items and they raise Reputation with one specific Clique when used.
The second store you’ll get automatically is the Department Store, you go there by clicking the button with the price ticket icon. It’s run by the Side Character Trent Duncan.
You can purchase Gift Items at this store. Gift Items increase Affection with two Clique Members.
They’re wrapped boxes with different colored ribbons. When you buy a Gift Item the color of ribbon partially decides who gains Affection when you use it.
Each Clique member has an icon and the color of the clique icons matches the colors of the different ribbons.
So, if you bought a Gift Item with a blue ribbon you could only give it to Clique Members who have a blue icon.
When you equip a Gift Item you get to choose which Clique you want it to apply to.
After you’ve chosen the Clique it will automatically be scheduled to go to the members of that Clique whose icons match the ribbon.
The Department Store also sells an Energy Drink which restores your Energy to max.
Choosing the button with a four leaf clover icon will take you to the store where Cala hangs out. That’s the last store immediately available.
There are no items to buy, instead she offers a service, the option of changing your Luck.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays there’s a chance an Individual Action will happen. You’ll bump into one of sixty-six possible people.
Obviously, your odds of running into who you want aren’t the best. That’s why Cala’s service can be so handy.
The first step in changing your Luck requires you to decide if you’re going to increase the odds of running into members of specific Cliques or running into certain Main Guys.
You can’t have Luck alterations for both Cliques and Main Guys at the same time.
Next, you’ll need to decide if you’re going to pay 5$ for the service or 15$. The 5$ service makes you play a mini-game to get your alteration. The 15$ choice allows you to choose directly.
You’ll get to choose a Clique/Main Guy for a Gold position, a Silver position, and a Bronze position, in that order. The one in Gold has the best odds, Silver second best, and Bronze third best.
If you play the mini-game it’ll work similarly to a slot machine. Three slots are show with icons for the Cliques or Main Guys.
The icons will flash in a set order over and over until you hit the Stop button. You’ll need to do your best to stop the ‘spin’ on the icon you want.
It goes one slot at a time, so you’ll have to hit the stop button three times before the game is over. After that you’ll have your alteration.
The alteration will last for one month, though you’re free to replace your current alteration with a new one at any time. There’s no discount if you replace your current reading with a new one.
You can check your current Luck alteration by going to the Cellphone screen on a Weekend and pressing the crystal ball button at the bottom-center area of the phone.
You can also enter any cheat codes you know through Cala’s shop. It doesn’t cost money to put in a cheat.
One of the unlockable shops is the Arcade. Once it’s available the button has a tic-tac-toe icon. You unlock this store by gaining a certain amount of Reputation overall.
The Arcade is run by the Side Boyfriend Option Kam Sung. At this store you can purchase the same items as the Department Store and one other item, Swifty Taffy.
Swifty Taffy allows you to skip all the normal Weekday Actions for that week without any loss in Reputation or Affection. Events won’t be skipped.
Instead of Money, you have to get Tickets to purchase items in the arcade. There are two ways to get Tickets.
One is by putting Money into the Ticket Machine. You put 3$ in the machine and randomly get between 1-5 Tickets.
The second method to gain Tickets is by playing the mini-game Tic-Tac-SMACK for $1. The mini-game lasts for 45 seconds and the goal is to rack up as many points as possible by hitting lights when they turn on.
The lights come in two shapes; Os and Xs.
Hitting a light will give you a base amount of points, hitting the same shape twice in a row you get you bonus points, hitting three of the same in a row will gain even more extra points.
Depending on how many points you earn, you’ll get between 1-5 Tickets. 0 Points means 0 Tickets.
1-999 points wins 1 Ticket, 1,000-1,499 wins 2 Tickets, 1,500-1,999 wins 3 Tickets, 2,000-2,499 wins 4 Tickets, and 2,500+ wins 5 Tickets.
The other unlockable shop is the Accessory Store. Once it’s available the button has a necklace icon.
You unlock it by working part-time at the Accessory Store doing either task. This store is run by the Side Boyfriend Option Adrian Wulu.
You can purchase accessories at this store and apply them through the accessory equip screen by clicking the bow button on the main weekend screen.
