Overview

An official guide to help you go through the horrors of Helltown!

Getting Chased

STAMINA

There is a stamina system in Helltown. When you run (hold SHIFT) you can see a white bar at the top of your screen shrinking. Once it is depleted, you’ll have to wait for a few seconds while your stamina fills up.

GETTING HIT

When a bad guy hits you, you’ll stumble. Press SHIFT again to keep running! After 2 hits, it’s night night.

HIDING

In Helltown, you can hide from the monsters chasing you at specific spots. Be on the lookout for green drapes or hanging skeletons.

Simply get behind these covers and wait for the monsters to pass by. However, they can still see you hiding if they’re too close, so watch out.

Day 1, The New Job

PROGRESS

Go to the post-office and talk to George. Check the deposit box to collect a package. You’ll have to deliver all the packages to their corresponding addressee (their name is inscribed on the package icon). Once you’re done, you can end the day by entering the hotel.

Day 2, The Spider and the Fly

PROGRESS

Once you have delivered the bloody package and the letter, you’ll get from the post-office deposit box a round stone tablet. It will guide you towards the entrance of a cave near the old shack.

Day 3, The Aftermath

PROGRESS

There are 3 symbols you need to activate in order to enter the church.

  • In the wooden maze at the construction site.
  • Near the central tree (enter the street by walking on a plank at the beginning of the street, near the Little Vale sign).
  • In the cave near the old shack.

Once you’ve activated them all, head for the church.

Death

PROGRESS

If you get killed by a monster inside the death realm, you’ll get sent back to the beginning of the level you were playing before entering the death realm. There is a way to complete this level and skip the level you were playing before dying.

Search for the room with the giant:

Pick up the gramophone and search for the draped figures. Stand near them and wait for a few seconds, they should start to disappear. There are 6 draped figures.

You can access the death realm by entering the portal on Day 3, The Aftermath (near the river, next to the construction site).

Every time you enter the death realm, the layout will change.

Inside the Church

PROGRESS

Start by searching for this room:

Pick up the head and place it on this corpse:

Every time you die, the layout of the church will change.

The Good Ending (the stone that whispers)

HOW TO

You have to interact with the Stone of Whispers inside the cave near the old shack on three separate occasions:

  • Day 1, The New Job
  • Day 2, The Spider and the Fly
    (make sure to interact with the Stone before collecting the last package)
  • Day 3, The Aftermath
    (the Stone of Whispers will be located behind the church this time)

You’ll then have to go to the well in front of the old shack in order to progress.

PROGRESS

Inside Lilith’s castle, you’ll have 3 ways of progressing.

  • 1- Go down into the library and walk past the monster.
  • 2- Go into the kitchen and pull on the hooked meat. A passage will open in the study room downstairs.
  • 3- Inside the study room, on a pile of books, there is the key for the second door in the dinning room.

The Secret Ending (collect the runes)

HOW TO

You have to collect all of Lilith’s runes. There are 3 runes in 4 different levels, for a total of 12.

Day 1, The New Job
  • In the dump behind the construction site, to the left of the homeless’ house.
  • At the construction site, inside the wooden maze.
  • Inside the cave next to the old shack. Take the tunnel in front of the Stone of Whispers, then turn right.
Day 2, The Spider and the Fly
  • In the dump behind the construction site, to the right of the homeless’ house.
  • In the house in construction next to the general store.
  • To the very left side of the cliff above the river.
Night 2, The Ceremonial Night
  • On the flipped bench near the church.
  • On the billboard in front of the hotel.
  • On the Little Vale sign.
Day 3, The Aftermath
  • At the construction site, on one of the center pillars.
  • Next to the drugstore, on one of the stakes.
  • On your delivery truck, by the river.

You’ll then need to enter the old shack.

The Dog Ending (give the dog a bone)

HOW TO

On Day 1, The New Job, Search for a small rock formation next to the hotel and the construction site. Pick up the bone and give it to the dog in the dump.

Proceed by delivering all the packages and going into the hotel. After Night 1, Light Sleeper, you should now be playing as the dog. Follow the scent to the cave next to the old shack.

PROGRESS

Once you break the red barrier (SHIFT) and enter the black cloud, head northeast. Once you traversed the cave, head north-west. You should stumble onto several rock formations. They indicate the sequence in which the flames on the elevator should be lit (use SHIFT to light them).

Achievements

Except for these two, achievements will be unlocked by completing the different endings.

TALL GIANT

Near the end of the street where the general store is, there’s a large stone structure. You’ll have to get close and inspect it on 3 different days: Day 1, The New Job; Day 2, The Spider and the Fly; Day 3, The Aftermath.

KITTY KITTY

Walk along the street where the drugstore is and head toward the cliff wall. There should be a rock formation and a small bush if you follow the wall in the direction of the old cabin. stand in the bush and look into the gap. There he is!

Troubleshooting

CONTROLS
  • W – walk foward
  • A – walk left
  • S – walk backward
  • D – walk right
  • Hold SHIFT – run
  • E – interact
  • F – toggle flashlight
  • ESC – pause
  • F11 – toggle fullscreen

SAVE DATA

You can always delete your save data with the trashcan icon in the options menu. If you encounter a bug or if there’s a problem with the game’s progression, this option might solve it.
