1. Introduction

Welcome Your Majesty to your kingdom! Here you are king or queen of the territory left and right of your… campfire? Yes! You certainly want to rule more of the land and its people so that you can afford to have a castle of stone… because at night the evil is coming to get your crown and end your game…errr… reign. Your goal is to defend yourself and destroy the spawning points of your enemy – 4 portals, 2 left and 2 right of your campfire. And every night the hordes of darkness dwell bigger and tougher and there are creatuers as high as walls or even able to fly…. So hurry up your majesty, don’t waste too much time…

2. The rules

1. Don’t get caught by your enemy. If you lose your crown, the game ends and you have to start
from scratch.

2. The world is generated procedurally but at every end of the map there are two portal, that must be destroyed

3. The enemy is getting tougher each night AND there ist a bloodmoon every fifth night that sends more monsters. But the night AFTER bloodmoon is enemy-free.

4. You can defend yourself with walls, towers, catapults and archers, craft with workers, earn more money with farmers and attack with knights.

5. You have won, if you destroy the portals and the enemy spawn after the destruction.

3. Gamemechanics

  • The Castle

You can upgrade your campfire 5 times. Every level-up provides new advanteges:

  • Level 1 – Smith and Armorer
  • Level 2 – Free woodwalls at both ends of your fortress
  • Level 3 – Toolmaker
  • Level 4 – Catapults
  • Levle 5 – Free stonewalls and watchtowers at both ends of your fortress
  • Level 6 – Knights

A Goldchest with taxes is situated in front of your castle in the morning when the bells ring. The tax-incomes will be less with a castle at level 6 so don’t upgrade higher than level 5 unless you have a good gold-source. You can fill weapon- and toolracks so that free minions can take what they need when in town. Filling the racks can be done by merchants, too, but you can’t have influence on which rack he will fill. Later on you can summon knights, 2 on both side of your kingdom. at the castlewall you can see if you are searching for a knight (shield at wall) and what the status of your knight is:

  • normal flag – your knight is alive
  • destroyed flag – your knight is killed
  • Camps in the wood

People will join your party for 1 gold (drop it by hitting ‘s’). They will walk to your castle and wait if no weapon- or toolrack is filled. Attacked they lose one gold and you have to recruit them once more. Don’t harvest the last tree in front of a camp, otherwise it will be destroyed. Equipped, your minions produce gold with archery, felling trees or planting, and archers will defend your kingdom.

  • Portals

Portals spawn monsters at night and when you get to close to them. After a bloodnight they are inactive and can be passed to reach structures behind them or explore or even attack them. If destroyed there comes an army of enemies. You can build own portal on the ruins of a destroyed portal to teleport yourself.

  • Statues

There are three statues in the game:

  • Builderstatue – feed it and achieve faster builders and tougher walls for 1-2 days.
  • Archerstatue – you achieve higher accuracy and damage for archers.
  • Wood/Stonestatue – let’s you upgrade your castle to lvl 5 and higher. Needed for stonewalls.

They can be found behind portals, too.

  • Walls and Towers

Walls and towers can be upgraded several times. Stone is accessible after activating the wood-/stonestatue. At evening most of your minions stay behind walls. Mostly the wall the farest right or left of your kingdom. Archers on towers shoot better and at tower-level-2 can’t be reached by goblins and trolls. Walls can be build on piles of dirt, towers on piles of rock.

  • Farms and mills

You can upgrade a farm to a mill. You will then have a better income but farmers will go to your farmers in the evening, millers do not! They stay at the mill and have to be protected by a wall. They produce the most income.

4. Minions

  • Archers

Archers hunt rabbits (1g) and deer (3g) to produce money. They man towers but then they won’t hunt any more. Important to know: the man towers despite any danger (e.g. at night). At night they group behind walls to defend your kingdom.

  • Workers

They build and repair structures and they build and man catapults. If not needed, they stay in the castle, but they go for work at night, if commanded. They can fell trees to access new building points.

  • Catapults

They go to the farest wall left or right and you can just have 1 per side. They can hit several targets but your troops as well.

