The Forest Combat Guide for The Forest

The Forest Combat Guide

Overview

Welcome! Hello there crash survivor! If you’re are planning on surviving out in the dangerous world of The Forest, you’re going to need to know what kinds of enemies are ahead, and how to fight these enemies. So without further adieu, let’s begin this guide! Blocking ! Before I even begin to get too deep into this guide, I have to emphasize something. Blocking is the key to the combat in this game. The enemies hit hard in The Forest, so if you aren’t ready to block their attacks you won’t survive very long. To block, you must press and hold mouse 2. You should try to always have your block up unless you’re running or attacking during combat. If you do this, you won’t have to worry exactly when your enemy will attack. When to attack ! There are good and bad times to lower your guard and try to damage your opponent in The Forest. A bad time would be when an enemy is charging towards you, or when an enemy is preparing to attack you. The best time to attack an enemy is either when you’re sneaking up behind them, when they appear to just be standing there, or when they are screeching at you. The Bow The bow is a useful ranged weapon for defending from a high point or trying to kill enemies at a safe distance. From my experience, I must say it takes getting used to. The aiming is difficult to control since in the game there is no reticle. But once you get used to it, you can be safe and deadly at the same time. A bow can be crafted with a stick, cloth, and rope. Armor There isn’t much to say about armor. Armor protects you from damage you would normally recieve in your health bar. It’s a small yellow bar next to your health bar that increases if you use lizard skin in your inventory. So obviously, you’ll need to kill lizards to obtain the armor. In terms of crafting it the armor is simple, just click on it in your inventory and it will be applied to your arm. When you recieve damage with armor on, your armor health decreases. Fire! You know what comes in handy when you’re trying to kill something? No, not a gun. Fire! Fire is one of your best friends in The Forest, but not just for food and warmth. Fire is extremely effective in combat, for obvious reasons. How do you do this you ask? Well allow me to tell you a few different ways you can possess these pyromania related weapons! Fire axes! That’s right, simply apply cloth to your axe and voila! Once you’ve crafted it, simpy pull it out and press L to light it on fire for a few seconds. While it is lit, approaching a cannibal will set them aflame! That’s not all, apply cloth to booze to create a molotov cocktail! Throwing this at the ground will burst it and set cannibals around it on fire, and the same rules apply when directly hitting a cannibal with one. Cannibals can also be set on fire if they are dumb enough to run through your lit campfire. Remember when I mentioned guns? Well, The Forest is no Call of Duty title but we have our own kind of gun. No, not a shotgun. A flare gun! As long as you have rounds for it, you can use this accurate firearm to shoot your enemies! They will set on fire, or if weak enough will just fall back dead. But flare gun rounds are a rare thing to come by, so don’t waste them! Bombs Pretty straight forward, made with a circuit board, booze, coins, and a wrist watch. Throw it, big boom. For sticky bombs simply apply tree sap to your bomb. Apply a head to your bomb to make a head bomb. Throw these bombs into groups of cannibals to blow them to hell! Cannibals The normal cannibal enemies are one of the most common enemies you will come across in your adventures in The Forest. They’re not your biggest problem, but can kill you if you aren’t careful. They aren’t covered in blood, they have clean skin and typically wear war paint. They are easy to pick out from other types of cannibals. These cannibals don’t have a particularly special attack strategy, but they have an attack you can use to your advantage. Sometimes, a normal cannibal will attempt to lunge themselves at you to attack. When they do this make an attempt to maneuver yourself around them, and they will miss. Once you have done this, they will typically stand still for about 2 seconds. Take a quick slash at their back in this short amount of time for some good damage! Starving Cannibals Starving cannibals are easily distinguishable from the other enemies in the game. They are covered in blood, are skinny, and have no weapons or clothing. They act more aggressive towards you, but are also weaker and more afraid of you. The attack strategy of these cannibals are similar to that of the normal cannibals. However they have less health, and less strength to damage you. But don’t underestimate these cannibals, for when they are large in numbers they can be very challenging to defeat. Cannibal Leaders Cannibal Leaders, the highest of strength and importance amongst the normal cannibals. Cannibal leaders sometimes lead patrol parties in search of you and wear various decorations to show their importance. They’re sometimes equipped with a weapon and are strong, so look out. They are possibly the most noticeable of the cannibals because of the dismembered limbs they wear for decoration. As you can see, they are different from their fellow cannibals.During the night if looking for you, they will be equipped with a flashlight. This means you will need to surprise attack them or try to lure them into one of your traps to kill them. Or, you can take your chances of just charging at them and taking them by surprise. Mutant Babies These little creeps are a very new addition to the game. They crawl around on the ground of mutant caves, and when you approach the jump at you and do a bit of damage. They’re not a big problem, simply look downwards and attack to kill them. One hit, one kill. Mutants There are tw o main kinds of mutants, and they don’t have official names. But, they’re both not too pretty. Don’t have much personal experience with these enemies, but I have some information for you still. The enemy that appears to be a male travels outside of caves and inside of them. However the female enemy does as well. The female enemies typically appear nearby mutant babies. The female enemy charges at the player and raises it’s front legs to scratch the player. I typically kill these enemies with a bow, but circling the enemy and attacking is effective as well. They are stronger than most, and kill within 1-3 hits without armor. I’d say set them aflame or shoot them since it’s so risky to get within arm’s reach of them. Conclusion Well, I hope you learned a thing or two about combat! This guide was short and simple, and not very detailed. However that’s what I intended since it was my first guide. I may make other The Forest guides later, so if you found this kind of simplified guide helpful