You can only buy and use accessories if you own the paid “complete” version of XOD.
If you visit any store four times, a … bubble will appear next to the shopkeeper. This means you can watch one of their Side Conversation Events.
Watching a Side Conversation will end the day, so be sure to do all your shopping first.
There are 7 Side Conversations per Side Character. Though Cala and Lynn also have a short prelude event the first time you visit.
You can only get the first 2 conversations for Kam and Adrian if you own the free version.
Boyfriends and Dating
And here it is, the category that matters the most in a dating sim: the boyfriends! In XOXO Droplets there are 14 Boyfriend Options: 6 Main Boyfriends, 2 Side Boyfriends, and 6 Clique Boyfriends.
Main boyfriends are the six guys in the MC’s group, the Side Boyfriends are the two guys around the MC’s age who work at stores in town, and Clique Boyfriends are Individual Members of each of the six Cliques.
The three different boyfriend types all function in different ways, and we’ll go over each here.
It’s important to note that if you own the free version of the game you can only date Everett, Nate, Shiloh, and the Clique guys.
Now, starting with the most important type of boyfriend, the Main Guys: Everett Gray, Nate Lawson, Shiloh Fields, Bae Pyoun, Jeremy King, and Pran Taylor.
Those guys have the most content by far and have no benefits other than that. If you don’t like the guy, you won’t get anything out of pursuing him.
At the beginning of the game those jerks won’t date you. First you’ll have to gain 150 Affection Points. There are various ways to gain Affection, they were explained in previous sections.
Once you have those points you need to call the guy up on a Saturday. You’ll have the option of ‘spending’ the 150 points for the right to date the guy later on.
If you make the exchange then the next time you call the date selection screen will show up.
The guys are finicky and won’t go out on short notice but don’t want to go out on a weekday either, so you need to ask by calling on Saturday and setting the date for the day after on Sunday.
After you set the date you’ll still have time to perform some other Action.
Date Conversations cost between 70-100 Affection Points.
As a reminder, spending affection points doesn’t mean the guy likes you less. It simply means you need to make the guy like you more before he’ll get any closer to you.
On the date select screen you’ll get to pick what date conversation you want at what location.
There are 20 date locations in total, if you count both beach versions as separate spots. There is a beach date location that gives different events in Fall/Winter than it does in Spring/Summer.
The date locations are spread between five areas; School, City, Park, Beach, and Out of Town. In general there’s no difference between areas.
The one exception is the School. Dates at the school are free, dates anywhere else cost $10 along with the cost of Affection Points.
Initially not all date locations will be available. Once you unlock a spot, you’ll unlock it forever.
Here’s exactly how you unlock all locations-
Work part-time at the Hobby Shop and Accessory Store to get those as date spots.
Have 500 Reputation Points overall to unlock the Arcade.
Have 700 Reputation Points overall to unlock the Amusement Park and Haunted House.
Have 1,000 Reputation Points overall to unlock the Winter/Fall and Spring/Summer beach.
Have 200 Reputation Points with the Populars to unlock Fuchsia.
Have 200 Reputation Points with the Jocks to unlock the Archery Range.
Have 200 Reputation Points with the Nerds to unlock the Botanical Garden.
Have 200 Reputation Points with the Artsies to unlock the Museum.
Have 200 Reputation Points with the Troublemakers to unlock the Karaoke Joint.
Have 200 Reputation Points with the Others to unlock the Countryside.
Get the first 2 Side Conversations with anyone other than Kam or Adrian to unlock the Indoor Pool.
Get the first 2 Side Conversations with Kam to unlock the Game Center.
Get the first 2 Side Conversations with Adrian to unlock the Zoo.
Ask one of the main guys to be your boyfriend to unlock the Tunnel of Love.
The bar alerting you to a date location being unlocked normally appears only on the weekend, so sometimes it won’t appear the moment you’ve met the requirement.
The school date spots are available automatically.
The Main Guys have 20 date conversations, though only 16 are available if you’re playing the free version.
Even though it’s an even 20-20 split, the guys don’t have dates at every date location. There are some spots they just won’t go to.
