Zetrith’s Multiplayer: Changing the Colony Limit

Overview

Guide for how to change the default colony limit (5) when playing multiplayer on Zetrith’s Multiplayer mod.Zetrith’s Multiplayer mod can be found here: https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=47445.0You will have to temporarily close the server in order to change the colony limit.[PLEASE NOTE]: Having multiple colonies in Zetrith’s Multiplayer will likely cause issues/bugs and possible de-sync’s to occur, especially when using mods. The following guide was made and tested using Core and Zetrith’s Multiplayer Version 0.4.4.

Changing the Colony Limit

Step One:

Preparing for new colonies and saving and exiting the game.

Firstly, in your multiplayer game, position the caravan(s) over the tile that you want to settle them on.
Example Below: 5 Players have set up their own settlements and 3 more have positioned themselves where they would like to settle.
Now, click `Escape` and `Save Replay`
Name the world something you will remember.
Now quit to the main menu.

Step Two:

Converting the world to singleplayer.

In the main menu, click `Multiplayer` and navigate to `Host`, then select on the world you just saved and click the `Watch` button.
Once you have loaded into the world, press `Escape` and click the `Convert to singleplayer` button on the escape menu.
After this, click `Escape` once more and save the world as something you will remember, this time it will save into your singleplayer worlds.
Exit to the main menu after saving.

Step Three:

Changing RimWorld settings.

Now that you are in your main menu, open `Options` click the `Open save data folder` button under the `Gameplay` category, your file explorer (or the default file navigating application, hereafter referred to as file explorer) should pop up.
Once file explorer has opened go back to RimWorld and exit the game.
Back to file explorer, go into the `Config` folder and open `Prefs.xml` in a text document editor (e.g. Notepad++, Notepad, Wordpard, NOT Microsoft Word).
Scroll down the document until you find the line that says:
<maxNumberofPlayerSettlements>5</maxNumberOfPlayerSettlements>
It should be defaulted at 5, change this to how ever many settlements you wish to have currently.
Now save that document and close file explorer.
Now you can open up RimWorld again, and after clicking `Options` on the main menu you should be able to slide the `Maximum number of colonies` slider up to whatever you previously set it as.
After doing this return to the main menu.

Step Three:

Adding the new settlements in-game.

Click `Load game` and load the (previously converted) singleplayer world.
Go into the world tab and click on each caravan individually and settle them. You should now have >5 settlements.
Once you have done this simple press `Escape` and click the `Host a server` button.

Conclusion

Thank you for using this guide, I genuinely hope that it helped you to understand how to get more settlements in the game when playing multiplayer.

I would love any feedback you have for this guide as this is my first ever one and I’m not the best at explaining stuff (sometimes I go too into detail and sometimes not enough into detail).

Again, thank you for reading! If it for some reason didn’t work for you or if you have any more questions, feel free to contact me on Steam (I am also on the Zetrith’s Multiplayer Discord)!