  • Knights

Every knight takes 3 archers as military unit when summoned. First thing a knight will do is to go to his flag that is situated in front of the farest wall left or right. Take care when an attack takes place. Then knight won’t stop at the wall at his first arrival. Afterwards he will go behind the wall at night. You can have 2 knights each side, and when you order them to attack at their flag, both will go to fight the portal.

  • Farmers and millers

They produce the most gold. Farmers go back to the castle at night, millers stay at the mill and have to be protected.

  • Your horse

Speed up your horse by pressing shift when riding, but they cannot run if exhausted, so feed them at pile of grass (just stand still).

5. The enemy

  • Goblins

Goblins come in masses and are very quick, they even can jump. They can easily can be killed by an arrowshot, in case they don’t wear a mask. They try to steal gold, weapons, tools and…. your crown.

  • Trolls

Trolls are very tough but slow, but they can throw stones to hit several targets behind a wall. They are a serious threat to walls but can’t reach archers in level-2-towers.

  • Flying demons

They catch 1-2 people from towers or from behind walls and fly away with them, of not killed fast enough.

6. Tactical suggestions

1. Expand and attack after a bloodmoon, then you have 2 full days and 1,5 nights to do something without having the nightly enemy-spawn.

2. Try to find certain constellations of piles of rock and piles of dirt that group. These are perfect defending points.

3. Try to keep as many camps as possible for as long as possible. Easy recruitable minions is the most essential ressource in the game.

4. If you build many towers, you have to recruit even more archers to man them and the walls. (see 3)

5. The merchant will not be attacked by the enemy. If you did invest in him, he will definately go to your town to fill a rack.

6. You can see your actual round by pressing ESC.

7. Goblins can be gotten rid of by throwing gold on the ground. Most effective are coins under towers. Goblins try to escape with the coins and don’t fight and the archers can kill them… The coin drops on the ground and bait the next goblin.

8. If you want to expand build up the towers first and then the wall in one go. Bloodmoon leaves you the most time for that. If a new wall ist built, alls archers and the catapult will go their for the night. If your wall is to weak, your whole army will be killed easily.

9. Don’t build to close to portals or your archers will provoke the portal to spawn monsters endlessly.

10. In higher levels, use the statues. The buffs are a great help.

11. Portals you built yourself are a great help to hire minions, even if one side is cleared of portals (see the long video).

12. Very important: Make a good decision of building a farm or a mill. Both have advantages. In the lategame you often use own portals to go to your town. I’m happy to find farmers there, who provide money i couldn’t collect because of teleporting otherwise. To expand at the front i suggest having mills nearby, which provide money at your far outposts.

13. Please excuse translation errors i made. 😉

8. Suggested upgrade sequence at the beginning

It depends a little bit on how you start but I would suggest you search for a goldchest on the left side of the town first. You can restart the game unless you find one, you only lose loading time. (This only works, if you deactivate the tutorial). On the way back to your campfire, hire as many units as you can but keep at least 3 gold (for the first town-upgrade and an archer) and concentrate on archers first. They generate income right from the start and defend your town. Take the first town-upgrade. I would recruit units on both sides of your camp and build archers till round 3, they can even defend the camp without walls in the first rounds. If you find the wood/stone monument, activate it as soon as possible.

At round 2: Upgrade your town to lvl 2. Recruit minions. Build archers.

At round 3: Build 1-2 workers and upgrade the town to lvl 3. You should get the first wooden walls for free. Reach a farmspot by felling trees.

At round 4: Build the farm, hire a farmer. Do not upgrade near farms to mills because in later rounds you want to havea few farmers in your town at night to provide their income there. Build a wooden wall (lvl 2) and a tower on the right side of your toolmaker, minions will stay there at night and get hurt at attacks otherwise. Upgrade your Camp to lvl 4.

At round 5: Upgrade your town to lvl 5 to get free stone walls and watchtowers. See that the walls are built before bloodmoon. After bloodmoon, go for recruitement. You’ve got time till evening of day 7.

At round 6-9: Build a stone wall and a tower on the left side of your catapultmaker. Upgrade to stonewall on the right side of your toolmaker. Build 4 workers and the two catapults. Decide on which side you want to expand and just expand this way and leave the other side just highly defended. Take in consideration, that you want to keep as many camps as possible.

From here on, it’s on you how to progress and it depends on how your world has been generated.