Instead there are “mini-stories”. A mini-story is a series of two to three date conversations that are set at the same date spot and have continuity between each other.
The third date conversation in a mini-story is locked unless you have the guy as your official boyfriend.
The tunnel of love and swimsuit date (at the Spring/Summer Beach or the Indoor Pool) are also locked unless the guy is your boyfriend.
As you raise Affection to keep getting dates you’ll eventually fill the two heart affection bar entirely. That is max friendship. If you want to get even closer your only option is to make the guy your boyfriend.
When you fill the two heart affection bar, a new button will appear on the date selection screen. The button has the same design as the relationship Info Screen’s button on the Weekend Menu.
Hitting that button will give you the option to make the guy your official boyfriend. Say “yes” and you’ve done it.
The Relationship Info screen will start displaying his info and you’ll be able to open the date select screen through that info screen if you don’t wanna go through the phone menus.
If you want you can choose to break up with him through the Relationship Info screen.
That’ll decrease his Affection Points by 2,000. And it’ll decrease from the overall bar, not just the ‘spendable’ Affection Points.
Okay, next are the Side Boyfriends: Kam Sung and Adrian Wulu. They have significantly less content, but aren’t jerks and give a special bonus if you have one of them as your boyfriend.
Kam lets you play the game Tic-Tak-Smack for free and Adrian unlocks all Accessories in the Accessory store without you having to buy them.
You romance a Side Boyfriend by visiting the store he works at many times in order to get all 7 of his Side Conversations. In the 7th event the guy will explain what you need to do in order to progress further.
For Kam you’ll need to have 100 arcade Tickets on hand, for Adrian you’ll need to have bought at least 8 accessories from the Accessory Store.
When that requirement has been met you’ll have to return to the store again and hit the … button to get the guy to be your official boyfriend.
After that the Relationship Info screen will display his info and from that screen you’ll be able to take him out on a date.
Kam and Adrian both have three dates and they don’t function exactly like the Main Guys.
The date happens the same day you ask and you can go out on Sunday as well as Saturday.
You also don’t get to choose through the date select screen. The events simply happen after you decide you want to go out.
You can break up with a Side Boyfriend from the Relationship Info Screen. Breaking up means you lose all the boyfriend related stuff, but there are no consequences.
Finally there are the Clique Boyfriends: Jason, Ralph, Davis, Mateo, Rex, and Waldo. They have no content in terms of art or events. They’re only there for the special bonus effect. The effects are-
Jason; You’ll get five Swifty Taffy each Saturday
Ralph; Unlocks all date locations
Rex; Triples the use of Gift items and Variety items
Mateo; You’ll be paid $60 for any job you do
Davis; Your energy is refreshed to full at the start of every Monday
Waldo; You’ll no longer lose Reputation Points
To get a Clique Boyfriend you’ll need to get his Affection to max and meet a specific requirement. The requirement for each guy is-
Jason; Get the other nine members of his Clique to 100 Affection at least
Ralph; Unlock 5 date locations in one playthrough
Rex; Get all 7 Side Conversations with someone other than Adrian and Kam
Mateo; Have him at Max Affection, get to Level 3 in any part-time job
Davis; Have Nerds at 1,000 Reputation at least
Waldo; Have at least 200 Reputation Points with all six Cliques
If you’ve met both of those steps a pop up window will appear asking if you want to make the guy your boyfriend.
As mentioned, the special effect is the only thing that
Other Events & Endings
In previous sections we’ve talked about Side Conversations, Work Events, Outfit Conversations, Random Events, Group events, and Date Conversations, but there’s still more content.
The explanation of these events can be considered somewhat spoiler-ish. Unless you’re sure you’re only going to play XOD once, we suggest reading this section after your first playthrough.
Alright, for starters an unusual event that will happen on October 11th in Year 1. You’ll be asked to attend a house party or not. If you don’t attend, the game progresses like usual.
If you do attend you’ll meet a new character, Lucas Kaiser. For the next few months you’ll get more events featuring Lucas but in January things with him will simply stop.
