Zer0's PERSONAL GUIDE TO BASIC MODDING for Fallout: New Vegas

Zer0’s PERSONAL GUIDE TO BASIC MODDING

Overview

Just a guide to help a good ol buddy enjoy fallout NV in all its glory without problemsbe ready to give a decent amount of your time but don’t worry. It’ll ALL BE WORTH IT

The SETUP

FIRST OF ALL LETS GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

You’re gonna wanna open Fallout: New Vegas if you JUST INSTALLED and haven’t opened it for the first time.

This part is crucial because fallout needs to setup some files before all the mods we’re gonna install work.

NEXT you’re gonna wanna download nexus mod manager in which you can download HERE[www.nexusmods.com]

And You should probably make an account for the site too cause I believe you might need(?) a login to download mods and the manager. if not for the manager then for the mods.

AFTER YOU INSTALL

you’re gonna be introduced with this lovely image

and you’re gonna wanna click the green checkmark on your Fallout: New Vegas game.

After that you can just click on the “Stop Searching” button and the “OK” Button.

its gonna ask you to “Select the game you would like to manage” just click “Fallout: New Vegas: and “OK”.

then another window will pop-up and tell you that your fallout file is “Read-only” and will ask you if you wanna turn it into NOT read-only. Just click OK (After that, it won’t ask you again)

then another menu will pop-up… Just click “Finish”

Then ANOTHER MENU WILL POP-UP… For gods sake click “Yes”

now close Nexus mod manager. and then run nexus mod manager in administrator mode.

After this click the cogwheel to open the settings

Then make sure all three boxes are checked.

Now we can continue

Still THE SETUP

Now that you have nexus setup and ready to go. We’re gonna leave that closed for now. so just exit the program and we’ll open it later.

Go ahead and go to this site right HERE[nvse.silverlock.org] and download the STABLE VERSION.

you can find it. its not hard to miss.

its going to come in a zip file. and when you open it. Its gonna look like this:

now go to where your Fallout: New Vegas is installed. And if you don’t know how to do it.

go to your steam library, find fallout new vegas and right-click it, then goto properties>local files>browse local files

and it SHOULD open up your fallout directory.

This is what MINE looks like. Don’t worry there are some files that don’t exist in your directory but we’ll get there. We’re almost at the fun part.

Open the zip file again and select everything that was inside that folder and drag it into your fallout directory if it asks you to replace some files. say yes for all.

AND after installation keep your directory open because we’re almost there.

now with nvse installed. Open Nexus mod manager and you should see a drop-down button next to your “Launch Fallout NV” Button.

Click it and select “Launch NVSE”

let it run a few seconds then you can close it.

The Road for a SMOOTH FALLOUT EXPERIENCE

everything is almost done for the basic smooth experience… I hope.

NOW we’re gonna install this 4GB Fallout New Vegas Updated[www.nexusmods.com] mod.

BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD MANUAL

As the name implies its a mod that allows fallout new vegas to use 4gb of ram instead of its default. (I don’t really know what its defaults were but for sure it used less ram than 4GB)

This is highly reccomended if you have more than 8gb of ram.

but once you download the mod. everything in the file should look like this.

drag everything from the zip and into your fallout new vegas directory.

now if you have your nexus open. you’re going to have to close it and re-open it so nexus can recognize the fallout 4gb.

now how we opened NVSE through nexus. launch Fallout NV4Gb and it should now run Fallout New Vegas using 4GB of ram and NVSE

Go ahead and close it after its done opening. and using nexus were going to install two mods.

New Vegas Stutter Remover[www.nexusmods.com]

and

Zan AutoPurge Crash Protector[www.nexusmods.com]

This time click the NMW button next to downloads and it’ll send the mods straight to the mod manager to downloading

(you might have to set it to where it will remember to open nexus mod manager when it asks you)

after the mods are done downloading… you should find it in these folders.

double-click the mods to install them and you should be done!

(A green checkmark should appear next to them showing that they were installed)

Finale

There you have it! it should be smooth sailing from here on out. if not just minimal crashes and little to no stutters on your fallout adventure!

remember to have steam open and then open fallout through nexus mod manager if you want these mods to work.

if you want to explore modding in more ways than one then check this guide out!
