YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z - Japanese Dub! {wip} for YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z

YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z – Japanese Dub! {wip}

Overview

The english voices are fine… …What? you still want the japanese dub? you know what this game is, right? …Alright fine, you win…Here’s a guide to mod in the Japanese audo with subtitles text! (… for everything execpt in-combat dialogue)

Part 0: Disclaimer!

Hey! thanks for checking out my guide!

PLEASE NOTE: This is not intended for use on your first playthough.

For the most part, this works great!

The cinematics play fine with Japanese audio, and English text, menu’s are English, and the in game prompts are English, and all the in game speech is in Japanese!

…but, the in game chatter subtitles do not work.

It’s limited to JUST the talking that happens mid-fights, but it’s enough that you may miss some dialogue.

…but if you’ve played the game before, it’s not as big of a deal, as I said, all the important pre-rendered stuff has proper English subs!

Part 1: Audio

Steam has the option to change the games language, It’s really handy.

But unfortunately, it’s an all or nothing change. No option for english subs.

That’s what the mod’s for!

So for part 1, change your game to japanese.
Right click on the game, and select ‘properties’

Then click ‘language’ and select ‘Japanese’

Part 2: In game text

Next we’ll be adding in English In game text

First go to this folder:Yaiba Ninja Gaiden ZNRZGameLocalization

Then you should see a few folders, rename ‘JPN’ to something else, for example ‘JPN-old’

Now you pick your native language,
ESN = Spanish,
FRA =French,
INT=English
And rename that folder ‘JPN’

Now go inside your new ‘JPN folder, and rename the end of all the files (except DO_NOT_DELETE.txt) to .JPN

Example: Base.int becomes Base.jpn

Part 3: Pre-Rendered Cinematics!

This is a bit more confusing.

First, browse to: Yaiba Ninja Gaiden ZNRZGameMovies

Then rename all the .TXT files that end with ‘_JPN’ for example, you could rename “LS_Default_JPN.txt” to “LS_Default_JPN_OLD.txt

Then there should still be some untouched TXT files left, Rename all of those remaining files, adding _JPN to the end.

For example: “LS_Default.txt” would become “LS_Default_JPN.txt”

Now all the Pre-rendered Cinematics will have English subs!

Part 4: In-combat Subtitles {WIP}

I have yet to find out where they are stored.

When I find out, I’ll update this guide.

Bonus Section! English Error messages!

To make the game engine also use english test for debugging,

Repeat ‘Part 2’ with this folder: Yaiba Ninja Gaiden ZEngineLocalization

Again, rename the JPN folder, then rename INT (english) to JPN, and change the file extntions to .jpn