That’s because Lucas is a bonus 15th Boyfriend Option. However, his route has not been implemented yet. It will be included as a free update to the paid version of XOD after it’s sold 1,000 copies.
At the end of July in Year 1 your whole group will spend three days on a field trip. Most of the time is spent on events that happen automatically. However, there are a couple things to shoot for.
If you have enough Affection with a Main Guy to be at the one heart bar with him you’ll get a special pajama event as well as his pajama outfit conversation.
And if you’ve gotten him all the way up to the two heart bar you’ll get a second special pajama event.
As we mentioned previously, you’ll need 150 Affection Points before a Main Guy will even consider dating you. But when you spend those points you’ll get a bonus ‘right to date conversation’ event.
If you fill the two heart bar entirely, you’ll be able to make a Main Guy your boyfriend through the date select screen. When you choose to do that you’ll get a “be my boyfriend event”.
Kam and Adrian also have a be my boyfriend event when you select their … bubble for the 8th time after meeting their specific requirement.
The Friday after you become an official couple will bring you another new event, a “relationship announcement scene”. In that event your afterschool group is informed of your new boyfriend.
If you get Kam or Adrian as a boyfriend you’ll also get a relationship announcement scene.
If you do get a Main Guy as your boyfriend you’ll start getting some extra special random events.
As we explained previously, during the week you can randomly get events. When you have a Main Guy boyfriend some of those events will be exclusive to dating that certain guy.
Each of the Main Guys has 8 boyfriend random events.
In May of Year 2 there’s senior prom. If you have a Main Guy as your boyfriend in early May you’ll get a scene where the two agree to go to prom together.
Near the end of the month the prom scene will happen. That’s also where you get the prom outfit conversation.
During prom, a prom king and queen will be chosen. By default the winner is Missy, however if you have a good amount of Reputation Points you can win instead. That will get you a small bonus conversation.
If Kam or Adrian is your boyfriend you’ll get a small scene that explains why the boy isn’t able to be your date at prom.
If you’re single or have a non-Main Guy boyfriend the MC goes to prom by herself. She can still win prom queen.
In July of Year 2 the game begins to end. There are a variety of events that happen over the final week.
On Saturday the 16th you’ll get congratulation letters. Your family sends one automatically and you can also get a letter from any part-time job you worked at many times.
On Sunday the 17th you’ll get goodbye scenes with Romeo, Cala, and or Trent if you saw all of their Side Conversations.
On Monday the 18th you’ll have the final group meeting. If you have a Main Guy as your boyfriend you’ll also get a “break-up or not” scene.
In that scene you’ll have the option to end your relationship on good terms. This will allow you to get his friendship ending instead. Or you can keep the thing going to get his boyfriend ending.
On Tuesday the 19th you’ll get the Kam and or Adrian goodbye scenes if you saw all their Side Conversations.
Wednesday is when you’ll see the goodbye scenes for Alicia, Missy, and Lynn, again, only if you’ve seen all their Side Conversations.
Thursdays is friend endings for Everett, Nate, and Shiloh. You have to be close to the guy, but not have him as your boyfriend.
Friday is friend endings for Bae, Jeremy, and Pran.
Interspersed between the events on Saturday-Friday can be one-line comments from the individual Clique Members. If you raised their Affection a bit they’ll give you a quick goodbye or congrats.
There’s one for all 60 Clique Members in the game.
And finally, Saturday July 23rd. This day has the closing scene and final walk. The closing scene has the MC clearing out her room while making comments about her various achievements.
Making a lot of money, unlocking many new locations, becoming prom queen, etc.
If you’ve reached certain achievements the game will tell you cheat codes during this event.
After that it’s time for you to walk to the graduation ceremony. If you have a Clique Boyfriend or are single you’ll walk by yourself.
If you have a Main Boyfriend or Side Boyfriend you’ll spend the last event of the game with him. Then the credits will roll.
But if you’re friends with all the Main Guys and don’t have any of them as your boyfriend, you’ll get a special extra event after graduation. The MC will gather the group together one last time.
And that’s it for the tutorial. We hope you enjoy XOXO Droplets!
